Big Hand for the Joker... Joe Grech set off a pretty large pot when he re-raised on the button to 1,200 after an early position raise from Hugh Kirton and a subsequent flat call from Glen Whitehead. Both of them called the Joker (who had an impressive 34,000 or so at the time) and they saw a flop:
Check to Grech, who bet 1,200 again. Hugh then re-raised all in, and must have been disappointed when not just Grech, but Whitehead too got all their chips in the middle. Joe Grech covered both of them easily, and showed
. But Glen Whitehead had
- both were therefore ahead of Kirton's
.
Turn: a club - giving the Tens another few outs
River:
- taking all hope away, even if that hadn't been the last card to come.
So treble up for Whitehead, knock back to 24,000 for the Joker, knock out for Hugh Kirton (pictured).

Someone a while ago asked if the big red hoody in the background of one of the pictures was
Jerome
Bradpiece
. The answer is, no - Jerome is currently hoodyless and fluctuating in chips dramatically. Saw him double up with
... apparently he re-raised a preflop raise of 625 to 1,675. He was called, and saw a 6-high flop. His opponent bet out 2k - Jerome just called. The board paired the Six on the turn and Jerome now pushed all-in over the top of the next bet of 2k. The extra 4.5k made its way in and he was shown
which stayed behind on the river.
But just now news has travelled up to the press room of another big confrontation which has sent him near the felt again... more soon.

OOPS! Got my angles a bit wrong there. All I can say is that you are very lucky to have the sharp-eyed, swift witted Jen poised and ready or you'd be left with my moronic ramblings and comical feline misreads all day...
Moving swiftly onwards, Rick's stack was decimated as I came over to check on his table. He related the hand to me. He had A9h and the flop came Q hi with two hearts. Rick played his draw very aggressively but was unable to get Kings to fold and unable to hit his draw either and a 30k ish pot went the wrong way. He's down to dust but won a few chips after raising to 600 utg and receiving a call from the BB. The flop came ATT, BB bet out 1k and rick moved allin for another 1.4k to which the BB passed....
Pete Linton has circa 15k and Simon Nowab has been busily beavering away successfully and is up to 23k.
Paul Jackson has just busted out, no doubt due to some "flair play" on his opponent's behalf. The players are about to break for an hour to gather their thoughts and relate their tales of glory and woe. We'll be back soon,,,

One Hour Dinner Break has Just Begun...
Before heading towards food somewhere that isn't here (players in these events now seem to be served at the table, complete with wine and then get an hour break afterwards, for some reason) here's a list of a few selected players counted before the full count comes in (it will probably be here at the end of the break)...
Alan Smurfit -- 8,050
Joe Grech -- 23,500

John Kabbaj -- 32,000
Rick Trigg -- 3,450
Jerome Bradpiece -- 3,600
Nick Hicks -- 27,000
Julian Thew -- 18,000
Chris Mitchell -- 3,275
Rob Taylor -- 11,100
Simon Nowab -- 26,500
Paul Parker -- 5,400
Tariq Arees -- OUT (or disappeared)
Andy Donnelly -- 4,950
Martin Cavanagh -- OUT
Michael Trimby -- 21,400
George Hepburn 'slim99slim' -- 17,300 (League winner - so here's where your percentages are, blonde players - he's holding up well....)

Michael Artemis, who went through a brief patch of being chip leader, is now out. On the way to the top, he busted Danielle Allen, whose patience wasn't rewarded too well as Artemis called her large preflop raise with what turned out to be T-9 (she held
). The flop came Nine-high, and that's when most of the money went in, with Danielle promptly busting as a second Nine came as their cards were on their backs. Quickly over 30k, Artemis continued to play fast and loose, eventually, on the way back down, doubling two players up, one who held Aces and whose overbet was called promptly. A brief typhoon-like redistribution of chips, and Artemis is on the rail and his table's anxiety levels have probably come back to normal.

Some chip counts which might be out of date now as our internet has been off for a while due to Content Control Issues (is there a day that goes by which does not see Vodafone inconvenience someone, somewhere?).
Richard Herbert -- 14,750
Paul Parker -- 16,600
Simon Nowab -- 37,000
Sid Harris -- 19,350
Rick Trigg -- 11,000
Julian Thew -- 19,000
Amy Trodd -- 14,250
Denis O'Mahoney -- 37,000
Danny Palmer -- 22,000
Just now James Sudworth got it all in preflop with
against Kim Callow's
with the usual result - elimination. He was down to under 7k and after raising 2k preflop, found himself committed when Callow threebet him all in.
A harsher sort of situation occurred on Table Nowab, where Simon appears to have consistently gained chips through the day until the high point of nearly 40k he's hit now. He raised preflop with just Stephen Mills interested, and then bet 2k on the
flop. Mills gave it what Nowab described as, "The full needle," before moving in for a further 5,650. Call from Nowab.
Simon showed:
Stephen showed:
Turn:
River:
and with the regulation amount of swearing, Mills headed out to 'The Terrace' (cold outdoor pen for smokers) followed by Nowab who was having quite an amiable conversation with him in spite of the busting.

Quick Quick Whilst I have breached the restrictions preventing us posting here are some quick stories , counts and quotes from the players. Enjoy!
Simon Nowab is doing welll on 20k+.
Paul Parker on his table tells me "He pinched all those chips!"
Paul's in better spirits now and is back to his usual chatty self again..."Doing much better than I was before...up to 13k now!" before he breaks off to wangle some free wine out of the nearby valet. "We didn't get any at dinner, honestly" says Paul and his chirpy enthusiasm seems to have done the trick as a delivery of wine is promised...
..."OOhhh, bring us some cheesecake too" chimes in Simon, whose chip accumulation is obviously getting him hungry.
Rick Trigg is battling on with his shortstack and appears to be on roughly 6 or 7k now. Redbull pulls me aside "Had a bit of an accident" he tells me as he points to his depleted stack which is still around the 17k or so zone. "This gentleman outdrew me" he says placidly pointing to one of his neighbours. It's nice to see players behaving well even after a bad beat...
------------------
Red Bull and ActionMan have had their first significant face off. Rick's short stack meant that when the two found AK and QQ, the chips were destined to fly into the middle.
"Once I saw it was a flip I knew I was going to lose it the way I'm running!" said Redbull and his ominous premonition proved to be accurate as a K on the river sealed a much needed double up for Rick who is now back to 10 or 11k whilst Redbull's stack has been torn apart bit by bit by bad beats and lost flips and he now sits on 8k or so after his promising start...
Amy Trodd is now down to 6 or 7k or so.
She was seen betting 2600 on a 2 2 3 J J river only to receive a call from AA and quickly muck her cards...

Ergun Macit takes on
Lucy
Rokach
... it can't be a great seat with the two hefty stacks of Rokach and Kabbaj on his left, but he's not worryingly near the felt yet, and looks pretty relaxed. Just now he bet out 4k on the river with the board standing:
. The pot wasn't particularly large, and I gather there had been some preceding checking.
Lucy
Rokach
now takes the 4k off the top of one of the chip towers (it's a barely noticeable removal) and plays with it while considering her opponent for a while. Eventually she decides to pass, and is rewarded with her opponent showing the
for a big set...
____________________________________________________________
Here pictured is a happy Paul Parker, after finally getting the attention of the wine steward guy for his benefit and that of his neighbours. He's brought that peculiar magnetic set of twigs which are so compulsive to play with and provide a welcome relief for unstoppable chip twiddlers. If you don't know what I'm talking about, imagine plastic twiglets which attach at the ends via strong magnets, which allow very satisfying linking of the twiglets and then breaking into smaller branches. It's multicoloured as well, like Paul Parker's regular outfits.

Sad to say the genial Paul Parker is out. Never managing to get a good stack going all day, he became crippled holding T9 on a T92 flop, only to find his opponent with pocket
leaving him in dire need of a 4 outer which never materialised.
Down to the felt he shoved his last few chips in with J9 and was rewarded by a call from KK. Never fear a J x J flop made him a comfortable favourite but a K on the river was the final nail in his coffin and Paul, his spangly waistcoat, chirpy banter and magnetic twiglets are OUT.

didn't notice a chip count for the Twiggster
Er... that's because he is no more (in the tournament) - It was Flushy, playing in a Chinese game near the people actually still in the tournament who let me know this nugget of information. "Trigg's in the cash game,
Paul
Parker
's in the cash game - there goes my interest."

And in answer to a long-ago query (we try to get to your questions here on blonde, if there's time in between making instant coffee and stealing items from the player bufffet) - the spectacular hoody belongs to Al Boyle, according to our seating list. He wins a double prize today, that of least expected item of clothing in a poker room combined with getting the hood element of it past the MI6-trained staff near the entrance to the Vic. He's got 6,275 in chips currently, but I hope he makes Day Two.

At 200 400 with a 50 ante, this level is having its fair share of casualties as expected...
But it's working out nicely for Blonde's redbull who is building his stack very ncicely and looked to have roughly 30k when i joined his table.
He was also involved in another pot...on a K 5 5 flop his opponent bet the flop after Redbull checked which he called.
a 2 came on the turn and Redbull check called his opponent's bet again.
A 7 river was an effective blank and the hand went check check with Redbull's KQ well in front of his opponent's A8. Another nice chunk added to his stack which is now 35k+, Redbull is starting to develop into a threat...
There are currently 63 players remaining and the next level 300 600 -75 is just about to begin.
Let the blind pinching commence!
