On football talent....Maradonna for me

As fantastic players and great ambassadors for the game:

Pele - 1
Beckenbauer/Cruyff - 2
Platini - 3

Zidane in 2nd bracket but obv drops in the ambassador dept.

No mentions of Di Stephano or Pushkas?

Unfortunately never seen them.

I watched a prog last week on the different paths taken by Pele and Garrincha (sp?)

Whilst Pele played the footie and then led a bit of a stylish lifestyle and became the big media star, Garrincha preferred to go back to the beach and his mates and have a good drink and a smoke. Yet playing wise their careers where quite similar. And all this with gammy legs!!

From the footage shown throughout the prog, Garrincha looked every bit as good, again I didn't see much of him.

Di Stephano won:

1 World Club Cup
15 National Championships
5 European Cups
1 European Cup Winners' Cup
1 South American Championship
1 Domestic cup
2 International club competition champions
2 European Footballer awards
1 All-time European Footballer award
6 League top scorer awards
5 National Athlete of the Year awards
2 International club-competition scorer awards

That alone is worth consideration - the fact that he was the main man when Real won 5 European Cups is a big sign he's got to be up there.

I get what you mean though - I've only seen film of a few of his games - including the 7-3 final at hampden.

Pele can still get it up though.  Although he does have tablets for that, as part of his advertising deal.  Maradona gets his drugs elsewhere.

As to who's the best, impossible to say really.  On another forum I'm on there's a heated debate about Kobe Bryant being as good as Michael Jordan at basketball.  I'd always side on the Jordan camp, but that's because he was the player I grew up watching when I played.  The same is often the case.  I remember Maradona in his pomp.  Pele was before my time, but my Dad and others from the previous generation have told me about how great he was (and of course I've seen the videos).  Younger people might argue in favour of Zidane - as he's the only one they've really seen much of.
