I'm no fan of Leeds but I wish Gary Mac all the best.  Really nice guy.

Are there any football fans who don't like him?  Must be one of the nicest fellas in the game.  Great player too.  Not sure how great a manager he is, but the players will certainly respect him.

I don't think Everton fans were too keen on him after he pinched 15 yards to score the winning free kick in the last minute of the derby!

That one?

It was genius.  He'd taken one 10 minutes earlier, and put it towards the far post and Sami Hyypia.  With that one, he again pointed to Sami to get to the far post.

That goal made Liverpool's season that year.

I mean within sight of it!!

Alan Hansen would have had a field day with that, what the hell the defence was holding a line on the penalty spot - caused all the confusion.

Its a cracking appointment for Leeds. He did a great job with Coventry before having to leave.  I live and work in Leeds now and don't know anyone who is dissapointed to see Wise leave.

My Dad's a Leeds fan (has been since he was 7 - that's over 70 years!), and he's delighted.

He was excellent at Leeds (Gary Mac that is, not my old man!), and when he came to Liverpool it was in the twilight of his career, but his class was evident.  He also made a massive impression on Gerrard.  Apparently he is one of the biggest influences on Gerrard and the way he has decided to conduct himself and live as a professional footballer.

Was it my imagination or did Kevin Keegan not seem exactly thrilled by the news that Wise is joining him ?

Heard him on the radio this morning, and this is from the BBC site.  He didn't sound as though he was too happy with it at all, and it certainly didn't sound as though he knew Wise would be brought in.

Quote
Wise has been brought in to assist the board on football matters, and Keegan has moved to dispel any confusion over the hierarchical structure of the club.

He said: "I am all for the changes and I approve of them. They want someone on the board who understands football, and Dennis understands football very well.

"It will work very well. Dennis reports to me - the chain is established."

Magpies chairman Chris Mort has stressed that Wise, 41, will have no day-to-day involvement with the playing squad, but will concentrate on areas such as player recruitment and the development of the academy.

And Keegan - who saw Newcastle lose 3-0 at Arsenal in the Premier League on Tuesday, a repeat of the sides' FA Cup result three days earlier - believes the policy can pay dividends.

He said: "The club has become slightly fragmented. From my point of view, it's a positive thing - provided I get all the help I need.

"I know what Dennis is going to do, and the idea in principle is good - to look for new players, to bring youngsters through and do things which our academy isn't doing so much at the moment."

Keegan also revealed he was involved in the appointment after speaking to owner Mike Ashley before he returned as manager.

"I knew about it. It's not a surprise to me, it might be to other people," Keegan told BBC Radio 5 live.

"Two or three names were given to me when I first sat down and talked about the job with the owner. One of them was Dennis.

"I know Dennis. I know he's intelligent. I know his job here is to help me. He's on my side.

"How can any manager be against someone who is going to come to the club to try to bring in talent?

"It's right for this football club. A lot of people outside might be shocked about it. I think in the long term it's the right decision. It's something that needs to be done."

Haven't seen him speaking about it but I wouldnt really try to shape the quotes from the BBC into anything too negative. He was aware of the Chairman's plans and took the job on in that knowledge. Seems like some press are still looking for further stories. Only time really really tell what its all about and how it'll work out - the main thing is that Wise won't be dealing with the coaching/managing.

I saw him interviewed on Sky after the game last night when Wise's appointment came up in the conversation.

It was Keegan's apparent lack of his usual enthusiasm which got me thinking that all might not be rosy....
