STATUEWATCH – these are the players who despite being sat in the somewhat darker area of the tournament room don’t need to be hassled by flash photography to get their countenances fairly non-blurry. I personally have an aversion to taking flash pictures while players still have to make decisions in a hand as it’s probably not the best aid to concentration.
In the traditional manner, first the runner-up: Gino Alacqua. This Italian was definitely animated on the final table of the EPT Prague, but it looks like the buzz of the Grand Final has yet to get him to move more than the minimum amount to play the game (namely, pick up chips, move them over line, restack or shrug off dependent on outcome of hand).
The winner has to be this man – Barry Greenstein. As unreadable as hieroglyphics pre-Rosetta Stone, makes as many sudden movements as a anaesthetised sloth.

And Dana, I'm noticing that everytime you type Trond's name, you put smiley faces next to it which now leads me to believe that you might have been rooting for him to win that Master Classics in Amsterdam in November. Is this true??? lol
TR23
Nope, I'm entirely impartial. Heads up was good for me because I got to look at Trond for the same amount of time whether he came first or second...
Ooooh I'm going to do it again -

Well then Dana, since you're so impartial, I'm going to expect those same smiley faces after Michael's name tomorrow!!!
Enjoy the rest of the night.

The gent on the right of the photo is down to the felt after running into the Aces of the gent on the left. He was giggling as I left the table...

He wasn't on the player list we received today, so I can only assume that he'll be gracing us with his presence tomorrow, as will Michael Martin.

Thanks for finding my friend Nadir Jorephani earlier and taking a snap of him (he did look very tired). I dont suppose on one of your trips around the room you could keep an eye out for him again please. Just wondering if hes gonna survive day one. Thanks loads.

The Last Five Hands of the Night have been announced - and the press gently herded from the press area. Sorry - any further updating will be stories saved up (mainly by me due to the horror of my internet connection today) and the final chip counts if and when we receive them today....

Dana isn't happy that I've been elevated into that position, but I'm willing to sacrifice her happiness for that prestigious status.

Mr Bart Wetstein is OUT, with the maximum of swearing, followed by the maximum of standing at the table looking shellshocked while Mateyboy rakes in his chips.
The flop was A-J-5 and I didn't see the betting but Mr Wetstein was all in for a lot (18k on top of a chunky pot of some sort) and the gentleman in the brown stripey affair was a-dwelling. "Do you have a set?" asked he. "Aces?" He continues to dwell... and then calls! He has
. Mr Wetstein bangs the table and the swearing commences - he is holding
. No King on the turn or river, and the standing around looking lost and shocked begins...
