BARCELOSER

Spurs tonight pulled off one of the biggest cup upsets in years by beating a Barelona side full of internationals.
Manager Kevin Shepherd sent out a team which consisted of reserves and youth team players to pull off an unlikely victory at the Nou Camp, Shepherd was roundly criticised before the game for his team selection, and in a pre match press conference seemed agitated when pushed on his team selection, saying "We have had a poor start to our league campaign, and after such a tough start we finally got a result at the weekend that our play had deserved, I am resting several members of the first team, and I am confident in the ability of this team to perform with pride and hunger against Barca"

Boy was that confidence backed up on the pitch !!, Heroes to a man, and despite playing with 5 at the back and a defensive midfield, Spurs played to their strengths and when the half time whistle blew with the score at 0-0, shepherd waved to the cheering spurs fans and left for the interval with a broad smile on his face.

That smile got even broader when on 56 minutes,  Kyle LAFFERTY beat the offside trap and slid ihis shot under the advancing keeper!
Could Spurs hold on ...

Well they did for 20 minutes, after 76 minutes Souza ROBINHO levelled the scores and the home fans sensed that the game was theirs for the taking. But Spurs held firm and were looking like they could win it, and on 85 minutes they nearly did when Young-pyo LEE burst through the rearguard, not believing his luck, but a poor first touch lets him down!

The final whistle brought the penalty shootout and ultimately Victory for Spurs, Robinson was the hero with 2 stunning saves and Spurs go marching on to the next round.

Shepherd was understandably delighted after the game, telling me "I sent the team out before the game with instructions on keeping it tight and frustrating them, they were told that this was their chance to make a statement to me, the fans and everyone at the club, I told them not to come off that pitch having any regrets ... I dont think any of them did !! " He went on to say, "A few of the first team regulars will have seen that game tonight and be wondering if they will be playing against Blackburn at Ewood at the weekend, well we will have to see, I am not one for egos and reputations, its performances that count, and tonight we have seen a performance worthy of the famous white shirts of Tottenham Hotspurs. I am a very proud man tonight and I will be smiling until we next kick off a football match"

Spurs are a team with confidence in abundance after their last 2 games and Shepherd wants that to continue ... I wouldnt bet against it.

Some teams get byes.

And some Catalan teams get other, less desirable, byes.

It has been reported in the Blackpool Evening news that a number of Arsenal players were involved in a disturbance outside a local night club.

Reports say that a number of the squad tried to enter the club to celebrate the cup victory over the 'Tangarines'. A witness said 'Theo Walcott was refused entry for not providing proof of age,and Emmanuel Adebayor was told he would only be allowed in if he removed his ridiculous cap'
The witness went on to say 'The Arsenal players began to raise their voices, and things started to turn ugly, this was when Emmanuel Eboue stepped in to try and calm the situation down, within seconds punches were being thrown and Adebayor's cap was knocked to the floor'.

The Police were called but no arrests were made.

When questioned Arsenal boss Martin Jarvis said 'i did not see it'.

Spurs manager talks tough

Tottenham manger Kevin Shepherd today spoke straight from the heart ahead of 2 crunch games for him personally, in a rare moment of complete honesty Shepherd said "After the magnificent victory over Barcelona at the Nou Camp, we are back to earth with 2 of the most important games of the season to me as a manager, Tonight we face Bastard Rovers, and although I am a lifelong Spurs fan, I spent many happy years following Burnley up and down the country, my pinnacle of support being a round trip from Burnley to swindon for a night game ... it was 0-0 and not a shot on goal in 90 minutes ... i will never forget that night. It will please me immensely to beat the inbreds  from the cesspit of Lancashire and I will be reminding the boys of that when they go onto the pitch tonight   I will also recount my fav chant to the filth

I went to an ale house i used to frequent
I met Scotty2Hatty his money was spent
he asked me to play
I answered him Nay
I said rubbish like yours i could beay anyday

AND ITS NO NAY NEVER  .... NO NAY NEVER NO MORE ... TIL WE PLAY BASTARD ROVERS... NO NEVER NO MORE.

After tonights game, we start preparations for our home game against the @rse at the weekend, this is a must not lose game for us, our supporters and myself are of one voice on that. we have to fight tooth and nail and make sure we are tactically and mentally prepared for that. It is a tough couple of fixtures ahead, but with confidence high and the fact that we are starting to get what we deserve from results, I am a confident man ahead of tonights game"

Shepherd left the press conference singing No nay never ...

The mighty Arse tonight...still no clue as to the tactics I shall employ but Spurs might find a couple of Arsenal players will be unfit to play over the weekend.

Spurs win one tawdry league game* and think they are world beaters. Blackburn Rovers send out a near full-strength side and expect to hand out a heavy defeat to a Spurs side lacking in any kind of leadership. Russian star Pavlyuchenko is expected to lead the line and build on his impressive debut for Rovers. Fortress Ewood awaits you Kev!

Apologies to Scotty for recalling Lucas but I'm in dire straits.

When Mascherano is fit he'll be yours again if you want him.
