Here's a story of 4,800 people with the same idea.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/handball/6753879.stm

wtf

"Tall people - at least 5ft 11in (women) and 6ft 3in (men) - were invited to put themselves forward to see if they could be turned into Olympic-standard rowers, volleyballers or handballers in time for 2012."

Nobody invited me.   I'll sue them and demand my gold medal.

and why is there no canoeing in the pub?

Good question ... shall we team up and go on dragons den to get funding for it ??

No entry fee and added value, we will make the landlords pay us to hold the event as all those thirsty canoeists will boost their takings.

It was all going so well until Duncan Bannatyne spotted a flaw.

Oi - that would be an event I'd have a chance at.

Not proper gold ones, besides, it's always nice to be given it from someone else.

I don't think you need to focus on a minority sport.  With some plimsoles and whatever they've got in the lost property bin at your nearest running track you've got a decent shot at competing in the 100m if you can manage the distance without tearing a hamstring or bursting into tears for no apparent reason.
