Awesome performance. Looked a bit ominous when he was dropped in the first, but fantastic performance from then on. Has to be the best British boxer of all time (he's English did you know?) and there really aren't any fights out there for him now that will add to his legacy (but they might add to his bank balance), so he should retire at the top.
Deffo the greatest British boxer of all time, Lewis is the only fighter to come close. Eubank was close but lost too many, Naz could have been the greatest boxer of all time but he threw it away and believed his own hype. Calzaghe has entertained and dominated for years and generally been a good figure for the sport and british boxing for the last decade.
A lot of Eubanks losses came in his later years when he was already gone

True, and in fairness to him, some of his best performances came in defeat (he loss to Calzaghe was the best I ever saw him). He did also lose that killer instinct after the Watson tradegy.

Eubank lost to Collins twice, when Eubank was 'spooked' by Collins' hypnosis, but would he have beaten Collins at his peak? Possibly. He then lost to Calzaghe, again would he have beat Calzaghe at his peak? We simply don't know - Calzaghe wasn't at his peak then either. Then Eubank fought Carl Thompson twice at Cruiserweight - and Thompson was just too big and strong for him although Eubank did put up a great fight.
Eubank is one of Britain's best ever boxers - definitely. But I wouldn't say he was the best.

flair, style, charisma and technique Eubank pwned!!!!
all the fights you mention are the ones i'm on about in his later years where he was already gone

Yeah, Eubanks deffo would have beat Collins in his hayday, in fact, he could have beatne Collins in their fight, he had him hurt a few times but showboated whenever he did because he didnt want another Watson on his hands.

I think I'd agree about Eubank. Was very, very good when he had that killer instinct.
I think Calzaghe said that Eubank was his toughest fight ever a couple of years back. (I dont know if that would hold true today after Hopkins) And that was definately a past his best Eubank, but as Kin says Calzaghe got way better than that as well so very tough to call.

Joe was awesome, possibly his best performance given who he was in the ring with.
Personally i think Jones was far to old for this fight, if it was 4 years ago, jones would have won it.
I know ill get shot down for this, but Calzaghe is highly over rated in my opinion.

Absolutely no way is Calzaghe overrated. He threw more punches than double any other fighter has in a fight against RJJ.
He goes for 12 rounds solid. How many other boxers do that???
Especially at Super middleweight/light heavyweight!
Great fighter. I dont think he would have beaten RJJ in his prime, as RJJ in his prime was one of the greatest ever (top 10) Calzaghe will be an all time great, maybe top 20 ...

4 years ago Jones was losing to Tarver and Johnson. There's nothing to suggest that he'd have faired any better to Calzaghe 4 years ago than he did at the weekend.
Since 1997 Jones has only beaten a hand-full of fighters without the fight going to points. The ones he did beat with a stoppage were either ageing fighters or fighters that weren't exactly top world class (like Clinton Woods or Otis Grant).
You have to go back well over ten years to see Jones at his peak. At that time, Calzaghe had only had three fights that lasted more than two rounds! So they weren't going to fight then. Calzaghe beat Eubank in 1997, and he's been on the ascendency ever since. That coincides with Jones' decline, and I truly believe that if Calzaghe had fought Jones at any time after 1997 he would have won.

There should be plenty of torrents available for it. If you can get Setanta, they're showing lots of repeats of the fight this week as well.

Agree with all of this - but how's about a Rocky Balboaesque peak vs peak fight?

I have to agree that calzaghe is over rated! He has hand picked his fights against boxers past their prime! just because he has beaten a washed up Roy Jones and Hopkins doesnt mean he is a great! I was impressed when he fought Jeff Lacy but to be fair to Jeff he didnt turn up that night as he was an animal. So what if Calzaghe throws 1 million punches! they are all arm slaps anyway,

Who exactly should he have fought? That weren't hand picked, Jeff Lacy career has been ruined by 12 rounds in the ring with Calzaghe, Mikkel Kessler not in his prime or considered the 2nd best at super middleweight? Bernard Hopkins still can't fight, might want to have a word with Kelly Pavlik about that.
I seriously don't get this trolling of Calzaghe, every boxer he has fought has said he slaps in the prefight and then gone back on there words post fight.
