In New York, I knew people who made a living just being invited to parties and night clubs.  They weren't actors.  Just fun people who helped fill a room...and got paid for being there.   

do they also have "interesting" people paid to attend parties just to help clear the room at the end of the night?  

Yes.  They're called 'bouncers'.  

Knew that was coming sigh.............   

I thought it would be easier for club owners to employ an eccentric character who is skilled in clearing rooms  to appear at the end of the night and ask questions about sausages save having to throw people out

Is he one of those guys who get paid to go to parties such as Tracey's?

Is he paid to make the place look busy?  Like a party extra?

I sometimes get asked to sing karaoke at the end of the night after last orders - they don't pay me though.
