I took up boxing when I was 23, I trained hard for 6 months and was superbly fit whan I had my first fight, I was matched against a great hairy monster who broke my nose in the first 30 seconds and then proceeded to beat the bejeasus out of me for the next two rounds, although I did manage to block most of his punches with my face.

Before the start of the third and final round my corner man tried to get me to retire on the pretence that I had hurt my thumb, but I was young and foolish and insisted on carrying on.

the third round was just a blurred nightmare, then, suddenly everything seemed to be happening in slow motion, I could see this big sweaty face seemingly motionless in front of me and I hit it with a huge, desperate, last of my strength punch. I knew I had connected, it was like hitting a wall, then as I stood there, totaly spent, trying just to remain upright and struggling to get air into my screaming lungs, I saw his eyes roll upwards and watched in amazement as he toppled, pole like, to the canvas. My first thought was "if he gets up, Im gettin out of this ring" but he didn't and I was the winner by a knockout.

It was a very unfair result to what had been a great performance by him, I had a drink with him the next day, (lovely bloke) there wasnt a mark on him, I on the other hand had a nose like a pump handle, two huge fat lips and I couldnt see out of my eyes, and I was the winner?

I retired from boxing that day, but I still have a 100% record

Great picture Red, not so great Snoppy.......have you got your tongue pierced?

I never boxed myself but i have trained with boxers on and off for years (not like them, more casually!!) and the training regime and punishment they go thru is awesome.
Much respect.

i did that for years in the army but i prefered them on when running as running without boxers on ended up with a little rubbing after 10 miles or so
