ah..so every snotty comment you have made since the staking thing started, and that's just about every comment you made in reply to a post of mine in that period, was because I made a mistake by associating Venetia Williams with Best Mate (obv a mistake) and because I don't rate her as a trainer and you obviously do.
That explains everything, it doesn't mean you're a nasty little man at all...just that you have a little man-crush on Venetia (Fair enough) and I apologise for not thinking she's the beez knees.
And a horse can only be called great if his offspring is great?

I'll ignore the flaming that you obviously feel the need to defend yourself with when your foolish statements come home to roost and just answer your last attempt at a sarcastic question which is actually surprisingly quite valid.
I reckon that most people who have really studied racing would say that Northern Dancer was the greatest racehorse of all time if asked to name one horse.
This would be as much for his exploits at stud where he is considered in a class of his own as his bloodlines continue to flourish and produce champions several generations on, as for his record as a racehorse and winning the triple-crown in the USA.
There have been several triple-crown winners in the last fifty years but none has been anything remotely like as sucessful at stud and their names are all but forgotten although their bare racetrack statistics would suggest that there would not be much between them .

Northern Dancer, the one ranked nr43 on this list?

You can't judge horses by their progeny..George Washington was quite clearly a superb racehorse but never produced any offspring. That does not mean he wasn't a great racehorse..just that he wasn't a great Sire. The two things are not the same...not even close.

Seriously though .... Greatest footballer, cricketer, race horse ... its all subjective isn't it ?
Different training methods, more knowledge of diet supplements etc etc ... surely it is impossible to know for sure ?

Not for some people, for them it's a FACT!

This illustrates my point perfectly:
A horse rated #43 by wiki. would be considered the best of the modern era by many knowledgable people.

You must be very proud of yourself Kev.
There was no "feud" between boldie and myself before you started shit-stirring on boldie's staking thread with a flaming post directed at me around six months ago and which set a precedent for all future discussions.
