My demise last night illustrates the above criticisms to a tee.

2.15 am    .....     18 left, I have around average - chips 50k - and the blinds are 4000/8000 400 ante!!!!!!!!!

Guy raises to 17k, I look down at       and shove    ....      he dwells, then sighs and says, "you've got me," (but because of the silly phuqqin structure) then announces, "but I've gotta call   ...     I've got no choice".

His flipped       holds up and I'm out     .....       so much for the 'beautiful game' - two players 'deep' whose actions are governed by the size of the blinds whilst holding the average.

After also being told there'd only be a 'slight tweaking' of the Wednesday comp, I was quite alarmed to see a reversion to the pre-Xmas crap shoot       ....        I'll also have to give Wednesday a miss if this 20 minute turbo bollox persists - I come to play Poker not phuqqin Bingo!

If people are complaining about comps going on too long (evidence/source?) they can always vote with their feet    .....       why enter a Deepstack on a midweek night if you're worried about the finishing time?

It does also appear that if Ian isn't on duty  .,....    the 'easy option' will be taken at all times!

No-one has mentioned that since the new longer structures/schedule was bought in that attendances have been up   .....    so the punters are obviously happy with what's on offer!

Here are my suggestions for what it's worth...


Wednesday (10,000 chips)

25-50 30mins
50-100 30mins

BREAK

75-150 25mins
100-200 25mins
150-300 (25 ante) 25mins
200-400 (50) 25mins

BREAK

300-600 (75) 25mins
400-800 (100) 25mins
600-1200 (100) 25mins
800-1600 (200) 25mins

BREAK

1000-2000 (200) 20mins
1500-3000 (300) 20 mins
2000-4000 (400) 20 mins
3000-6000 (500) 20 mins, and so on.

Monday (3 x 3,000 chips), same structure

Also, print off the schedule each month A2 size and stick it up on the entrance to the poker room.
Print off structure sheets for every event and stick to them.

to many chips for the structure will still go on for hours and then because of the shortening of the clock at the business end would be a final table crapshoot.

30 min clock the whole way and remove the 75/150 level (a pointless level imo). 7500 starting chips and introduce antes at 300/600.

print structure sheets and decide a time for the final table to be reached (12.30am??), if it isnt reached by then  state that play will switch to 20 min levels until it is (only use if very high numbers present) then revert back to 30mins for the final.

Whats the point in me pushing the cardroom and persuading people to come if there is no consistency

I suspect they may tweak Saturdays excellant 8k  £45 deepstack now

The lovely Nina was back last night,perhaps they should have staff briefings before shifts commence?

With Nial returning from holiday tonight god only knows what changes they have in store

Wouldn't be surprised to see a pen and a book of 6 at every seat

- Wednesdays....at 20 minute clock all the way through its pretty much unplayable. On an estimate of 13 hands per level, circa one every ninety seconds, that gives you 60 odd hands before you have 10xbb assuming no progress...so in effect you have a re-shoving stack by level 3 and a pushing stack at level 4 unless in the first 60 hands you manage to make progress

Of course players should adapt to whatever structure they choose to play but 60 hands before there is no play seems grim to me

That's assuming you get 13 hands per level. To do so you've got to assume you don't get

- A multi-dimensional scream up on how this dealer never gives him any cards

- A China Mug scream up on some rule or other, and requests for new decks

- A Joe Hachem wannabe dwell up with the stone cold nuts for imaginary TV effect

- A post river Slowroll by Georgious Chemical Ali Micheal Michael Darvish Hamid for tilting opponents effect

- A USA "I bang the table so hard when I win a pot I cause aftershocks in Haiti" Dennis induced table tilt up

In practice one or more of the above is going to happen, making 13 hands per level and 60-65 by level 4 and blinds of 200-400 just a pipe dream 


The idea above seems good to me

- guarantee a 30 minute clock at least up to midnight. If need be you can announce a reduction to 20 minutes then if its a Wed night with 80+ runners

- Put 150-300 back in. The effect on the playability is huge

- Reduce the starting chips. 7000 is fine. With antes.


I know here you hit a problem. It can be summarised in my recent conversation with Coco Pops

......I accept that you don't want to be disenfranchising 91 punters, many of whom come because they think they are getting oodles of chips and a deepstack and haven't got as far as realising it's a daft comp...but I would have thought you'd have happier regulars, most of whom would love to play on Wednesdays, if you put something on they want to play


p.s I also know that the powers that be weren't happy that all the toruney punters were stuck in the comp to silly o clock and no cash table revenue was coming in


I think there is a happy medium though...its not 20 minute clock and no filler levels, and at the other end its not 30 minutes with all levels. Something in between please to give everyone something to moan at!
