Yeah it's correct but you're working out profit by taking buy ins off winnings then adding the buy ins back on again to the pay outs.
Just easier my way that's all.
The reason it's different is because you sold the shares at £500 then worked out profit based on buy ins of £504.
I haven't got a calculator on me but I'd guess that 38.5% of £4 is £1.54
