Time to worry again

Nasa reports today a 55 million ton Asteroid will miss us in November but will closer than the Moon.

Tin Helmet time

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/giant-asteroid-set-to-narrowly-miss-earth.html

A giant asteroid weighing 55 million tons is set to narrowly miss Earth later this year, according to Nasa. The huge rock, dubbed YU55, will pass within 201,700 miles of our planet in November. It will be closer to us than the moon, which is on average 238,855 miles away and will be visible through a small telescope.

If it crashes into earth the impact would be equivalent to 65,000 atomic bombs, while the crater would be six miles wide and 2,000 ft deep.

But what happens if it Hits the Moon

A crater 6 miles wide on the moon? Given the biggest visible crater on the moon is 100 miles wide, and there are many more bigger that are only partially visible, six miles is nothing.

An asteroid causing a piddling six mile crater isn't exactly going to cannon the moon into the earth or anything.

Scaremongering: must try harder.

Lets say for example something that size hit the middle of the atlantic, would it be gg earth or juts countrys which would be hit by a tsunami?  And would we feel a tremor here?

I think hitting the moon would make a much bigger hole than 6 miles , as the moon is made of cheese
