Not bad for someone who has never played a hand before in this variant.

Congratulations to Allen Bari, Winner of Event #4: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em ($874,116)!

Originally scheduled as a three-day event, Event #4: $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em at the 2011 World Series of Poker was stretched to four days. That doesn't mean a damn thing for Allen Bari though as he happily returned on the fourth day of play with a massive chip lead and rode it out to victory.

Bari walked in the final day topping the final four with over 90 of the 130 big blinds in play. Although things started off somewhat rough for him, he was able to battle through the obstacles presented and walk away with nearly $875,000 in first-place prize money. Not only that, Bari earned himself the most coveted prize in poker -- a WSOP gold bracelet!

After Nicholas Blumenthal fell in fourth place, Sean LeFort went out in second. Maria Ho started the day as the shortest stack in the room, but was able to battle her way to heads-up play versus Bari, albeit at a massive chip disadvantage. When the two got down to heads-up play, Bari held 85.5% of the chips in play. Ho had some work to do, but never seemed to get anything going. Bari kept constant pressure on her and her short stack before the final blow came.

On the final hand, Ho moved all in from the button and Bari called with pocket eights. Ho held {A-Spades}{4-Spades} and was looking for some help. The {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} board failed to give her the improvement she needed to stave elimination and it was all over. Bari was instantly met with congratulations from his friends, which included Brent Hanks, Derek Raymond, Dan O'Brien, Chris Klodnicki and the late-running-in Jason Mercier. All of them embraced Bari with smiles, hugs and plenty of congratulations.

Although Bari has talked in the past a bit about not playing much poker in the future, he did comment, "I was expecting one bracelet. Seriously, I thought that if I didn't win a bracelet it would be a joke." Well Allen, you got your bracelet and $874,116 in cash.

congratulations to Amir Lehavot, Winner of Event #7: $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold'em Championship ($573,456)

Day 3 of the $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold’em Championship began with 27 hopefuls looking to capture a coveted World Series of Poker bracelet and the $573,456 first-place prize. The eliminations came at a rapid pace, the field reducing itself from 27 to the final table in just five hours. After another five hours, it was Amir Lehavot who emerged victorious to capture the prize and his first WSOP bracelet.

Lehavot’s path to victory did not come easy as a number of notables stood in his way at the beginning of the day. Nenad Medic (25th- $20,129), Jennifer Tilly (21st- $20,129), Mike Matusow (20th- $20,129), Owen Crowe (15th- 32,183), Robert Mizrachi (12th- $40,890), and Toby Lewis (11th- $40,890) were just a few of the big names that were eliminated in the early stages of Day 3.

When the field was reduced to the final nine, the players relocated to the ESPN feature table:
Seat   Player   Chip Count
1   Amir Lehavot   1,268,000
2   Sam Stein   599,000
3   Jarred Solomon   1,427,000
4   Stephen Chidwick   772,000
5   Nicolas Levi   579,000
6   Michael Benvenuti   670,000
7   Eric Cloutier   457,000
8   Tommy Vinas   1,409,000
9   McLean Karr   290,000

The final table action was no less rapid than the preceding exploits. Michael Benvenuti was the first to go after his {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs} failed to improve against Stephen “Stevie444” Chidwick’s {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} on a board reading {J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}. A short time later, both McLean Karr and Eric Cloutier hit the rails in the eighth and seventh-place spots respectively. Nicolas Levi was the next out the door in sixth place after his {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} failed to hold against the {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} of Lehavot as the board ran out {A-Clubs}{5-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{4-Spades}.

It was during five-handed play that one of the more brutal hands of the day developed. It began when Jarred Solomon raised to 70,000 under the gun and Tommy Vinas decided to look him up from the button. Solomon led right out with a 75,000 bet on the {9-Spades}{Q-Spades}{7-Spades} flop, which Vinas raised to 275,000. Solomon thought for a moment before announcing, "Pot." The three-bet was for a whopping 735,000!

Vinas didn't take long before moving all in for a couple hundred thousand more and Solomon made the call.

Solomon: {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
Vinas: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}

It was a brutal set-over-set flop that saw Vinas on the bad end of things. "Spade, spade," Vinas pleaded as he looked to his rail in resignation. The {8-Hearts} turn ensured that there would be no chop. It was down to the river for Vinas, who needed the case seven to stay alive. The {8-Clubs} was close, but not quite what he needed. Vinas was eliminated in fifth place and will take home $150,453 for his efforts.

The next to go was Chidwick in fourth place followed out the door just a few hands later by Sam Stein in third place, leaving Lehavot (5,415,000) to do heads-up battle against Solomon (2,160,000). It was a back and forth affair as Solomon did his best to put himself back in contention; however, Lehavot proved too much to overcome. In the final hand, Solomon's {a-Hearts}{J-Spades} could not pull ahead of Lehavot's {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts} and he finished as our runner-up.
Final Table Payouts

Place   Player   Prize
1   Amir Lehavot   $573,456
2   Jarred Solomon   $354,460
3   Sam Stein   $264,651
4   Stephen Chidwick   $198,927
5   Tommy Vinas   $150,453
6   Nicolas Levi   $114,525
7   Eric Cloutier   $87,702
8   McLean Karr   $67,596
9   Michael Benvenuti   $52,406
Former $5,000-$10,000 Pot Limit Hold’em Champions

Year   Event   Player   Prize   Entrants
2005   Event #20 ($5,000)   Brian Wilson   $370,685   239
2006   Event #32 ($5,000)   Jason Lester   $550,764   378
2007   Event #13 ($5,000)   Allen Cunningham   $487,287   398
2008   Event #1 ($10,000)   Nenad Medic   $794,112   352
2009   Event #45 ($10,000)   John Kabbaj   $633,335   275
2010   Event #38 ($10,000)   Valdemar Kwaysser   $617,214   268
2011   Event #7 ($10,000)   Amir Lehavot   $573,456   249

Congratulations to Amir Lehavot on taking down the $10,000 Pot-Limit Hold’em Championship. Not a bad showing for the man who won $421,680 for a fourth-place finish back in March at the World Poker Tour’s L.A. Poker Classic

Event #8: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em
Day 1b completed

It was another exciting day here in the Pavillion. 2,062 players started day 1b with dreams of a WSOP bracelet and in a bit of deja vu from yesterday we were left with only 312 at the end of the night. They will join the 312 survivors of day 1a tomorrow afternoon meaning we will start day 2 with a total of 624 players

Total registration for the event was 4,178, which is 167 players less than the number of participants this event got last year.

After spending most of the day flying under our radar, Jon Turner is our current chip leader with 99,200. Yesterday's chip leader, Albert Kim, had only 74,675.

Some big stacks at the end of 1b included Jason Koon with 73,075 and Eugene Kim 57,225.

Other notable players still in the field include:

Phil Collins - 45,875
Annette Obrestad - 38,100
Gavin Griffin - 38,050
Layne Flack - 37,575
Kathy Liebert - 26,550

Only 423 of the 624 remaining players will make the money.

2011 World Series of Poker
Event #9: $1,500 2-7 Draw Lowball

Matt Perrins Wins Event #9: $1,500 2-7 Draw Lowball! ($102,105)

On Saturday afternoon two days ago, Matt Perrins sat down at 5pm and played his first ever hand of Deuce to Seven No Limit having watched roughly half an hour's worth of YouTube videos on the game. Two days later he has now been crowned a WSOP bracelet winner, beating a field of 275 to join his best friend Jake Cody as the second UK player to win a WSOP bracelet this year.

Perrins admitted after that he hadn't been initially sure of what he was doing in the early levels but gradually picked up the game and its similarities to Hold'em. He also said he knew that everyone else was much more experienced than him and he attempted to make it up by consistent aggression to build his stack. He also stated his intent to now play the $10,000 2-7 NL later on the series, something he said he would only have done if he cashed for $10,000 or more.

Buoyed on by another rail of around 20-30 of his friends, Perrins' chip lead never looked in doubt as he managed to whittle down veteran Chris Bjorin's stack to a small amount before finally finishing off the Swede to win the first prize of over $100,000

Congratulations to Matt Perrins, winner of Event #9 at his very first WSOP and look out tonight Las Vegas. The Brits will be out to celebrate this one!

Event #10: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em / Six Handed
Day 1 completed
Spinella Builds Massive Stack to Lead as Money Bubble Looms

Day 1 of Event #10: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em / Six Handed is in the books after another massive turnout of players came out to action at the Rio. Last year's field was a whopping 1,663 entrants, but this year destroyed that with 1,920 players registering for this event. A larger field size means more money and this year the winner of this event will take home a whopping $544,388 along with the coveted World Series of Poker gold bracelet.

When play began at noon, players were spread out across tables all over the Rio Convention Center. There were tables in all sections of the Rio Pavilion, taking over both the cash game and satellite sections for the time being. The Amazon Room also had a section that contained a couple hundred players in this event. Needless to say, it was jam packed with poker from wall to wall as far as the eye could see.

Some of the notables we were able to spot throughout the day included Angel Guillen, Liv Boeree, Vanessa Selbst, David Williams, Lex Veldhuis and Richard Toth -- all of Team PokerStars Pro. Unfortunately for the squad, that crew of players didn't make it too far in this event and hit the rail. John Racener, Shawn Buchanan, Andy Black, Lauren Kling, Faraz Jaka, Chino Rheem, Galen Hall, Greg Raymer, Tom Dwan, Antonio Esfandiari and Andrew Lichtenberger were some of the pros who joined them on the rail.

Top Chip Counts
1    Anthony Spinella    223,000
2    Ryan Welch    156,300
3    Bryan Colin    128,100
4    Anders Taylor    117,000
5    Zachary Clark    105,100
6    Amit Makhija    103,800
7    Kovalchuck Oleksii    92,100
8    Alex Wice    87,200
9    Tom Macey    85,500
10    Dennis Benes    80,400

Sida Yuen is the only Brit I can see listed in the counts

Event #11: $10,000 Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better Championship
Day 1 completed
Chasing Eric Buchman

If not for the endless string of split pots, this $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo Championship might be our very favorite event of the year to cover. Nowadays, only the big-buyin events feature intimate, highly skilled fields from top to near-bottom like this one.

Today's field was a strong one with 202 players -- nearly all of them faces you'd be familiar with -- turning up to the Rio with the buyin burning a hole in their pockets. Many of them torched through stacks in the early event in order to give this evening show their full attention. Like Tom Dwan, for example, who busted the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event just a few minutes before registration closed for this Championship. Dwan had a short and productive four levels over here on our side of the room, working his 30,000-chip stack to 61,000 by night's end.

Also in the mix were the likes of John Racener, Will Failla, Justin Smith, Ted Forrest, and Michael Mizrachi, but they were all cursed with a very short day and run out of the room within the first few levels. Also falling by the wayside was Francesco Barbero, one of the still-growing 2011 class of bracelet winners. Barbaro could easily justify the investment after taking down this event's little brother, the $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo event of a few days ago. He had a miserable day, though, and his last big bet went into his final pot during the closing level of the night.

Barbaro wasn't the only 2011 bracelet winner in the room, either. Allen Bari won Event #4 yesterday, and Eugene Katchalov took down Event #5, too; both men survived the day with chips to spare. Bari, in particular, had a good day, finishing up with 70,700 tucked safely inside his chip bag for the overnight soak. Also in the mix was Event #6's champion, Harrison Wilder who finished the day even better with 75,300 chips.

Joining those survivors in tomorrow's Day 2 will be a significant crowd of familiar faces. Erik Seidel, Dwan, John Juanda, Mike Matusow, Daniel Negreanu, Todd Brunson, Barry Greenstein and a pair of Deebs (Shaun and Freddy) will headline the restart at 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday. That's today, if you're scoring at home. A few of those guys have chips with which to do some damage, too. Negreanu was one of the last to register, but he managed to stack up 51,800 by the time the clock wound down, and Freddy Deeb is very near the top with 82,800 chips.

From the looks of it, though, everyone's chasing Eric Buchman right now. He had a quiet day as far as table talk went, electing instead to let his chips do the talking. Buchman had a taller stack every time we walked past his table, and his finishing count of 105,500 will set the pace for Day 2.

Top Chip Counts
1    Eric Buchman    105,500
2    Freddy Deeb    82,800
3    Alessio Isaia    77,000
4    Harrison Wilder    75,300
5    Allen Bari    70,700
6    Eugene Katchalov    64,000
7    Tom Dwan    61,000
8    Shaun Deeb    57,000
9    John Hennigan    55,000
10    Todd Brunson    55,000
