The top of Castlelaw.

Have a bit of history with this wee bothy. It's a basic breeze block "sentry box." The pole has a Red flag on it which is raised whenever the Army are live firing on the ranges at the bottom of the other side of the hill. There are also 2 red lights atop the pole which are switched on when night time firing is happening.

I spent many lonely hours stuck up there as during live firing a sentry is posted at the top in case walkers stray a bit too close. The biggest problem was that most range days were cold, wet and windy and atop the highest hill in that area the effects were doubled.

Had my lunch here, nice strong and sweet brew with a slice of my own-made Toffee cake.

View of the next stage down to Glencorse Reservoir and on to Turnhouse Hill. There is actually a Chapel that is now submerged beneath the reservoir

On this trip I set off carrying a lighter pack as the forecast for later wasn't too good and I could get off the hills quicker if needs be.

I decided to start at Bonaly and take the low route to Glencorse reservoir and then return on the route I did last week - Castlelaw - Allermuir and home.

About a 2 mile walk to the start point at Bonaly

This is part of the Pentland Path. There are literally hundreds of paths crossing the Pentland ranges with some great walks.

The route from Bonaly Reservoir to Glencorse is fairly flat so decided to run for the best part of the run, obviously not an option if I had been carrying the larger pack
