I think the main thing is getting close, and the best way to do that is to be quiet.

Every time I came in to contact with other humans today, they were either screaming at their kids or calling their dogs name loudly over and over again. Meanwhile, the dog is 10ft away taking absolutely no notice.

It's a Panasonic Lumix. The updated version of the one I've been using all the time, which is useful because all the menus are the same as the ones I'm familiar with which means I'm not having to waste time wondering how to change the settings.

How close are you getting to the subjects? It seems pretty close, which is a huge tribute to your skills in that respect as well.
