Bit silly for the two biggest tours to go up against each other though

Only from the perspective of the players, Geo.

Supermarkets do it all the time with predatory pricing & offers, they want to crush the opposition, steal their market, & their customers/Clients. This would be no different.

I hear what you're saying but there seems little point.  Despite the GUKPT's extra value, soft sats and cheaper fees,  stars have been crushing anyway. Feels a bit like kicking a man when he is down.  I hope they continue but fear the worst.

Would be good if they could do a final two fingers and get a bigger field.

Edinburgh in January is an odd one!
At the Balmoral Hotel too, never been there but I heard there is practically no free parking, £25 for 24 hours parking nearby.  Disaster for anyone not staying close to the place.

Oh my, wow!

It's a truly wonderful Hotel, but I cannot think of a less likely more surprising place to hold a Poker Tourney.

It's a pukka, genuine, 5 Star luxury Hotel, one of the Rocco Forte jobs. As Mr Fett notes, no car parking at all that I am aware of, you'd need to park in the Railway Station Car Park, probably cost £20 per day or more. There are a few hotels nearby, but nothing "sensibly priced".

It is smack in the centre of the City, bounded by Princes Street on one side, & Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station on the other side, in fact, technically, it is part of the Station, which is the 2nd largest in the UK.  Back in the day, it was known as the "North British Hotel", owned by the railway. You get off the train, & walk up some 500 bloody steps directly into the Hotel.

I honestly cannot imagine anyone would be allowed in the place wearing hoodies & the like & I do mean that - it's well posh. To give you a flavour of how posh, they have afternoon tea in the Lounge every day, & a resident harpist serenades you. Which is nice, but hardly what Mr Cody, Mr Dempsey, Trigg  & Co are going to relish.....

Lots of nice eateries locally, though.

The entrance is manned 24/7 by Commissionaires, dressed beautifully in greatcoats, & kilts.

A standard room, off-season, would be, I guess, around £200, with Suites - most of the Hotel is suites - starting, off-season, at £500 per night. Nice suites, mind.

In the main photo, the big thing is the Hotel, with Princes Street to the left, Railway Station to the right.

Geo the Sarge may know some more cost-effective local Hotels, I'll word hm.

Alex Goulder would feel very much at home there, if you get my drift.

I've stayed in loads of B+B's in Edinburgh on rugby weekends up there, loads of reasonably priced places to be had with parking too.

For the record, I would be mortified if the GUKPT died, I think it's a wonderful thing, and part of the current Live Poker "furniture".

I also think that 'Stars are a clinically efficient machine, & business is business.

I can't imagine that Stars particularly want to clash with GUKPT, but they probably don't care much either as they know they're going to get virtually the same numbers whether they clash or not. The UKIPT is hardly part of their core business (they lose money on it, don't they?) and probably a case of needs-must, schedule wise for their venue and for the UKIPT staff.

Yes, most probably.

UKIPT Nottingham £700, £1,000,000 gtd clashed with GUKPT Stockton £500, zero gtd.

One of them got 1600+ runners, the other around 50...

Blackpool gukpt is slightly different tho David. It's always popular and I would think has the best chance of all the legs V stars. No other ukipt leg gets anywhere near Dtd obv

Emailed them. They're cancelling Swansea and replacing it with another location to be announced. Still clashes with gukpt blackpool though

Reliable source tells me Bristol Gala although contract not yet signed. They will struggle for floor space but have an additional room (that needs signing off by fire safety officer) - or they will probs clear half of the pitt floor.

Any conference rooms for them to repeat the feat of Brighton two seasons back? that was a popular stop...

platinum lace was alright... Tongue

Would this is the first time that stars have held a ukipt at a Gala casino?

Interesting to see how that goes =/

Hi Tighty,
Do you think the grosvenor will alter much in the galas , tournement wise?
The gala bristol have a really good £100 f/o every month with great structure and levels, also with the £50 twice amonth, grosvenor normal every day tournies are much cr@ppier imo, have asked up there but no one seems to know what is going on really.
