Play in the redtooth pub league for the last 2 "seasons".  They get around 15-18 players at my local with top 2 in league after 12weeks go through 13th week is a playoff for places 3-10 for another place in the regionals.

I missed out on auto qualify last season after the 3rd and 4th place just folded to higher points, which should have made me fold my hands to ensure i qualified, but i couldn't fold my hands and subquently lost the position

The resulting playoff was then moved to another time, the txt everyone got, i got on an old phone, so missed out!!!

Week 2 of 12 tonight and I've had enough.  Blinds 500/1000 I'm on around 10.5k which is 2nd in chips, and players A,B and C have 500, 800 and 2300 between them roughly with a couple of others around 4 or 5k.

everyone kept folding to climb the ladder of points, which just did my head in playing like that so i didnt look for 3 hands in a row...no-one noticed, I even got a walk!

shoved everyhand just to go out as id had enough and ended up a10 vs j10 and out to a Jack.

Is is just my pub or redtooth, or is it all like this?  Didnt seem as bad last season, but last 2 weeks of end league and this week tipped me over to quit.

Its just fun i know, pint and poker on a Monday, but to fold half-a-blind for 30more points, i cant be doing with it despite the fun.

IMHO pub poker can be very much hit and miss skill wise and the variance is MASSIVE as a result.

I've played about 25% of the games in my local ( Harrogate ) pub poker league this year and seen all standards ...

all types of players turn up, from WSOP wannabees through to them who think facebook poker is like real life.

I try to treat it as a night out which may provide a small profit at the end but it has to be entertainment first and foremost

Most important I try to accept the 1 card river suck outs with grace, even when the drunk dances round the table shouting how he knew he had me beat

after all if I was really half decent I wouldn't be playing pub poker , I'd be cleaning up every night at DTD ( in my dreams )

i TD the redtooth game in the pub i reguarly go i have altered there structure to allow more play (pubs open till 1 am so plenty of time)
players are terrible though people limping from 6 big blind stacks calling for 2/3 of there stacks etc etc but the game isnt that bad
short handed is so unreal with no raises unless people have AQ+ or TT+ and 3 bets are unheard of

Sounds like our local Casinos, which are both full of people who have 'moved up' from pub games
