I don't why Britain and Ireland put up with such dreary dirges as National Anthems. Some countries have got cracking anthems. The French one is fantastic, closely followed by Germany, while Russia, Italy, US, South Africa and China (and Europe) all have ones that are a pleasure to hear.

After a couple weeks tolerating him, why is John McEnroe still on my TV?

Funny how opinions differ. For me McEnroe epitomises everything good about commentary / punditry.

In the states, he commentates alongside his brother. Double the McEnroe

I thought it only right to report back on some good quality whinging I heard in London yesterday.

Whilst picking up tickets I heard somebody complaining that none of the stewards knew what they were doing and were complete idiots.

They'd told him the start of the bike race was just up there (pointing up the Mall)

But when he'd gone that way they'd turned him back and told him to go back down the Mall because you needed tickets to get any further.

I can't help thinking that there's no evidence here that the stewards don't know what they're doing - but he was massively pissed off with all the incompetence they were 'obviously' showing by - according to his interpretation of this - not knowing where the bike race start was.

Tennis and at Wimbledon I agree, but I just found it really cringeworthy when he was trying to comment on other sports.

Like you said opinions differ.

Olympics are great and momentum is gathering after the tremendous mens gymnastics display.

Why oh why did the BBC start their evening Olympic programme with the '66 World Cup??

Olympics is about a British team but the English bias kicks in yet again

Getting sick of the biased coverage.

The Chinese divers who won gold were incred.

Headline? "Tom Daley comes 4th".

Just trying to get used to your humour, here...that's a joke, right?

Most people don't know who the "other bloke" is, let alone who the Chinese divers are.

The press have to appeal to a public who can't point to Glasgow on a map of the UK, who consider the XFactor good entertainment and who voted for The Only Way Is Essex to win a BAFTA.

I want completely biased coverage

I want commentators who go nuts when our competitiors achieve medals

Its our home Olympics, a bit of jingoism is not only to be expected but encouraged

As long as its not negative xenophobia, and we celebrate amazing achievements from whichever nation too, fine

Bloody great performance by the men's gymnastics team to get a medal. Loved the impartial and overtly patriot commentary too.

Cheesy

"Where were the Germans?... and frankly, who cares!?"

Brilliant commentary from Barry Davies when the British team won gold in the hockey in Seoul.
