Poker - I play for enjoyment, the chance of a bink, and the social side of the game have met many really top people in my life through poker and that is a good thing for me

Same here  made some good friends thro poker ,had some great nights out too ,plus some real ball breakers which can be outweighed by the people

Poker is unique in that anyone can be successful in the short and medium term regardless of their level of skill. It's a game where you can hit the ground running then learn as you go.

You can learn the rules sit down and play for real money immediately and with luck on your side you can win.

As a beginner :

You could not walk onto a tennis court with a top professional and win.

You could not enter a championship golf tournament and win.

You could not enter the snooker world championships and win etc etc.

But you can enter a poker tournament and beat some of the best poker players in the world with a little luck on your side and I believe that is a major reason why it is so popular.

In poker Lady Luck is a great leveller. If its on your side you can clean up. If it's not then can will lose regardless of how well you play.

Therefore although poker is a game of skill it also involves a large amount of luck which means there is a large element of gambling in poker.

That said when I play I don't consider it purely gambling. Because using the correct decision making and playing as near to optimal as you can in any given hand should result in success over the medium to long term if not in short term.

True gambling such as roulette or blackjack is the opposite in that the statistical advantage though small is with the house. Therefore the vast majority will lose in the long term regardless of how they play ( unless they can card count in blackjack).

Why is it addictive?  The thrill of winning is addictive.  Even losing players will win some pots and experience that thrill.

Poker is competitive. It involves pitting your wits against your opponents. It involves risk taking which comes natural to the male gender which may explain why there are more male poker players than female playing.

These are just a few of my thoughts on the game.

Good luck with your project
