What a great era that was.

It certainly was. Of the 4 you mention, 3 of them win the Fighting Fifth, Monksfield being the exception.

In a 9 year spell, wins from Comedy of Errors (3), Birds Nest (3), Sea Pigeon (2) & Night Nurse (1), shows the quality. Some memories in the trainers names, too, three trainers shared all 9 renewals in that period, Fred Rimell, Bob Turnell, & Peter Easterby.

The race title was named after an Army Regiment, Wiki informs me.

Jeez , how could I miss Comedy of Errors , fantastic bull of a horse. Night Nurse and Monksfield as game as they came ,
Sea Pigeon and Bird's Nest the hold up horses.

Those four I suppose could be matched with Sugar Ray , Marvelous Marvin , Hitman Hearns and Hagler.

At the time I didn't realise how good these "animals" were and that I was witnessing something unique.

Special , special days.

I think "Comedy of Errors" was named after some naff play.

Lol. Wish I read my posts properly before posting.

Obviously Marvellous Marvin is Hagler , meant to put Duran in as last name.

As for Comedy of Errors being a play, Ali's nickname at the old Gala springs to mind...
