I had a brand spanking A8 4.2L when I was living in London back in 2006, and that was a corker of a motor.

There's the 'S' version, which is a even better.

My late dad loved jags, he was an old school gentleman that loved everything British.

I’ll never forget one incident when I was a kid. He had bought a new jag, it was his pride and joy. I was probably about 8 years old or so and went and sat in the new car by myself. For some reason I pushed the fag lighter in (it was a novelty back then) pulled it out when it was ready, and to check how hot it was I placed it on the leather seat next to me to see what it would do  Shocked

Stupidity at its worst, of course it burnt a hole in the leather!  Sometimes at that age you just do shit and don’t think of the consequences, I think there was steam coming out of my dads ears for about a month after that, I was properly in the doghouse

V4, V6 or V8 pads? I've done a few laps in a R, think it has a tough job against the competition.

Don’t know if I missed something but didn’t you do your driving test recently? If so I’m not sure buying a high performance car so quickly is the most sensible idea.......your choice obviously.

If you've F Type money why not join the modern world and buy a Tesla Model S? It'll leave the F Type for dead and basically just be a much better car especially for someone living in London.

If you really want a loud car then of course an F Type is ideal but if it's performance you're after there are better and quieter options.

Don't get me wrong, the F Type is a lovely looking bit of kit. The Tesla though is just...... better.....

You could even hold out for a couple of years and get a Tesla Roadster. 0-60 in 1. anyone?

I am, neither leveling nor loaded just comfortable, (at the moment) it’s all relevant to ones needs and aspirations.

I thought I would make a list of all the cars I have owned since 18 some 30+ years ago and give them a rating (N) for bought new otherwise all second hand. Rating 1 -10.

Zodiac Zephyr – poor man’s roller – 5
Ford cortina MK2 – loved this car until a mate wrote it off – 9
Ford capri 3.0 – I wrote this one off, crap in the wet – 7
Austin allegro – reliable – 3
Hillman Imp – no street cred – 3
Mini Cooper – hated it so small – 1
Ford Granada – loved it felt like the Sweeney – 10
Morris Marina – brought it on the second day broke down I just left it – 0
Morris Minor – you had to put the brakes on early – 4
Triumph Stag – don’t know why I bought it – 3
Golf GL (N) – pretty car but boring – 7
Mercedes 190E (N) – solid, reliable, German – 8
Range Rover EFI – love affair begins – 9
Range Rover 4.6 HSE (N) – love affair continues – 10
Peugeot 406 pickup – the springers loved it – 10
BMW 518i sports – best car for handling, reliable – 9
Range Rover 2.5 – love these cars – 10
Vauxhall Frontera – worst car ever – 0
Ford Escort Estate – reliable not much else to be said – 5
Mercedes 200 2 door coupe – great car but boring – 8
Range Rover TDV8 (N) – best one so far – 10

Volkswagen Transporter (N) still going after 17 years never spent more than £100 to get it through the MOT – 10

My dream car is a Bentley Continental with a banana yellow interior and a chocolate brown exterior which I have dreamt of since I was 8. Some day.

I've always loved the look of the old BMW 8 Series, and you can find good examples if you're happy with a car of that age (which it seems you are).

The 850i is an incredible car, so much kit on it for a car of that age.

I'd be really careful if you go for one of those though as they're basically an M5 in a different body. M5 parts mean M5 prices and they're ridiculous. God forbid you need a new exhaust at any point!!

Do you ever watch Wheeler Dealers? They've covered the 850i and probably most of the Jags you like at some point in the past. Might be worth checking out some of the old episodes.

My dad has an S type although it's a bit newer than you were talking as it's a 2001. Nice looking car although he does have a few problems with it and there's always a bit of welding required to get it through its MOT.
