The problem is that our prize structures over here are far too top heavy (amongst other faults, like awarding prizes which are lower than the buy-in and having fluctuating prize increments as you move up the structure).

When the blind levels get high it becomes a luck-fest.  Who in that situation is going to turn down a safe sum of money in the form of a deal than risk the jump of £40k from 5th to 1st in this case?

I agree completley Heid, but I think because everyone is getting paid so handsomely now, even if they finish fifth, that there is no need to split the money any differently.

I understand entirely the reasons for the players taking a deal; the big stacks get a guaranteed big win, and avoid a possible huge slide if they get unlucky, and the small stacks get a heftier chunk of the prize pool in a situation where they could go out on the next hand. In a sense, people would be foolish not to take a deal.

My quip is against the fact that deals are allowed, not that the players decide to take them. I think a prize structure that was far less skewed would be the best solution.

I've mentioned these issues before, everyone seems to agree with them, but nothing ever seems to change.

Hey all.

I can see the point of view of the players on the deals situation, as they do not want to randomize the process by risking a potentially big win that they have workied so hard for. However, surely, the whole setup of tournament poker means anyone can get unlucky and get knocked out at any time. Therefore, why take away such a potentially thrilling end to a 2-day event by saying "actually, its more luck than anything, so we may as well call it a draw and miss out on the most exciting part for all involved"

come on guys, thats almost as lame as cricket!

Agree completley Tighty. A prize structure similar to the one that players typically agree when they do a deal is surely the best solution; there would stilll be a big enough increment to make each extra position important, without being so crucial.

Congratulations to all involved, it will still be all guns blazing for the victory and the jacket.

i repeat, you have an unusual situation here

a very persuasive short stack

a chip leader who can deal and win in excess of a year's salary, a local lad who has massively played above anything he has achieved before

the circumstances here are Do help contribute to this early deal

I have to disgaree entirely about cricket being lame. The winner of the biggest cricket competition in the world gets a tiny trophy with a few ashes, whilst the losers are left with nothing at all.

fair point stu, at least by changing the prize structure the whole essence of the final table would remain intact. proper poker could be played while the risk of a slide from potentially lots of oney to very little is greatly decreased.

by the way stu, paul says heyup. and jen.

lol "a very persuasive short stack" surely this is one reason why deals shouldnt happen! the big talkers make more money without playing poker, but just by using their negotiating skills
