Morning Trevor.

I never realised it was THAT Dyson (James) or that he had farming interests. Thank goodness for google...

 https://dysonfarming.com/

How are you keeping, still making zillions on the commodities? How's the golf?

Dyson started buying land about 10 years ago and he purchased a massive amount

Just had a coupe days golfing in Yorkshire

Last Friday played in a charity event at Elsham, team of four best two count, we won with 99 points!!

You must be single figures now surely after playing everyday?

Trading ticking along nicely with usual Oil, Gold but mainly softs

Was just sat on the toilet and a swallow came through the open window, did a circuit then straight out, awesome

Get Moulty to get another round sorted please

Ahh yes, trading in softs.....   SOFT WHAT . Poos ? 😂😂😂

99 points, so not one but TWO bandits?

I'll have a word with Moulty & Neil about another round. I'm actually having a round today with Mr Giblin & another friend, Paul Jackson (JAC on blonde) at Mickleover today. Think it's my 3rd round so far this week, the other two were on The Priory Course at Breadsall which is a tough walk for me.

I'm still utterly useless. Golf is HARD.

I'd best stop cluttering up Tom's Diary, he gets a bit tetchy sometimes. I keep wanting to update my Diary with my tales of golf derring do, all of which is fascinating to me but I'm sure everyone would find seriously boring. For now, suffice to say, golf is beating me up big time, I find it SO hard, but I'm loving every minute.  I AM improving, but I'm still hopeless, just less hopeless than before.

The amazing thing is how patient, helpful & understanding everyone has been. It's really humbling.

Thanks to Tom for posting my photos

I delivered to dyson farms Spalding the other week
Obv asked the lady is this the real James Dyson ?
Yes was the reply
quite a large and surprisingly tidy yard for a farm
Also seem to remember doing some bhs for a new barn for him some years ago through his consulting engineer Steve Kidd associates  Spalding based

Steve learnt after 2/3 large grain or potato sores subsiding due to the weight of produce stored that a bh for foundation design is quite important
After a multi conveyor computer controlled system in a grain store came apart due to differential settlement
Also a potato store which stores big wooden boxes which individually weigh 1.5 tons and when stackedd 6 high  there’s obv considerable weight on the foootslab
So he now insists on a geotechnical investigation

"a very nice guy around 50ish"

Many of you will be jumping to conclusions there, but for the record, no, it was not me.

More seriously, it's SO wonderful to be on golf courses at this time of year, wildlife everywhere you look. Hope you had a good round Ralph & there are no golfing after-effects from your broken wrist last year.

Oddly enough, I saw some Egyptian goslings on Breadsall Priory on Thursday, & I attempted to take a few 'photos too. I'll try & post them later.

It’s not just golf courses Tikay
I now drive for Ocado 6 weeks ago in the sticks south east of Lincoln near Digby - I think early one morning 0630 ish a white barn ? Owl flew across my route and obv I slowed down to take a look  , it landed and sat perched on a fence post
Then after delivering to a remote house at a farm I was driving along the raised track with hares in the field either side of me ,some 50 m in front of me one started running across the field up the bank across my route it then vaulted a dyke ,ran up to another hare they both stood on their back legs and started boxing after which they resumed grazing
It really was quite magnificent

Hello again everyone!

So I took up golf again during Covid when golf courses opened again. Move along another three months and them my boss said working from home is going so well I could make it permanent. We always holiday in Norfolk so it made sense to move there now rather when I retired.
We found a lovely house with a huge garden. Very rural but only 3 miles from Kings Lynn so easier access to London. We happen to back onto the 8th fairway of the local golf course and now it feels like we are living the dream. From now until October instead of my 50 minute commute from London to Essex I can be on the first tee within 10 minutes of leaving my "office". I still have to pinch myself sometimes. This time of year in the evening the birds of prey circle looking for an easy ducklings. Squirrels are everywhere and the odd deer can be seen skipping across the fairways. They asked me to be the Club Secretary last year which I gladly accepted. We also have a small group of about 20 of us called "The Middleton Old Boys" and for nine months of the year we play a different course in Norfolk every month. I'm not bothered about my handicap in anyway but I started off 26 three years ago and reached a low of 14.8 a couple of months ago. Lots of practice helps I suppose :-)
Middleton is a small community and the local village pub is only 10 mins walk away. I restrict myself to once a week. The only time I play poker now is if the pub is particularly quiet and I can find a corner to fire up the £2 deep stack on my phone to quietly while away the time.
Jules has never sung before but joined "Your Choir" when we moved here and loves it. She has met many friends through it as well. We were driving to Sandringham a couple of years ago as she was singing there as part of the Queens Jubilee celebrations neither of us could quite believe it.
We only 20 mins drive to the coast as well and the dogs have a blast there. We also have many beautiful walks around here so that's how I spend my lunch hour every day.
I also love my electric bike. The tyres were pumped up and chain oiled and we went for our first ride of the year yesterday evening. The village closest to us is North Runcton which is gated as it has cows roaming freely. The other side is miles of open countryside.
Its so weird to think that Covid is responsible for all of this.
Times have moved on now and I have to spend two days a month in the office. I do this consecutively as if you book in advance a Travelodge is only about £100 a night. I drive to nearby Watlington station to get to Kings Cross. Its a tiny unmanned station which is only 4 carriages long and so quaint. Parking is only £1 for 24 hours as well. Its nice to go back to the City though and eat in some decent restaurants and have a good lunch. WFH lunches always seem to be either soup or a sandwich! But soon the greenhouse will be full of salad. I also make a trip once a month to play golf with my work colleagues and normally pick somewhere north of the M25.
If anyone ventures over this way and fancies a round you are more than welcome.
Check out the video at the bottom of the page.

May bore you all with some pictures as well but for now clubs have to be cleaned as we are teeing off at 8.42 am tomorrow.

We live in Peterborough and have looked at moving to sunny hunny but nothings been done about it yet
Every Christmas morning we go to sandringham to see the Royal family go to church and subsequent Sundays after till they return to London
We avoid the coast at weekends instead preferring to visit midweek when it’s quieter sometimes calling at friends in east rudham who downsized to a smaller house in this charming area
It’s wonderfully rural and peaceful

Got a pretty sweet deal on Vegas for later this year, but it did take a lot of advance planning....

My daughter turns 21 in December, and since she was little we've talked of going to Vegas for her birthday.

About 18 months ago I signed up for the reward+ credit card which gives a pretty hefty points bonus for a certain spend in the first year, plus a companion/upgrade voucher. Also signed up to virgin red which effectively gives double points (at least) for purchases made through there on things you might be buying anyway (eg Just Eat).

When the day came round that the flights for our dates were released I had enough points to pay for a PE ticket for myself, and the companion voucher to use for Hannah's flight. We just had to pay taxes (which were pretty eye watering at £500 and change each).

Hotel is completely gratis - not been to Vegas for around five years but not paid for a room on my last few trips thanks to MGM Rewards (previously MLife). I'm not a high stakes gambler but a couple of hundred a day in the slots at MGM properties will give you plenty of comp room offers (usually 4 nights) - just need to log into your account to see what's available.

Whilst I'm here, any recommendations for fun nightspots where a 21 year old and a 48 year old will be equally comfortable would be happily received Smiley

Almost any cirque de soleil show is a good night out
A reasonably priced dinner at battistas ihole in the wall -Italian food - at the back of Ballys /flamingo

I just renewed the virgin fee card £160 per annum gets you 15 k miles spend £3 k in 3months get another 15 k
30 k airmiles in a sale is about £400 so it seems like a good deal
Then cancel it again in 11.5 months before the next £160 fee

We also were thinking this year would be our last year
But l3 Saturdays ago we looked on virgin and using 107 k points and a £20 k spend on the virgin credit card upgrade
We got two PE seats for $540 each
Such a good price we couldn’t resist
Our answer to massively rinsing strip costs is simply southpoint or downtown
Southpoint recently voted best locals casino
