Missus is working later than expected so it looks like I could have my phone til about 3pm. Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.

When she steps through the door the deal is we turn both phones off and put them away until tomorrow. Obv will be on my phone at 0001 just to be pedantic. I know I moan but I am actually looking forward to this evening. Back in the day we used to do weekends away or see a show, few bars, posh meals etc. and I was never really a fan. Since getting married we've just gone out for a meal then back in the house asap and it's all been pretty standard. Tonight it's cutting all outside communications, bottle of wine, popcorn, ice cream and a couple of horror movies. Actually looking forward to it.

Hove chosen a couple of V/H/S/2 and the little known Midnight Son with Stoker in reserve in case any of those are awful.

Don't be shy, share your valentine's plans?

Nandos vinny?

eurgh. One of those, just like my uncle (the one I don't see). He doesn't buy birthday cards or presents, same for anniversaries,  Xmas, Halloween and bonfire night. He gives it all that consumer blah blah as well. When it comes down to it he is a cheap, miserable prick. It's not like he doesn't buy cards of flowers but will do the odd nice thing throughout the year for his kids or missus. He just doesn't do anything at all. He is abs loaded though and his house is incred..

The way I see it is this; last year my grandad died, for xmas I bought one of those register a star things for my nan. You get a certificate etc and you can name the star and it's all nice. I know it's just a farce, the star isn't really registered to them, someone is just printing and laminating a bit of paper and watching the $$$ roll in.. but at the end of the day I know that laminated bit of paper will bring my nan an immeasurable amount of happiness. We had her outside looking up at the sky, got the co-ordinates of the star and pointed out which one was her's and my grandad's.

I know that doesn't really apply to me as I do things all the time for both my missus and daughter but I felt the need to defend my type.

Dave, do you have pancakes on pancake day (aka shrove Tuesday)? Effin love pancakes. Can't wait. I could just go into the kitchen right now and knock up some pancakes but what would be the fun in that?

Edit: please don't think I am calling you a cheap or miserable prick Mr Amos. That is strictly only my uncle. I like you very much even though you do support the mid table scum.

i am a romantic at heart milli
but those anti-valentines just amuse me

we do pancakes at the slightest excuse (just to show off my flipping tekkers)
have to have at least four each to have lemon and sugar on first, treacle on 2nd and 3rd then back to lemon and sugar to clean the palate.

wiiiiii i knew it.

Yeah I am also a sugar and lemon guy myself. Very occasionally I will mix it up with a dollop of strawberry jam but 90% of the time I am strictly oldschool when it comes to pancakes.

Did I dream it or was there a pancake flipping video thread on blonde once? If not there bloody should be. Roll on the 4th of March.

I guess fresh orange is no different to lemon really but it just sounds weeeeeird.

When I was in Paris last year had crêpes a few times but they just weren't a patch on my own. I like thick and stodgy, you can stick your light and airy nambi pambi pancakes.

I always fry in butter and always endeavour to get enough batter in the pan at sufficient heat to make sure that the pancake has some variance in depth and that there are some crispy bits to it without it being burnt.

Every music festival has a crepe stall and they always look so tempting
That circular heat source
The dramatic pouring of batter onto a source that has no sides to contain it
The little wooden swirler thing
The addition of the various filling items for the person in front of you, banana and blueberries and other exotica. I always have lemon and sugar though, and I am ALWAYS disappointed because they are thin, dry, uninteresting things with none of the texture or flavour of a well made pancake.
