Conversation last night about the volcanic ash and flight problem lead us to the past and how we used ships and trains to get around and how simple life seemed to be before. From that we started reminiscing about what we love from when we were younger which we have moved on from.

Mine were (and I have no idea why!) the orange plastic tea caddy on my Grandmas kitchen wall which with a push of a button dispensed a teaspoon of loose tea. She got it from the Ideal Home exhibition and for years it was the proud point of discussion and if we were good we were allowed to push the button and get the tea. But woe betide anyone who leaned against it by mistake as it would all fall on the floor.

Secondly was the soap with a magnet in it - so unhygenic - but I loved the fact that it was soap hanging in the air!

Anyone else?

If you just put wet soap down on the sink after using it, the soap goes all mushy because it doesn't dry out - just sits in a little puddle of water. The magnet means it hangs in the air and dries out properly.

When I was young we never had real coffee and we had what I think was a coffee essence it was a thin bottle with liquid coffee (I forget what it was called) but I loved it and ever since I was a child I only drink coffee and very rarely drink tea.

The worst thing that I remember was the smog, due to everyone having coal fires.  Sometimes the smog was so bad you could hardly see a foot in front of you and many people got lost on their way home.  When you got in your face was black with soot. I would hate to go back to those days.
