Morning sports junkies

Whats the opinion on this?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/4855752.stm
Is the wba more prestigous then ibf?
Shame he should just ditch the belt that he won in his greatest fight.
What if he loses the fight?

Well, IBF is a more prestigous belt than the WBA. He whats to move up to Welterweight as there are 'bigger' fights waiting for him there. However, that means fighting Mayweather which would result in Hatton getting absolutely destroyed. IMO of course...

didnt you say the same about Calzaghe in his last fight mate? Wink

He's unlikely to retire unbeaten but no-one will ever 'destroy' Ricky Hatton in the ring. tha man is top class.

I agree that Hatton is top class, but Mayweather is in a different league (boxing wise) and will just out box Hatton. Each time Hatton tries to charge or get in close Mayweather will just dance round him and pick him off at will.

The Zab Judah Vs Mayweather fight on 8/4 will be a great fight, with the winner likely to fight Hatton next year.

Got to disagree as the WBA (black) belt is historically the one that was the original heavyweight title.

The WBC (green) broke away as Europe was being neglected and the IBF (Red) only came about in the 80's to try and oust the other two.

The other one Hatton holds is the WBO (Brown) belt. This one IS less prestigious than the other three. Is that the one you were on about?

He is suppose to be fighting Luis Collazo for the WBA welterweight crown before he even gets near Mayweather.

I think thats what ACE2M's link probably says. I can't get it for some reason.

Isn't Sugar Shane Mosley in Hattons new division  ( when he moves up that is )

I like the way mosley, hopkins, de la hoya ( sp) and barrera .. all promote their own fights under GOLDEN BOY promotions.  Very clever move.

My favorite time was the period when  Shane Mosley, Trinidad, Forrest, De la Hoya and Ricard Mayorga were fighting .

Most of these have retired, I think Mayorga is the only one still around.  And Mosley, but he is nowhere near the fighter he once was .
