Was Dan Martin in the lead group of two when you posted Tonji?

In the bunch on the final climb. He's been my profitable rider this season.

Cracking pick. I was cooking dinner and saw your post. Five minutes later the two of them were 50 seconds ahead and the price had gone. Wasn't sure if he had made the break before you posted.

I was just having a look at the prices for tomorrow's Stage 10 (nothing OOL btw), when I noticed that the price for Richie Porte to win the King of the Mountains had fallen off a cliff ... 200/1 @ Bet365 (e/w 1/4 odds, 1-2-3) and 150/1 generally.

I found this extremely surprising for a man currently sitting in 3rd place in the race for the polka-dot jersey, and who said in his last interview: “my climbing form is pretty good. I fought alone there by myself, and I’ll be fine.”
Also: “There’s still another two weeks of the Tour, so I am looking forward to moving on,” Porte said. “A recovery day, a few sprint stages, I think it will come around again.”

The fact that Porte has fallen out of GC contention, might actually help his chances in the KOM, as he will be given the leeway to launch attacks, if it is tactically advantageous to do so. If he can find the form that he displayed on the first mountain stage, then he is bound to pick up some more points. I'm not saying that he is going to win the polka-dot jersey (in fact, I don't think that he will), but at 50/1 odds for a podium place, he is definite value, and I have gladly risked a fiver each way.

Not sure if I'll get the chance to look closely at tomorrows stage. Seems a straight forward & dull with a sprint finish. With Cav, Greipel, Kittel & Sagan all have one win each it's hard to imagine anyone else taking this one.

http://www.oddschecker.com/cycling/tour-de-france/tour-de-france-stage-10-[st-gildas-des-bois-saint-malo-197km]/winner

As cws said, nothing much strikes me of interest. Vaguely think the Goss price of 50/1 may be value what with the first week form of OGE, he's not shown much so far, but could be geed up.

This young fella has been great. 3rd yesterday & 8th on GC & all within a team dedicated to Cav. He may struggle in the final week, but a future GT star for sure.

A good explanation of how a sprint stage often works.

“My condition is not brilliant but I improve every day in the grand tours,” said Contador. “I feel my best in the third week."

For someone who does not cycle, is it possible to improve so much in a few weeks? Does this mean that the riders come in to the start of the tour in less than peak shape and do the final bit of preperation during the first week so they hit peak at the end? Is it not possible to maintain peak form for 3 weeks?

Also, I've been looking for ages for Tour de France DVD's. Wanting to watch the whole tours highlights of the Contador years especially. Has anyone been daft enough to come out with a 20 hour boxset of it Smiley

Head to head. Sven Tuft v Cam Meyer

with PP, as much as you like on Tuft.

http://greenedgecycling.com/news/q-a-with-sport-director-matt-white-on-tour-de-france-stage-ten

Quote
Q: Is Svein Tuft okay after his minor crash with Andrew Talansky (Garmin Sharp)? Are we worried that the crash will impact his time trial tomorrow?

Svein is completely fine. We could have used his horsepower in the final, so in terms of our objectives today, it wasn’t ideal to have lost him like that. On the other hand, he was able to sit up and roll in once he lost contact with the field and that saves his legs a bit before the time trial. He’ll be going 100% tomorrow.

Q: You said two days ago we’d need to see how Cam Meyer felt today before deciding how he’d approach the time trial tomorrow. What decision has been taken?

Cam will not go full gas tomorrow. He’ll ride within himself and focus on our plans for him later in the race.

Not an expert on rider performance, but I think a rider can peak to 100% & maintain that for perhaps 4 weeks or so. Often they split the season in two & try & peak twice. Some riders prefer to come into the tour at say 90/95%, especially this one with the stacked final week. We'll see with Contador if this is the case, but have my doubts, perhaps this is his true level post doping.

Why Tony Martin will likely win tomorrow despite probably not being 100%
