Suppose tor could be the first man in wpt history to be knocked out in a chip race. Keep your eye on roland Jen, if he gets the glazed tiltish look at any time grab him and calm him down lol.

Flop:  4 8 J
Turn: 7
River: 5 giving Callaghan the lower straight but not enough - he is out in 22nd

Hello to Jay and Iftab from Imraan!

Jen, the last 22 or so are to the layman a very eclectic and unexpected mix of names. Your thoughts on why so many of the "big" names fell by the wayside and who your idea of the two or three you would fancy to win are please?

Title: Re: PARIS WPT DAY 3
Post by: Djinn on July 28, 2005, 03:46:09 PM
Luck of the less good sort for Imraan now - KK cracked by Alexander Kuzmin's A6.  Alex raised all-in (40k) preflop and Imraan called, only for an Ace to come on the turn knocking him back to 60,000.

TightEnd - to be honest there was quite a small field here to begin with, and Americans for whatever reason stayed away.  I fancy Roland to go far if he doesn't start messing around, and Adam Lounis played very well yesterday.  Juha Helppi's triple-through puts him in a strong position.  I have no idea who Garrett Patrick is but he is a sizeable chip leader.

I think I will support Juha, apart from Rolandinho of course. Need to root for someone!

Ilya Buliechev is crippled by Imraan Ladak in an unusual pot.  The pot was already 60,000 by the turn when the board looked like: 4s 9d 8s 5c.  Ilya (small blind) bet out and Imraan (big blind) raised all-in.  He was called and showed 9 4 for two pair against Ilya's 9 6.  The Ad on the turn changed nothing and Ilya now has 22k

Carlos de Silva doubles through off Curt Kohlberg's button steal with K2 (he held A J) and is now on 42,000
Imraan Ladak  167,500
Peter Heighway  44,500

Juha Helppi is on Roland's immediate right and it folds round to him in the small blind.  He makes it 16,000 to go (b.b.4000).  Roland talks a lot and calls.  The flop is As Qs 9d.  Juha bets out 20k and Roland calls.  They check the 3d turn and the 4d river.  Juha shows J6 off and Roland KQ.  "What if I bet?" asks Juha.  "I know you don't have it - I call" replies Roland in a flash, who is now sitting on 263,000 and the probable chip lead.

Frank Kassela OUT.  On a flop of Qd 3h 5d he bet at his opponent Alan Goehring who put him all-in.  Call; they were on their backs with Frank showing 4 6 of clubs ("I'm on a draw") and Alan 6 3 of diamonds.  Turn Ac, River 6s.  Two pair for Alan Goehring and about 240,000

Go on roland, dont let them bully you and play your natural game mate.

Double-through for Ilya Buliechev with 77 vs Alex Kuzmin's AKoff.  The 7 on the flop put his mind at rest and gave him some breathing room.  (Quote from Tim Anders: "I think a Russian is going to win this pot."

The very next hand short-stacked Kuzmin goes all-in holding Kh 9c for around 25k and is called by Alan Goehring with Qh 10c.  The ten on the flop adds a chunk to Alan's stack and eliminates Kuzmin in 19th place.

Possible table redraw....

Ariston I don't think you need to worry about Roland playing his natural game.  He looks like he's having fun.  Comes and tells me when something exciting is happening.  Which is most of the time.

Just hope he holds it together if he takes a beat. Roland like me unfortunately has the occaiosional blow up joined with tilt like tendancies. Just hope he manages to bring it home. 18 people between 400k and the glory he seeks ;D

They are hand-for-hand now and everybody gets up to watch whichever table is still going last.  Spectators are two deep outside the Rope (it's great being actually in the room).  I will post chip counts as soon as the next player is eliminated.

Title: Re: PARIS WPT DAY 3

Adam Lounis doubles up off of Curt Kohlberg.  Adam bet out 40k (about half his stack) on a 4 7 3 K board.  Curt raised him all-in and after a bit of swearing in French he called showing K7.  Curt's AA found no help and Adam has about 190,000 now.

Curt Kohlberg    160k
Peter Heighway  26k
Carlos de Silva    22k
Gilles Haddad     95k
Michel Zajdenberg  210k
Garrett Patrick    200k

STILL hand for hand

Gilles Haddad           80k
Didier Leroy           230k
Joanna Liu              73k
Juha Helppi            100k
Roland DW            293,500 exactly
Michel Zajdenberg  200k
Garrett Patrick      130k

VERY tense break for the players on the bubble.

Blinds will be 3000 6000 with a 500 ante when they come back.  That'll sort them out.

Title: Re: PARIS WPT DAY 3
Post by: Djinn on July 28, 2005, 05:36:13 PM
Short stacks have been taking the plunge but all have so far survived.  Example: Peter Heighway who is keeping notes which is very helpful for me when I stay too long drinking tea in the break...
Nicolae Simcelescu raised to 10 and Peter found A2 on the big blind and went for it, finding QK against him.  The board came 7 5 7 6 7 and Peter has 50,000 now.

I think you mean the game 'Courchavel' which is where you get the first card of the flop face up before the first betting round.  Omaha variant, I believe.  Played at the Slough Palace ;D

We will try to nab some pictures (cameraless currently)...

DOWN TO !17!!! It's always the last hand before the break!

Peter Heighway OUT
Carlos De Silva OUT

Curt Kohlberg raised on the button enough to put both blinds (Heighway and De Silva) all-in.  They BOTH went for it, showing:

Kohlberg  KK
Heighway  A5
De Silva   QQ

Although Peter was a bit shorter, the all-in short stacks did a deal and are splitting the hard-earned 18th place of 14,990 Euros!

In case Jen is too busy to reply, I believe Roland has almost 300k.

When was the "bubble deal" done? Before the cards went on their backs. I understand this is quite common in America, where they also sometimes agree to "run it again".

I gather it's dinner break now, so I will buy Jen some dinner, she deserves it, eh?

Phil Shaw - NICE SHIRT SIR!

I am now officially Jen's gofer - cups of tea, cokes, ciggies, odd job man. Found my station in life. I don't mind being old and unwanted........sigh.

Well let's hope so. Roland, as the song goes, "won't back down", & he's mixing it up big time witrh Gorehing.

He's a big boy, he'll be all right.

Spectator conditions here are awful. The 2 tables are in a little room, accessed by a sort of double door sized opening, with a velvet rope across the opening to stop the watching froggies from going into the room. There must be 5,000 guys crowded round that opening - well more than a dozen. Shame. So Jen is inside the room, & I am outside in the corridor, a-la Las Vegas, but the boot on the other foot this time.

Hi VanGogh and Congratulations, of course.  Nice to have you on the forum.

Two more players out - Kalil Rahal and Garrett Patrick, former chip leader.

Roland de Wolfe is responsible for the latter - up against AA his Q4 turned into a flush draw which turned into a flush to knock Patrick out and give Roland the enviable stack of 558,000.  That's 558,000

Imraan Ladak lost a few chips limping under the gun with KK.  There was no raise for him to raise and he eventually had to lay them down when the board looked flushing and an opponent bet him all in.  He picked up the blinds a couple of hands later with JJ (they are now 4,000 8,000 ante 1000 so quite a bit each time) and is now on about 70,000.  From Milton Keynes, apparently; mainly plays cash though.

well does that mean no one will get any points then as the rule is if a deal is done everyone get the points for when the deal was struck

Title: Re: PARIS WPT DAY 3
Post by: Djinn on July 28, 2005, 09:49:17 PM
Nicolae Simcelescu narrowly avoided going out in 14th when his all-in with A3 was called by Tim Anders with A9.  The board came 7 8 K 10....7 to split the pot and they are therefore both still in and both fairly short, comparatively.

Ironside if they have to award points for 18th then they would, I imagine, go to the strict 18th - de Silva - as he had more chips at the start of the hand.  But I didn't even know they were up for grabs.  Going to have to find someone official if you really want to know the answer.

The rule only applies if the deal is done at the top of the money not the bottom.

here is the question 5 players left in a comp and they decide to chop 90% of money but play on fo 10% and trophey as there is a deal struck no matter who wins they all get 5th place points

as a deal was done at 18th do they all 0 points as thats how many 18th gets

Dan Alspach OUT - his under the gun all-in was called by Adam Lounis, and then small blind Imraan Ladak took his whole time to go all-in over the top!  Reluctantly Adam called this too and showed 88.  Alspach had Q8hearts and Imraan had found 10 10!

Flop came: 2 K A 4 K and Imraan almost tripled up.

Dan Alspach also took 14,990, and the next person out gets 22,485.

*************Last hand before break and AGAIN someone's out:   Nicolae Simcelescu is 13th.

He moved all-in with A7 of clubs against Tim Anders' J9 of diamonds.  He spiked the nine to knock another short stack out.  Jack Nine, now I'm sure I've heard about that hand before somewhere...

Ilya Bulihev OUT - he re-raised all-in with AQ off and the UTG raiser Alan Goehring called with JJ.  The flop was multicoloured rags and Ilya takes 22,485.

Incidentally, AQ off is the hand that just doubled up Stephane Cohen...

So the chips now look more like:

Alan Goehring      390,000
Roland de Wolfe  505,000
Gilles Haddad       135,000
Didier Leroy        210,000
Curt Kohlberg      190,000
Juha Helppi         280,000
Stephane Cohen  100,000
Adam Lounis        60,000
Michel Zajdenberg 400,000
Imraan Ladak        147,000
Tim Anders          130,000

Stephane Cohen OUT -

He raced Tim Anders' 88 all the way, but the 8 gave Tim the certainty of victory and Stephane is walking away with 22,485.  He looks pretty happy.

Adam Lounis OUT -
Getting short he made an all-in move with 10 8 and was called by chip monster Michel Zajdenberg with AK.  No help for Adam and he gets a prize of 22,485 too.

They are redrawing seats for the final table Mark I (Final Mark II is tomorrow, and 6-handed).

3  Alan Goehring          360k
4  Tim Anders             198k
5  Roland de Wolfe      641k
6  Gilles Haddad           106k

He says hi to you Ironside, btw..

Blinds are now a sizeable 5,000 - 10,000 with a 1,000 ante.  The shortest stack is on about 100,000 which sounds a lot but is only 10 big blinds.  Curt Kohlberg went all-in on Roland's big blind for a further 85,000 and he gave it a big dwell, apparently with a pair.  When he folded he asked what Curt had, and got the reply:  "What did you say when someone asked you the same question - You have to pay!"

I know how to put my picture up now, it's all good...

Imraan Ladak OUT -

Some controversy as Roland de Wolfe called his all-in but turned over his cards *first*.  The dealer dealt the first card of the flop (an 8) before a ruling started to be asked for.  As the temperature rose, Imraan gave the OK to deal as Roland had called his bet.  The Q came to knock him out however, and although he receives 29,980 for 9th, he should be commended for shaking Roland's hand as his decision not to make a fuss about what was a move on shaky legal ground (if there had been players to act behind Roland his hand probably would have been declared dead).

Congratulations to Imraan, nonetheless.

Now, controversy here.

Peter Heighway, the Betfair Qualifier who exited in 17th / 18th has sought our help with a BIG problem, because nobody from Betfair is here, oddly. So I have put him in touch with Ruru.

Peter says he diid NOT do a "lets split it 50%-50% whoever wins" deal. And he reckons (& we don't know in truth) that HE had the most chips. (If you recall, two low stacks exited in the same hand). So, Peter goes to collect his 18th place money, & they say they paid it to the De Silva guy, who has now left the premises! Peter is VERY upset. Anyway, with respect, I can't get involved in sorting it, but the fella lacks experience in these matters, & someone needs  to look after his interests.

And MORE controversy. Imran (?), the Milton Keynes  guy who exited in 18th, with such good grace after a bit of an "incident" (see earlier in this thread), has seen "an official" and been told that the hand should have been ruled as "dead", but it's too late to do anything about it. He is a really nice guy, & has taken his exit, which happened in odd circumstances, with great dignity.

Aside from the deal aspect. Surely the tournament staff counted the chips to know who to give the money too ?

If not why did they give the money to one person ?

Title: Re: PARIS WPT DAY 3

he did say earlier in this thread that the deal was to split it if they both went out on that hand, they would give the cash to the higher chip of the 2 then split it themselves i assume

Title: Re: PARIS WPT DAY 3
Post by: Djinn on July 29, 2005, 12:39:51 AM
In about 10 minutes the table has reached Final Proportions (6)

Gilles Haddad fell to fellow Frenchman Didier Leroy in a battle of the blinds that gave them both full houses.       His prize:  44,970

Then Didier called an all-in preflop raise from the (now chip leader) Michel Zajdenberg.  He called quickly with KK but Michel had AA.      His prize:  59,960

The remaining 6 set about filling in their Player Bios to give Mike Sexton something to talk about ;)

Michel Zajdenberg  758,000
Roland de Wolfe    728,000
Juha Helppi           352,000
Alan Goehring       327,000
Curt Kohlberg       126,000
Tim Anders           116,000

So we'll see them tomorrow, and you'll see them on TV.

P.S.  Two out of my three picks for the final when we started today are still there - Roland and Juha.  Not bad.

According to Tilay he says he thinks he had more chips.

There would be no doubt if they had been counted by staff. Given they paid the total to one person they would need a chip count to know who had the most. The deal for this part is meaningless.

Title: Re: PARIS WPT DAY 3
Post by: tikay on July 29, 2005, 12:40:41 AM
Hi Sandy (Henrik), well, it's POSSIBLE that they DID, & paid out correctly. We only have Peter's side of the tale.

But, by a quirk, Peter has a little notebook, in which he has annotated EVERY HAND, & his chip count, since the tourney began, he updated it at the table after each hand. He says that proves his case, but of course, it's "inadmissable evidence". They DID film the hand though, so maybe it will all get sorted.

You have to feel for Peter though. He's battled for days, thinks he's won 15,000, & he's not got a bean, does not know how to sort it, & has nobody to assist him. We (blonde) have put him in touch with Ruru (via my phone) but it's not easy if you are not here. Irrespective of the rights and wrongs, the incident has soured what should have been a lovely memory for Peter.

Title: Re: PARIS WPT DAY 3
Post by: Karabiner on July 29, 2005, 12:41:06 AM
What he actually said was that he didn't make a deal, but he understood that the rule was to split.

he said that it was different on Betfair. (See page 4 of this thread).

To answer an earlier question, ALL the money was paid to Mr De Silva.

It is simple - who had the most chips? Peter swears he did. But remember, we have not heard the other side of the story.

Title: Re: PARIS WPT DAY 3
Post by: Djinn on July 29, 2005, 12:45:53 AM
Sadly, Peter Heighway did not have more chips than the other guy and so has accepted his loss and taken it very well.  I think neither of the two were quite sure what happened when such a situation occurred, and there were some temporarily crossed wires which gave him the wrong impression.  I think Mr. Da Silva could have been clearer (it looked like he was agreeing to some kind of split) but fair's fair and the rule on this is clear.  This in No Way detracts from Peter Heighway's impressive performance over here and I hope to follow him at other tournaments soon.

Sandy

Peter definately had more chips.....

If that is proven correct then the wpt should hold their hands up and get it sorted.

I am pretty sure the wpt have always worked on more chips higher finish.

The players themselves need to sort deals and the terms but the wpt should pay according to their own terms.

On or off camera the whole table would have seen the count if it took place.

Sandy

Peter Heighway down to just 11,000!  But on his left is Carlos de Silva with 4,500...

Are you sure ?

Title: Re: PARIS WPT DAY 3
Post by: owner on July 29, 2005, 12:49:48 AM
I take the BF reference to mean that he assumed as he had more chips he would get 18th (as per online) but Carlos told him they would split.  If he was told that and he had less chips, then it seems unfair as it would influence his decision on calling (unless he already had).

sounds to me like a big cock up from the WPT , and the TD should have jumped on the band waggon when there was 2 people all in, and going for 18th place, they should know to chip count who has the most

Sack the dealer and the TD!!

Feel sorry for Peter, I think doing deals in poker is an artform and i've heard many people being shafted when a deal has been done

WPT should pay the man out of their huge rake they get for the tournament

Jen has already stated Peter was mistaken about the chip count and has accepted this.

Peter has also stated there was no deal and he misunderstood the payout terms.

A little confusion at a highly stressful time for a newish player on the higher stake scene.

Wpt can't take the blame for that.

Thanks for all your support, really appreciate. Have had great fun. Tired and early start so I wont go into much now. Just two points

the Imran hand- there was no one to act behind me and the 8 had already been dealt. I had called with AQ against his pocket tens and had not protected my hand properly, was playing up to the crowd in the excitement. I saw an Ace then squeezed the second card behind it. Got a warnign but what happened was fair and the lad took it well. I think my hand being dead would have been wrong.

Peter did have less but it really seemed like they had agrred to split. I thought they had. Shoudl be an inquest. Peter is a top guy and seems hard done by.

Thanks again to all

hi, just to set the record strraight...carlos and i didn't do a deal....curt put in the big raise....i called blind......carlos turned to me and said if he won the hand i was out, if i won the hand he was out, and if we both went out on this hand we would share the prize money...curt took us both out so we shared.....i had more chips so on bf this is differet i think.

need to have a few pints so will put up a report tomorrow. just to wish the english boys the best of luck...it was a pleasure playing with you both, bring it back home.
van gogh

I can see how confusion can arise from that but it can only serve as a lesson to people.

If you don't know where you stand, ask. Whether it's the rules or a deal you need to be clear at the vital moment.

Gotta feel sorry for him but inexperience has done him.

Sandy

Henrik's post on the "Peter Affair" is spot on. Pity the dealer & the WPT if they got sacked ("sack them both"...!!!) before that happened........

Roland's post on the other affair also tidies it up.

Next case.

message from van gogh...he's good at painting but he can't add up.....thought he had carlos covered but obviously he didn't..thanks to jennifer, tikay and the dealer for sorting it out...there was no deal but apparently under french rules if 2 players go out at the same time they split the pot...we were playing wpt rules....we lost on points to a home town decision!....moral of the story is if some danny de vito look-a-like says u have just won 7 grand get to the payout counter quick and don't nip round the corner for a few beers.....no probs  this end, we came to win so 19th was as bad as second.....good luck roland, it was great playing  against you....you have added a new dimension to van gogh's game.

I don't talk to the general public these days Foxy. Sorry mate. If I do it for you, I'll have to do it for everyone. I sell lessons though, "how to play the tikay way". Interested?
