Hello again from my table (yes, table!) in the Aviation Club.  I am here in plenty of time for once and am looking forward to bringing the action from the last 27 players in the Grand Prix de Paris direct to you, from here, via the web.  With pictures.  And Snoopy.

There's no sign of the players at the moment, as I'm sure they need every minute of their sleep after yesterday's lengthy battle - and we needed to recover ourselves from the tension of the day, the high drama of the bubble (ref. Paris WPT Day 2 - Live Update ;)   ) and staying up until 8:30am for breakfast with an odd assortment of high-rolling Scandies, intoxicated American ladies and players that just couldn't drag themselves away...

But enough of that, it's back to securing my internet space, and familiarising myself with the quickest way in and out of the Final Room, which judging from last year will have its only entranceway 5-deep with spectators...

I'll post the chip counts and prize structure as reported yesterday (many thanks to Danafish who once again went beyond the call of duty and wrote up the final counts as soon as Sabine appeared with them - 5am) and then it's thumb twiddling and background photography and running back to the hotel to get my power adapter for this Updater...

Whilst waiting for the excellent updates to continue I'm watching a fascinating $200/$400 NL HU online rumoured to be Freddie Deeb and Johnny Lodden. Jen any news from there whether it is the pair of them and if so are they playing on lappies in the Aviation?

27th and 26th place finishes have already been determined - Benjamin Hannuna and Andreas Hagen.  Both were in the bottom four chipwise and it's no surprise there were some chip-gaining attempts fairly early on. 

It also appears that Daniel Lellouche hasn't quite turned up yet - there's a garish bit of pink paper on his stack with his name on it.  Or he could just like to have that there and he's gone to the bathroom or something.

No idea - if so they're not in the press area.  I'll look in the bar on the way for tea - they sound like more than probable candidates, though.

Here's the Surinder Story - OUT in 25th

He had a tough decision on his first big blind of the day (4k out of his 18k) when Jani raised and Andreas Hagen sat next to him in the small blind moved all-in!  It was a tricky decision for him with QJ - and the clock was called eventually, and he passed.  That hand knocked out Andreas' 88 as Jani's KJ hit a straight...

Then in the small blind he straight away doubled up with K 10 against A 6 (Thomas Wahlroos) - spiking two pair.

But, back in the big blind again, Henrik Witt, Serial Raiser, raises from the small blind, and he's all-in again, this time with Qc Qd.  It looked good when he saw Henrik's Ac 5d, but that Ace hit to send him out.

A lot of drama in the first half hour, and that leaves just Nabil Ayoubi flying the British flag...

and well done to you flushy  you played it very well on the final table

Thomas Wahlroos, one of my picks for the day - his record in quite a short space of time is quite extraordinary - and I reckon with a chip stack like that he may well be a candidate for the Final.  Which is why I picked him, obviously.

It really is quite odd the way Mr Hellmuth sits at the table statue-like - not a muscle moves, he's almost robotic.

Jani Sointula, idiosyncratic Finn, next to Christian Grundtvig, then a slice of James Davenport's face and the red checked shirt of Henrik Witt.  When the floorman was trying to clear the room of extraneous press, Henrik said, "players too.  Get rid of the other ones."

I was trying to eavesdrop on him talking to Rolf, and I think there was something about his being called with 6 3 and rivering something...anyway he's kindly offered to share the information as I don't feel like bothering James at this point.  Tough luck late on is tougher, somehow.

I've never updated a WPT event before, but ploughing through the crowd to obtain a chip count looks like a tall order indeed.

The final tables are being plaed out in the roomn behind us, to which there is just the one entrance, and a very narrow passage it is too. Add the hoards of people lingering beyond the rope, and you have a very tricky situation indeed.

Guile, courage, bravery, and, most importantly, muscle, are the attributes I'm going to need to get through to that room - characteristics that I posses by the truck load (ahem).

It's really extraordinary that a WPT that can be played in a Venue such as Aviation. Full of character, yes, full of characters too, very much like The Merrion in many ways, but let's think about this - the Monte Carlo Millions apart, the sole European leg of the WPT surely warrants a better Venue. Is the Aviation really the best Venue in Europe? John Duthie found some superb EPT Venues - Monte Carlo & Deauvile spring to mind, Baden too, all of which could get 300+ players in one, spacious room. Even Dublin has two better locations, space-wise - City West & Jury's Inn.

Bruno & Sabine have been wonderful to blonde, & to me personally, so it's not a personal thing.

Conside this. Access to the cardrooms is via a corridor, the first part of which has a 6' wide "bottleneck", & encroaching in the 6' are two proper, full size, backgammon tables, always in use, & always with a handful of railers blocking through access.

That brings you to a wide corridor, in which, even during the start of the WPT, there were 4 Cash game Tables in use, again, access, past the inevitable railers, is difficult.

Then we get the actual playing area - well, areas.

Two rooms, one either side of the corridor, one has a single 6' wide entrance, the other has 2 x 6' wide entrances. All three entrances are permanently blocked by spectators who are pinned behind the rope.

One room has 8 tables shoehorned in, the other has 4 ditto.

The Venue has no Disabled Access.

It's a lovely venue run by people who have been great to blonde, to 425, & to me, & I would play there 7 days a week if I were in Paris.

But is this the best we can do for Europe's sole WPT foray?

Small aside about the oranginess of the photos - there are so many cameras and press people in there that it seems a drawer of unnecessary attention and an irritant to the players if we're flashing them all the time (as it were) - so we're standing very still and getting what we can with steady hands and natural light. 

Elie Marciano doubles up off Henrik Witt:

The J-A-A flop is emphati with Nabil hitting Quads, but Gruntivg isn't dead. Runner runner Royal Flush is still a possibility, although it's somewhat remote. Unsuprisingly, there is no glowing light from above, and the miracle doesn't occur.

Meanwhile, Nabil shoots up to around the 170k mark.

Phil had an accident?

I think it was short stack John Jerney whom I just caught doubling off Mr. Yu with Ts Td against an Aspades 8h.  The only overcard to the tens appearing was an irrelevant Queen and he's back in the game.

Phil Hellmuth, on the other hand, has most definitely had an accident this level, down to the shortest stack by a long way.  But he's worked his chips back aggressively once already this tournament, and if he keeps his composure could definitely do it again.

Great updatering. been out all day, but now I'm back, and I'm here for the duration.

And Nabil Ayoubi is our 14th place finisher, winning €21,000

He raced for his smallish stack with Ah Kc against Patrick Schuhl's Td Th.  The flop came seven-high, and the board as a whole came eight-high, ending the last British player's run.  Not bad for a second-year-running online qualification though.

Strandlii moves all-in for 30k on the river.

Feriolo only has 25k, but he seems to know he's beat, and decides to fold, thereby making him the latest shortstack.

I think when Christen Johansson went out, Snoopy tried to make a bet with Rolf, backing Wahlroos against him...but Rolf's not an idiot - even being unsure of the chip counts the round of applause immediately preceding the offer made him correctly suspicious.

A great big French Outdraw Cheer just went up as shortstack Romain Feriolo at least doubles up with a 9d 9c suckout against Ts Th.  I give those suits at random (having been told the detail by helpful Edward Rhee whose knockout from the comp hasn't lessened his interest in the game) because it's important that one of Feriolo's Nines was of a suit which could four-flush on the river, saving his bacon.

And as a result, Feriolo is now up to 110k

tx jen .. no not much - Grundtvig has been doing quite well nationaly and internationaly over the last year or 2 -  I dont know Carsten Johansen.. but as I understand they are both part of a danish team of 6 - 8 top players.

Henrik Witt is also from DK, pokermanager at pokerplex and high stakes FL online player.

Kenneth Strandli is down to the felt after a brutal Ad Ac which was cracked by Christian's King-hitting Kc Ks.

Despite someone saying they'd folded a King, the board came out Kh 2d 9d 3d 2h.  Ouch.

Strandli looked gutted and growled under his breath.

Blinds are currently at 5000/1000 (1000)

And that pot right there - the biggest of the night - 700,000 - gave Grundtvig the lead, after right before the dinner break he won a crucial race with Sevens against KJ.  So from potentially Out, to potential Final Tablist - such is the nature of No-limit Hold'em...

Double up news now as we approach the final (TV) table.

Patrice Boudel has just lost a crucial coin flip.

All-in with A-K versus Patrik Schuhl's pocket ladies.

Queen on the flop practicially sealed it.

Boudel is now right down to the felt with just 37k.

Finishing in 9th place for €37,500 is Patrice Boudet

The Frenchman moved his short stack (31,000) all-in with 2c 2d, and found Jani Sointula willing to give him a spin with Ad Ts - an Ace coming signified the end of Patrice's run, and he got a hearty round of applause from the spectators.

And, as expected, Kenneth Strandli quickly made a move, so quickly, in fact, that I was stuck in row 3 out of 5 spectators and only saw the clapping and rising of the unlucky Norwegian.

But we have the bare bones:  Kenneth Strandli eliminated in 8th position, for €56,250

The guys (top) are friends of Patrick Schuhl (below) and sort of got a bit excited when I was taking pictures of him, insisting I get them too.  So enthusiastic were they that they deserve their shot along with Patrick, whose attention they got by shouting - it's an old way but a good way...

We don't have our mits on the official chip counts, but there really weren't any hands played since the last run Jen made, with the exception of Witt, who added Boutboul's stack to his own.

This looks like it could be a pretty interesting final table. It's definitely anybody's tournament at this point!

I dont know if there has ever been such an even chip count at a final table. Good luck to Henrik and Thomas, both great guys w/ great games.
