Title: Paris WPT Day 3 - Live Update Post by: Djinn on June 15, 2006, 02:21:15 PM Hello again from my table (yes, table!) in the Aviation Club. I am here in plenty of time for once and am looking forward to bringing the action from the last 27 players in the Grand Prix de Paris direct to you, from here, via the web. With pictures. And Snoopy.
There's no sign of the players at the moment, as I'm sure they need every minute of their sleep after yesterday's lengthy battle - and we needed to recover ourselves from the tension of the day, the high drama of the bubble (ref. Paris WPT Day 2 - Live Update ;) ) and staying up until 8:30am for breakfast with an odd assortment of high-rolling Scandies, intoxicated American ladies and players that just couldn't drag themselves away... But enough of that, it's back to securing my internet space, and familiarising myself with the quickest way in and out of the Final Room, which judging from last year will have its only entranceway 5-deep with spectators... I'll post the chip counts and prize structure as reported yesterday (many thanks to Danafish who once again went beyond the call of duty and wrote up the final counts as soon as Sabine appeared with them - 5am) and then it's thumb twiddling and background photography and running back to the hotel to get my power adapter for this Updater... Blinds currently 2,000/4,000 ante 500 They are scheduled to play to the final (Televised) table today - I think that's 6 for the WPT, right? The white button signifies the dealer and moves one position clockwise each hand, determining the order of dealing and subsequent action. Jen any news from there whether it is the pair of them and if so are they playing on lappies in the Aviation?

Title: Re: Paris WPT Day 3 - Live Update Post by: Djinn on June 15, 2006, 03:24:15 PM 27th and 26th place finishes have already been determined - Benjamin Hannuna and Andreas Hagen. Both were in the bottom four chipwise and it's no surprise there were some chip-gaining attempts fairly early on.
It also appears that Daniel Lellouche hasn't quite turned up yet - there's a garish bit of pink paper on his stack with his name on it. Or he could just like to have that there and he's gone to the bathroom or something. Title: Re: Paris WPT Day 3 - Live Update Post by: Djinn on June 15, 2006, 03:36:51 PM Here's the Surinder Story - OUT in 25th
He had a tough decision on his first big blind of the day (4k out of his 18k) when Jani raised and Andreas Hagen sat next to him in the small blind moved all-in! It was a tricky decision for him with QJ - and the clock was called eventually, and he passed. That hand knocked out Andreas' 88 as Jani's KJ hit a straight... Then in the small blind he straight away doubled up with K 10 against A 6 (Thomas Wahlroos) - spiking two pair. But, back in the big blind again, Henrik Witt, Serial Raiser, raises from the small blind, and he's all-in again, this time with Qc Qd. It looked good when he saw Henrik's Ac 5d, but that Ace hit to send him out. A lot of drama in the first half hour, and that leaves just Nabil Ayoubi flying the British flag... Title: Re: Paris WPT Day 3 - Live Update Post by: Jim R on June 15, 2006, 03:38:58 PM and well done to you flushy you played it very well on the final table
Title: Re: Paris WPT Day 3 - Live Update Post by: Djinn on June 15, 2006, 03:39:42 PM So who are you and snoopy tipping to win then Jen? I picked: Christer Johansson Phil Hellmuth can't remember the last one but I'll go for Wahlroos snoopy picked: Romain Feriolo Karsten Johansen Daniel Bartelsen. I think. It was very, very late. Title: Re: Paris WPT Day 3 - Live Update Post by: Royal Flush on June 15, 2006, 03:41:12 PM and well done to you flushy you played it very well on the final table Thanks Jim, i hope you get in next time, you have been a bit unlucky at the key stages in those sats! Title: Re: Paris WPT Day 3 - Live Update Post by: Djinn on June 15, 2006, 03:51:29 PM And we're down one Sami Torbey - eliminated by Henri Boutboul with Ac Qd against his Kc Jh.
The board: K Q A 2 3. It also appears that Daniel Lellouche is out... the numbers on the screen would tally that - it says we're down to 22, but before I had time to scan the room properly, a mini-press-crackdown occurred and I retreated before the cameras. Firstly John Jerney, Kenneth Strandli and Patrice Boudet. John is wearing a T-shirt kind of embossed with an elaborate gold design with 'USA' at the top. I think he might be an American. I do hope he does well today though as love him or hate him he is certainly good for TV and good for the profile of the WPT in Europe (maybe we will get more WPTs over here in the future- I hear theres a big new card room opening in England soon, would be perfect for a WPT).

Title: Re: Paris WPT Day 3 - Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on June 15, 2006, 04:45:17 PM Hi folks!
I've never updated a WPT event before, but ploughing through the crowd to obtain a chip count looks like a tall order indeed. The final tables are being plaed out in the roomn behind us, to which there is just the one entrance, and a very narrow passage it is too. Add the hoards of people lingering beyond the rope, and you have a very tricky situation indeed. Guile, courage, bravery, and, most importantly, muscle, are the attributes I'm going to need to get through to that room - characteristics that I posses by the truck load (ahem). Full of character, yes, full of characters too, very much like The Merrion in many ways, but let's think about this - the Monte Carlo Millions apart, the sole European leg of the WPT surely warrants a better Venue. Is the Aviation really the best Venue in Europe? John Duthie found some superb EPT Venues - Monte Carlo & Deauvile spring to mind, Baden too, all of which could get 300+ players in one, spacious room. Even Dublin has two better locations, space-wise - City West & Jury's Inn.
Bruno & Sabine have been wonderful to blonde, & to me personally, so it's not a personal thing. Conside this. Access to the cardrooms is via a corridor, the first part of which has a 6' wide "bottleneck", & encroaching in the 6' are two proper, full size, backgammon tables, always in use, & always with a handful of railers blocking through access. That brings you to a wide corridor, in which, even during the start of the WPT, there were 4 Cash game Tables in use, again, access, past the inevitable railers, is difficult. Then we get the actual playing area - well, areas. Two rooms, one either side of the corridor, one has a single 6' wide entrance, the other has 2 x 6' wide entrances. All three entrances are permanently blocked by spectators who are pinned behind the rope. One room has 8 tables shoehorned in, the other has 4 ditto. The Venue has no Disabled Access. It's a lovely venue run by people who have been great to blonde, to 425, & to me, & I would play there 7 days a week if I were in Paris. But is this the best we can do for Europe's sole WPT foray? Roll on a Governing Body...... To repeat - I LOVE the Aviation, it's got such atmo. But as a WPT Venue....... Title: Re: Paris WPT Day 3 - Live Update Post by: Djinn on June 15, 2006, 05:09:21 PM Here's an interesting trio, Phil Hellmuth (tall even when sitting down), ZPA Yu, and Patrick Schuhl.

Flop = 8h 3d Qh It's checked round to the bullet dodger, who sticks out a bet of 15k. Patrick Schuhl calls, but Christer Johansson pushes in 100k (!) Phil rises from his seat in disgust. "All those hands he's been lucky" "Still doesn't matter, we'll get him later" "There's a long way to go yet my friend" "You've got away with murder so far" All this in one hand, with Johannson not saying a dickie bird. Phil passed by the way, and so did Patrik, revealing a queen in the process. He's fairly realistic about his chances, "I've only got about 100k..." but would be an interesting dark horse. Next to him is scary Dane (I think) Karsten Johansen.

Title: Re: Paris WPT Day 3 - Live Update Post by: Djinn on June 15, 2006, 05:23:21 PM Elie Marciano doubles up off Henrik Witt:
The very short stacked Marciano made his move with Ks Qd, and Henrik Witt (big blind, it looked like) called with Ac Th. Flop: 3c Kh 2d Turn: 6s River: 3s And Elie doubles up, but still has less than 100k, it looks like. Title: Re: Paris WPT Day 3 - Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on June 15, 2006, 05:23:50 PM Meet the only Brit remaining... Nabil Ayoubi. Qualified online and seems like a pretty nice bloke, so I think he deserves our support.
So, big cheer for his recent double up. Christian Gruntvig raises, Nabil moves all-in, and a pot-committed Gruntvig makes the call. Q-J v A-A The J-A-A flop is emphati with Nabil hitting Quads, but Gruntivg isn't dead. Runner runner Royal Flush is still a possibility, although it's somewhat remote. Unsuprisingly, there is no glowing light from above, and the miracle doesn't occur. Meanwhile, Nabil shoots up to around the 170k mark. Title: Re: Paris WPT Day 3 - Live Update Post by: Djinn on June 15, 2006, 06:07:33 PM I think it was short stack John Jerney whom I just caught doubling off Mr. Yu with Ts Td against an Aspades 8h. The only overcard to the tens appearing was an irrelevant Queen and he's back in the game.
Phil Hellmuth, on the other hand, has most definitely had an accident this level, down to the shortest stack by a long way. But he's worked his chips back aggressively once already this tournament, and if he keeps his composure could definitely do it again. Title: Re: Paris WPT Day 3 - Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on June 15, 2006, 06:10:15 PM Gilles Haddad is OUT.
eliminated by Henri Boutboul J-J v K-K Boutboul's victory was clinical as he flopped a set, before making quads on the turn. He raised to 22,000 in the cutoff (blinds 3k/6k). Christer Johansson was obviously not convinced, putting him to the test for his whole stack in the small blind. To my surprise, Henrik called very quickly with Ad Qs, and found Christer pipped with his Aspades Jc. The board: Qc 9c 9h 7h Ahrt And a 136k knock to the chip leader. Title: Re: Paris WPT Day 3 - Live Update Post by: Djinn on June 15, 2006, 08:03:21 PM A great big French Outdraw Cheer just went up as shortstack Romain Feriolo at least doubles up with a 9d 9c suckout against Ts Th. I give those suits at random (having been told the detail by helpful Edward Rhee whose knockout from the comp hasn't lessened his interest in the game) because it's important that one of Feriolo's Nines was of a suit which could four-flush on the river, saving his bacon.

Title: Re: Paris WPT Day 3 - Live Update Post by: snoopy1239 on June 15, 2006, 08:16:33 PM Karsten Johansen is OUT, taking us into hand-for-hand play.
Hairy moment for Strandli though, who was virtually all-in. Stranli raised from trap 2 with 7h 7s, only to run into a big bling all-in push from Karsten. It was 87k more for the young Norwegian to call, and I was sure he was going to pass, but, eventually, he did indeed make the correct call, finding overcards to his pocket pair. So... Strandli = 7h 7s Johansen = Kd Jc Flop was a menacing one... 9h Aspades Qh Turn = 8c River = 4d Big Norwegian shouts, the youngster clenches his fist, and Karsten exits the cardroom. Title: Re: Paris WPT Day 3 - Live Update Post by: Djinn on June 15, 2006, 08:17:02 PM Yes, the Danish doing infinitely better than the British (at least at this moment) - but we'll leave them in suspended animation for 1hr40 now as everyone wanders off for their *************************DINNER BREAK**************************
