Title: Changes to the blonde Forum
Post by: tikay on July 03, 2006, 07:42:33 PM

We think it's time to tinker with the Forum to reflect what we believe the Members want.

The Profiles Section will become a Child Board of General Discussiion.

Bettng Tips & Sports Diiscussion will become a Main Board in the General Category.

Put simply, we intend to swap them over.

Both boards are absolulutely fine, in our opinion, but Betting Tip & Sports Discussion has proven very popular. In around 7 months, it has attracted nearly 500 New Topics, & it genarates an average of 1200 Posts per month - in fact, a great deal more recently. Despite beng a Child Board, it's about the 4th most used Board of late. (I think we have 9 Boards in total right now). It's time to give it a little more exposure.

So there you go. We feel sure if you are not happy, you might just mention it......

Brilliant!

We could have.....

Train Histories

Train Profiles

Trains General

Tran Live Updates (of Train Journeys)

Train Analysis

Train Tips

Train Timetables

Train Norkage

The list is endless.

Then we could do Railway Stations - I'm becoming fascinated by them - I think I have a book in me.

Top Man that Booder.

What about the Train bitching?.......

Losing Train tickets, having proof of purchase but forced to pay again anyway.

Unsympathetic staff.

Having the same seats reserved for 3 different people. General overbooking/crowdiness

Extortiante Prices

Broken Air Conditioning

Other people's children  ;tk;

The only ones running to schedule are the connections you're trying to catch.

But well worth it for the pleasure we get. Many are those who consider a good train journey is better than, well, "congress".

If we did have a Trains board there would certainly be changes to the Blondepoker forum.

We'd first have to change at Crewe, then change again at Rugby...

Title: Re: Changes to the blonde Forum
Post by: tikay on July 04, 2006, 12:45:21 AM

Rugby is a bit naff, but Crewe is magnificent, steeped in railway history, with the old Railway Works never far from one's thoughts. But electrification always changes the character of a Station, & though the Train Shed is fine, up to a point, it's a stopping point for Wooly Jumper's Plastc trains, which is a big negative, & the Station does not make my 2006 Top Ten.

I saw The Who on Sunday. (They still totally rock, I never thought a 60+ year old could make windmilling look cool)

When they played "Who are you" the graphics on the big screen made me think of ol' Tikay.

It was a speeded up black and white train journey.

A camera was mounted on the front of the train, and we saw a speeded up journey, occasionaly cutting to a pic of the driver. Loads of stations and tunnels to get excited about.

I was more concerned with bouncing up and down trying not to land on people.

Paddington. History, family connections, the London pierhead of Brunel's mgnificent masterpiece, the GWR.

St Pancras. For sheer architectural majesty. The world's most beautiful Raliway Terminus.

Moscow Station, St Petersburg, Russia. most inaptyly named Station in Europe, except the Station in Moscow which is called....St Petersbrg Station. Because the train goes to St Petersburg.......

Helsinki Station. Jen & I spent a wondrous 2 hours there, & she let me sit in an express carriage for a while. I even drew the curtains.

Newcastle. One of several catherdral like stations on the GNER.

Edinburgh Waverley. Just awesome.

Manchester Piccadilly, though it's gone downhill.

Wootton Bassett Halt. Probably closed now, but childhood memories.

West Acton. So many happy memories.

Derby - so much to look at, always, the most eclectic collection of Locos & Rolling Stock in the UK.

I am struggling to keep it to 10, so many to choose from. Aldgate East, Hammersmith, Ealing Broadway, Fort William, Leeds, Penzance, Exeter St Davids, Swindon, Waterloo, Birmnigham Snow Hill, Bristol Temple Meads, Whatstandwell. Each have their own appeal, & hundreds more.

But for the worst, it has to be.....

Luton

Waterloo International

Birmingham New St

Birmingham NEC

Sheffield

Stafford

London Bridge

Kings Cross Thameslink

Shadwell (DLR)

Paris Gard Noir (spelt wong?)

That would be the famous London to Brighton (in 1 minute) film - I have it on tape somewhere.

The mosty interesting tube platform for me is Sloane Square, as not only did it used to have a pub on it, but it also has a river running through the top of it.

A pub? On a tube station? Wow.

As to the river, many Tube stations have subterranean watercourses running over, under, or alongside them, often yoi can hear the water, too. As one can at Shadwell &, I think, Whitechapel (East London Line platforms only).

Also love South Kensington, just because of the massive tunnel that goes directly from the station into the heart of museum-world.

Nemesis is right, the Euston platform I mentioned is at least twice as deep (from edge of platform to back wall) as any other, a real singular oddity.

I deffo think we need a Train Thread, sub-divided into Trains, Stations, Lines, & Platforms.

It's clear there is HUGE interest, particularly in Stations.

Why is the Euston (Tube) platform so "deep"? These "oddities" fascinate me.

They have a really weird "mini-signal" on two tracks (just 2, not all 4) at Whitechapel, which is really odd.

Has to be because of the fact that it is on the City line and that it is a major station for commuters.

I'll support the train thread if you also start a space-hopper thread. (My preferred method of transport)

The seem to be strange swings in the voting patterns.

Where's Peter Snow when you need him?

If you voted for choo choo, click on remove vote, then click on yes again.

You'll notice a strange swing. Ironside may or may not be.... a poll rigging fish.

And DO NOT call them "choo-choos". They are Locomotives. OK?

So, what's this about poll-rigging? Spill the beans, someone, please.

You say locomotive, images of early Kylie came to mind.

Not such a bad thing I suppose, so I suppose I can use that word.

Ironside clicked on edit poll, he deleted Yes and wrote no, deleted No and wrote yes.

Effectively swapping everyones vote.

The reason I suspect it was Ironside is the lack of capital letters in "yes" and "no" where a capital is present in the unedited "Maybe".
This coupled with his gloating when "no" appeared to be in front, paints a picture of guilt that it is impossible to ignore.

I say, let his wheels down.  ;yellowcard;  :D

Ironside the poll rigger.

Tank, start a new 'who's the biggest rigger' poll.

I can confirm that we do NOT have any deal with Party Poker for them to advertise on here.

However, if they want to vote "YES" on the Train Poll, I could be persuaded. How come I am offline for 24 hours & the anti-train lobby get the upper hand?

VOTE TRAINS

They haven't. Your administrator is bent...

What happens Claw?

I voted 'yes' originally, but when I removed my vote it came off the 'no' vote.  So, my refined skills of detection lead me to beleive that Ironside swapped some of the votes.  This is worse than the US Elections.

It doesn't take a genius to work out that our esteemed director of "entertainments" is as bent as a 2 bob note.
