Title: WSOP Main Event 2006 - Day 1d - Interactive Post by: Djinn on July 31, 2006, 08:15:18 PM OK Ladies and Gentlemen, back in the Press Room for one final day of searching for interesting stuff to tell you from the seething hordes of poker players.
We'll be travelling Snoopy-less for the first couple of levels, but me-less later, so it should balance out. A fair number of people you'll recognise are playing this start day - list coming shortly, just thought I'd let you know I'm here and haven't been distracted by the fresh popcorn stand. (Mmm, popcorn). The existing record of 72+odd hours is actually for STT play (which IMO must have been far easier) So Ron's will be the first official HU for the books. Title: Re: WSOP Main Event 2006 - Day 1d - Interactive Post by: Ginger on July 31, 2006, 09:36:32 PM He was setting a record, not breaking one. If I remember this rightly, it was Guinness that stated the 72 hours (I may be slightly wrong on that) but as I said that previous record was for an stt (far less mentally demanding)
Ron's attempt has been quite different in some respects, James was only allowed a break every for hours, whether he wanted it or not, Ron has been allowed hourly breaks, and even allowed to store them up to have a snooze! Not trying to take anything away from Ron at all, but if James had tried under the conditions that have be granted to Ron, I have no doubt in my mind that he would have made it. Title: Re: WSOP Main Event 2006 - Day 1d - Interactive Post by: I, Zimbra on July 31, 2006, 09:42:22 PM Yes, but if James was setting a record, rather than breaking one, then surely his 66 hours should be in Guinness... that's how I see it, anyway.
Keep the 72 hours in the STT category and then put Flush in as inaugural HU record holder. Thass'all I's sayin... Title: Re: WSOP Main Event 2006 - Day 1d - Interactive Post by: Ginger on July 31, 2006, 09:47:09 PM I agree wholeheartedly! as far as I'm concerned that is what should of happened, but if the attempt is set for 72 hours as a benchmark and you don't reach it, you failed, simple as that.
There were also other things that happened along the way, that may have made it not eligable (things we didn't know at the time) I would like to see him attempt it again one day, never though I would say that a year ago lol (it was hell) but with the right back-up I think he could take it. Good Luck all the Blondeites in today. Title: Re: WSOP Main Event 2006 - Day 1d - Interactive Post by: Djinn on July 31, 2006, 10:03:57 PM Ariston is OUT in the first level. Again. And steaming about it.
His chips were taken by a Pocket Aces Triple Whammy (in others' hands, not his). The first chunk went when he had 9d 9s and flopped a set, but the Ace on the flop also brought the Button with his Aspades Ac a set...lucky for him they both played slowly. Then, after someone had exposed an Ace while folding, and another guy dwelled in an "I have an Ace" sort of way before passing, Ariston found Kd Kh in the small blind. It folded to the button, who raised, Ariston re-raised, the third raise came and before you could say, "10,000 chips" it was all in the middle. Button man had th other two Aces again, and that was basically that. Not a happy chappy, and probably avoiding the poker tables for the rest of today. The world poker endurance record is 72hrs 3minutes, there is no such record for HU play. The record was set by a guy playing a ring game of 7CS. We did not sumbit to create a new record catergory for HU play as its a rip off and our aim was to make the most amount of money for charity, and so didn't bother. I don't know whether Ron's attempt is one for the Guinness book of records, i imagine it isn't given that he slept for 30 Min's in the middle of it (unless they changed the rules then that is a big no no) In any case, i know what Ron has gone through and would like to congratulate him on making it through 72hrs. Well done mate! Title: Re: WSOP Main Event 2006 - Day 1d - Interactive Post by: Ukgatsby on July 31, 2006, 10:31:26 PM Vul Ariston,

His news so far: got down to 7,000 after running QQ into KK on a Jack-high flop, then, first hand after the break, he picked up the wonderful 3c 6h on the big blind. The button had flat called the 100, and when the flop came 3 4 6 he bet 500. The button called.
Turn: J He bet 1,000, the button called. River: Q He bet 1,000, the button called. With his Aces... I would have been here slightly earlier, but Mr Georgos Salvador of Greece (not Athens, as I found out) decided to take one of those infamous short-cuts. "This way's quicker, misses out all of those traffic lights" 14 traffic lights later, and we'd almost arrived. One problem - wrong carpark! By the time we'd reached the Rio Convention Centre, the fee was $9.65 - over two dollars more than the $7.20 it normally costs. Wow, I am mesmorised by Georgos' knowledge of short-cuts. And how about this for a conversation. Georgos: Have you been to Japan. snoopy: No, but I'd like to. Georgos: I'm going there next week. snoopy: Oh yeah, how come? Georgos: For the pussy. Nice! If that last comment is slightly gruesome for the average reader, then please feel free to moderate the moderator, but I thought I'd just share my moment of cringeworthy taxi-man disgust. They're not all like that you know, he was the exception... eew Title: Re: WSOP Main Event 2006 - Day 1d - Interactive Post by: snoopy1239 on July 31, 2006, 11:54:36 PM Meanwhile, I have been reliably informed (I hope) by a William Hill's guy, that Xuyen 'Bad Girl' Pham is stacked up after dodging a set versus set all-in predicament - quads on the river

If you can get close enough, wish him "good luck from Alan Lake, from the Fox". Thanks and keep up the good work. Alan Is this your man? If so (or even if not) he has 5,000. They're not all like that you know, he was the exception... eew I didn't realise that Japan was so well known for cat breeding. Bradley raises to 600, MB makes it 12,000, and the Big Blind calls. The dealer collects the chips before being reminded that Ian still needs to call. Ian does indeed call, but folds to the Big Blind's bet on a 4h 4s 8s 2d board after all three had checked the raggy flop. Interestingly, he always bets 2 x the big blind, whatver the level. I guess that's so people can never get a read on you, or maybe he just wants to keep pots small pre-flop. She's on the edge and there appear to be quite a few spectators railing her, so I inquired into what happened. Apparantly, and remember my source isn't necessarily the most reliable, she hit a one outer. A-A v A-J, all-in on a J-J-rag flop, Ace on the Turn. pheweee "Keep the MILF in!" I say Title: Re: WSOP Main Event 2006 - Day 1d - Interactive Post by: snoopy1239 on August 01, 2006, 05:42:17 AM Peter Costa raises to 700 preflop, Mateyboy calls on the button.
Both check the J-8-3 rainbow flop, and the 5 Turn. River brings a Queen and, as I thought he would, Peter bets out 1.3k. Mateyboy calls and Peter mucks, so no hands seen. I'm not sure I would have bet this river, if you've checked the flop and turn, then it's clear you don't have an overpair. Also, many would bet the turn with a hand like A-Q. What would worry me is that many players consider A-Q and Q-K preflop calling hands, so I reckon it's too easy for them to have such a hand and thereofre not worth betting the River. Peter may have been trying a value bet with a pocket pair, but I don't think so because he mucked so quickly. I think if he was going to try and take this pot, the bet should have come on the Turn. Just my opinion, I'm no expert, but an interesting one I thought. Either way, The Poet's down to 28,325, but still running strong. ... and it's a Mateyboy cubed! I didn't join it til the flop, but I'm pretty sure that MB#1 (in the middle with the green shirt) limped under the gun with Pocket Aces. MB#2 (Asian fellow with red cap) must have made up the small blind... ... and MB#3 (standing up in the second picture) must have checked. Flop = Th 5h 7d MB#2 checks, MB#3 moves all-in for just 2 or 3 thousand, and MB#1 makes it a chunky 9,000. When it gets backround to MB#2 in the small blind, he thinks for a good couple of minutes before moving all-in for an extra 5,800. So, decision back on MB#1 with his Pocket Rockets. "What you got?" "Is that a Hollywood move?" "You could so easily have the flush draw" "You took 4 minutes to makes that move" zzzzzzzzzzzzzz Anyhow, he finally made the call and flipped over his Bullets? MB#2 showed Td 7s for top 2 pair whilst MB#3 (who was all-in on the big blind) meekly shows the rather vulnerable Ts 4h Turn = 8h River = 6h The T-7 stands up against the Aces, but not against the T-4, which made a backdoor flush, thereby keeping the shortstack in the comp. Crikey. Phew, did you manage to follow all that? I'm afraid not. That's us done with this World Series. Due to a lack of man power, financial resources and media access, we've decided not to continue. We do not wish to provide low quality updates whilst also becoming slightly wary about our own health. Imagine playing for 6 days straight, no spare time, straight home, straight to bed, and straight back to the Rio in the morning. Well try that with your feet on the go all day and you'll get an idea of how much it would be asking. If we continued with just Jen and myself, it would be the death of us. This is my first encounter with not just Vegas, but the World Series of Poker too and, although it's possibly been the toughest 2 or 3 weeks in my working life, it's also been the most enjoyable. Watching all those hands, meeting so many new people, rubbing shoulders with the stars, and getting to take an innocent peek at all those beautiful women. It's not something that any man should moan about, especially a heterosexual poker fanatic! So, allow me to take this opportunity to thank both tikay and Dave C for sending me here and Jen for being my blonde update partner, not to mention all the blondeites who tuned in. If you wish to continue following the Series in an interactive manner, then may I recommend that you visit the two Irish lads at antesup.com (http://www.antesup.com) Stick a fork in me. I'm done! I reckon I would have joined the legions of the undead about a week ago were it not for the hardest working blondeite I know, Snoopy1239.
The adamant refusal to repeat the Main Event updates at all after last year was only weakened and snapped because I knew I could rely on the beagle when it got tough. Tough it got; rely I did. He never let up or blonde down. Thanks for watching, y'all, back in Europe - having you ask questions which make us run round the room is what makes this job fun and ultimately rewarding. Title: Re: WSOP Main Event 2006 - Day 1d - Interactive Post by: DeVore on August 01, 2006, 11:27:08 PM I'll miss goofing around with Snoops and Jen in the Media room too. I'll try and get you guys updates if you want to ask on Antesup.com but theres one of me and I have 22 Paddys to cover too! But I am happy to go get specific counts if you give me a name and a table/seat number.
The way they treat the non-corporate media here is a disgrace. I dunno if we'll come next year except that not one irish name would be mentioned by the star struck CrapPlayer and ESPN. Jen, if you are back in Vegas before you fly home, stick your head in the media room. I'll be the corpse near the door! DeV. Title: Re: WSOP Main Event 2006 - Day 1d - Interactive Post by: Fatboydim on August 02, 2006, 12:01:16 AM Damn - shame you have to take an early bath. maybe all the UK and Irish Skins on Tribeca and Crypto [even stars] Should sort out something for next year so that we get this kind of service. Obviously my first port of call is Antes Up because they cover Irish players... But as I talk what like you lot do I have a few mates in the UK I follow too. And lets not pretend that we don't play sites on other networks. Great Job Jen and Snoops... Hope to see you soon.
