The draw is at midday and they'll send emails out at 8.

probably because most of the APAT people have full time jobs thus the emails get sent when home from work etc

Me neither...  Feel a bit hard done by to be honest!  Ten quid and I don't make the reserve list to the only event thats economical to attend and entry into a bunch of private $22 online MTTs with so called amateurs like Purr of Aces.... What are the other advantages of APAT?  I won't be renewing I doubt..

Nope no problems, fair credit to the guy if pokers not his main income he must have a helluva job and time to be on $120k+ a year and have time for online poker

Not exactly great game selection is it though when there are loads of other $22s about

I have no problem with him being a part of this don't get me wrong here.  I just view it as a tenner down the drain since I can play $22 multis anyway without signing up for this (ok the $10k added for the PCA seat at the end of season is an extra $10 or so in equity).  I'm just bitter though. :ironside:

just goes to show how fair and honest the draw was (not that i ever doubt it would be), i know the apat committee better than probably 90% of apat members and i never got a seat or a reserve place.

fair play guys and good luck to all that were successful hopefully i will get a chance to play in the future apat events.

And APAT's 2006  amateur champion is Tony Bloom after all poker is not his main source of income. Wonder what kind of final table I could come up with which whilst ultimately fitting the defination and able to play in the APAT comps yet would project a negative image as anything but a amatuer/recreational event.  ;goodvevil;

I did raise the point if someone who makes a big profit wins any of the events that this will surely have a negative perception to many. People can say "is there anything wrong with successful amateurs being part of the APAT and he's a bookie by day and therefore qualifies" but the fact is many may decide not to join if they feel the entrants are ringers. Who's to say if someone is a ringer or not, it's upto the APAT to decide who plays and many will defended $100k winners to play as they are merely just successful amatuer. Then again many will view differently and will vote by not signing up.

Agreed, unfortunately I didn't read up on it before hand and probably wouldnt have put the tenner into the raffle if I knew what sort of field I was up against.  That Jamie Gold eh, what a successful amateur

exactly people have the choice whether to join or not.

a number of people that are members of the apat are successful amateurs on or offline including myself and to a bigger extent rookieitb but that doesnt mean we shouldnt enter. we both have other incomes.

its just like saying if you are constantly losing money fine u can join but if win ever then your not wanted.

what happens to the winner of the first apat event? is he barred from future events for being successful?

He's earning as much as a professional online tournament player can expect to make yet is still considered amateur for the APAT just because he has another bigger income.  Does that not seem a bit wrong to anyone else but me?

Title: Re: APAT Brum Are you going???
Post by: totalise on September 04, 2006, 10:58:56 PM
lol @ all this crying over a tenner.... its not like you pay a tenner just to get in the draw!

Diceman,

it seems that your ideal APAT tournament is full of people that have never seen a deck of cards in their life, something that gives you maximum chance of winning an EPT seat.

good luck to all that got a seat, am sure you will have a great time, despite the obvious travesty of people that win at poker playing in the tournament.

Title: Re: APAT Brum Are you going???
Post by: M3boy on September 04, 2006, 11:00:47 PM
I Knew there would be trouble  ;goodvevil;

Like someone said , the APAT definition of an amateur poker player would include MOST professional players - as they have "other" incomes , would it not?

I am not saying its good or bad - just sitting on the fence.

What happens to the unlucky person who NEVER gets picked out in this lottery format? Do you think they will remain a member? Probably not. Will it matter? No because there willl be many others who will want to join.

Does APAT have a ceiling on the number of members?

Are future events going to be "run" in the same way? - I see major problems if they are as the number of members is always going to INCREASE!

Maybe a better idea would be to stage these comps in different areas of the country, and only members within a certain catchment area could enter - would this work? I dont know, but probably not.

Do I have an answer? NO

Am I bitter and twisted that I wasnt picked? NO. A little disapointed but nothing to rant on about.

Finally, good luck to all Blonde's that were picked at random.

I don't have an answer to that but I think the name needs to be reconsidered since basically anyone can join.  Who IS considered a professional?  Nearly every professional has incomes aside from poker!

Anyway, agree to disagree and all that.  GL to everyone in the event

If I knew I was arguing with one of the committee members I wouldn't have even started, talk about drawing dead pre.

I don't mind about the tenner mate, i'll stay a member and see how things pan out.

I'm impressed  :goodpost:

Who IS considered a professional?  Nearly every professional has incomes aside from poker!

I think the list is Totalise, Red-Dog and myself......

Is the Paul King on the list the same Paul King who is a regular on the European Circuit?

Paul lives in Northampton ... unlucky flushy.  try and think of another way to stir it up..

So that would be a no then?

lol @ all this crying over a tenner.... its not like you pay a tenner just to get in the draw!

Diceman,

it seems that your ideal APAT tournament is full of people that have never seen a deck of cards in their life, something that gives you maximum chance of winning an EPT seat.

good luck to all that got a seat, am sure you will have a great time, despite the obvious travesty of people that win at poker playing in the tournament.

Thank you for making your false assumption because I have never said anything like that. Does make me laugh how people like to attribute points of views to others when not actually true. Firstly I have played against far more profitable players than the guy who won the first event and personally I am never been put off by playing anybody. Infact I have enjoyed many a MTT against professional poker players. But then again if it's more convenient for you to make false assumptions go for it.

What I have done is question the impact of such a player and how this may effect the creditability of what the APAT stands for. People can indeed choose to play or not but it has already been remarked upon by several people that they are unhappy with such a profitable player winning in a so called amateur/recreational event. As a result some people have subsequently stated that they will not join or continue to support the APAT in the future.

Just because I dare to suggest such a winner may effect future membership doesn't mean I want it to be "full of people that have never seen a deck of cards in their life and something that gives me maximum a chance of winning an EPT seat" so what gives you the right to make such an assumption. Personally it doesn't effect me one bit who plays in the APAT events for I shall NOT be joining under any circumstances even if it is limited to my so called dream of just "fish". I won't be joining because whilst I would like to play the live events it's a lottery and I'd rather spend my £10 down the pub. I know the £10 allows me to play the online comps but as these are on a Saturday night I have little chance to play them as Saturday is a social night. The only other reason for me to join would be to have a voice but my view is that any changes will take place with or without me.

I look forward to seeing my view somehow being twisted and adopt some other meaning I haven't actually expressed.

Me neither...  Feel a bit hard done by to be honest!  Ten quid and I don't make the reserve list to the only event thats economical to attend and entry into a bunch of private $22 online MTTs with so called amateurs like Purr of Aces.... What are the other advantages of APAT?  I won't be renewing I doubt..

just out of intrest who is this?

Congrtatulations to the successful members

Hard luck to those not selected

to answer a few questions on this thread:

about 600 people were in the draw

Purr of Aces is Des Morris, from Manchester

Event 2 onwards will be first come first served, no more random ballots. This was a one off due to cicumstances

APAT has covered in great detail the other advantages of being a member in the very very very long Launch thread on this page Rupert. If you are not happy with what you read, PM me and I can talk to you

We are actively sourcing venues that can accomodate more runners. I found one such at the weekend that could in theory hold 700 runners. So progress is being made there

Any people with problems paying for their seat. contact me. (not for money but if your preferred payment is not an option!)

I cant believe im reading this ....

If you got a seat, CONGRATS.

If you didnt, unlucky.

If you didnt get a seat and you are crying like a bitch ...take a good long look at yourself and think how you are coming across to everyone reading this thread.

what was that saying ??  something about pleasing some of the people ...

I could not agree more.

I'm in and really looking forward to the event.

I cannot understand all the negativity about the apat.  This is new and different for poker and something that we as players have needed for a long time.  It will be a learning process and things will be need to be tinkered with as we go along.  Feedback is crucial to make the apat successful, but it needs to be constructive and presented in a positive manner.

Good luck to all blondes who are in & see you at the Broadway.

Also has anyone else had trouble with the payment link or is it just me?

Thanks for this.

Will event 2 be done as "fastest finger first"?  And at what time will this be?  This may place some members at a disadvantage due to connection speeds or not being able to access the site at that time.  What about the possiblity of members who were not selected for event 1 being seeded for event 2 and future events to allow all members equal access to the live events.

Not got a seat so a bit gutted as the structure looks great and I've never played at Broadway before, oh well Good luck to those who got in.

Anyone know where the next couple of heats will be held?

I assume a draw for those seats as well (Downside of being popular I guess is no cardroom is large enough to hold a APAT event).

How it holds 700 for a start, i doesn't appear very big at all.
I know they played the Nations cup thingy downstairs with a comp upstairs a while back but there were only a handful of tables downstairs.
They have around 10-14 tables upstairs now and maybe could squeeze a few more in but we are talking 70 tables!!!
Also parking is a nightmare and there are no hotels near.

I still don't see why you can't do multiple day 1's, surely that will sort this out?

Title: Re: APAT Brum Are you going???
Post by: TightEnd on September 05, 2006, 10:21:21 AM
I put a dress and tights on but sadly my attempt to pass as a "ladyyyyyyyy" failed, so I recce'd the place instead

Nevertheless, its a huge place on 3 floors and I am assured they can hold 700, all dealer dealt, by using the restaurant floor

There is also a big car park and several hotels in the centre of Brum about 5 mins drive away

Multiple day 1s has been suggested....the issue is our players having to take weekdays off work..but not insurmountable

Every tournament might not need to have multiple day 1's if there's another way of sorting out the registration, but I would have thought that the UK, European and World Championships were going to be bigger events, So I think if people were in these tournaments they would be able to justify (to themselves at least) taking time off work.

The original cardroom when built is now the nightspot used at weekends for gigs and parties, this is where the nations cup was held IFM. That room can hold 70 poker tables on the two levels with a tv table on stage. When Star City opened this was purpose built as the main cardroom and would have been fantastic. Own Bar, spacious etc but it was detached from the pit area, which defeats the object in a casino. When you walk past reception keep on same lavel and take your first right into the room. I got a hard on when I saw it as a cardroom, unfortunately I hated the place itself so made a quick exit and lasted 2 days there :D

The ladies event was capped at 700 unfortunately only 108 turned up, so I believe (although I am not sure) it was held in the usual cardroom facilities?

I agree with Rod, ...a victim of its own success, but a solution has to be sorted so that all those who aspire to play on the  live tour are given a" poker chance"....whether it be online qualification or several live day 1s .
