available via the link, together with the news that due to the extra demand from people in the queue when the cut off for entries occurred we secured extra capacity with the venue up to 220 runners If you think you should be on the list, but aren't or there are any queries please email customer@apat.com to go on the reserve list, which will be done in date order, email tournament@apat.com Title: Re: APAT Wales Player List and Player briefing Post by: KingPoker on January 30, 2007, 01:49:35 AM how the hell is there room for 220 runners in there. I just cant believe it!
Title: Re: APAT Wales Player List and Player briefing Post by: ericstoner on January 30, 2007, 10:33:42 AM That's it all done.
Checked player list, yep on. got my room at the acoor hotal, (£32 per night double, £2.95 brekkie) bring it on. 220 odd runners, nice game of sardines to be had, The ITB crew staying at the same hotal (drunkeness assured) Finally, I know its gonna be a fun WELL RUN, safe, friendly, and hopfully profitable tournement.* *For the above,I have to thank the APAT crew (Des Tikay Mel and Richard), Grovesnor casinos and their Cardiff employees, and all the other players who are giving the weekend a go. After all the chatter and reams of foram winging, Professionally run poker tournements seem to be with as now. Happy days are here again!!!!!!! Title: Re: APAT Wales Player List and Player briefing Post by: Rozza1 on January 30, 2007, 01:30:00 PM Does the additional entrants mean we will be starting 11 handed?
Title: Re: APAT Wales Player List and Player briefing Post by: tikay on January 30, 2007, 01:57:53 PM Does the additional entrants mean we will be starting 11 handed? Yes, I'm sorry to say, it will. "Sorry"? I explain thus. I personally don't agree with, or like, 11 to a table, & it's one of the things I want to see an end of. But these things are never that straightforward, & we faced an extraordinary demand for seats on Saturday evening. So we made a snap decision, "OK, whats the lesser of two evils, turning away another 40 players who were aching to play, stick to our guns & say nope, 10 to a table it is, sorry, we are sold out?", or, "well, this is difficult, but these guys wanna play badly, let's make an exception & go 11 to a table". We decided on the latter. It was my decision, & my decision alone, so if I got it wrong, so be it, but sometimes one has to compromise for the greater good, & that was the course of action I decided upon. My position as Chairman will be voted on in August, & I need to make decisions which I think are for the greater good of the Members. The Members will decide, at the right time, if I am doing a good job on their behalf, or not, & decisons like this one will be in their minds. In point of fact, without going into the details of our deal with Grosvenor, the more runners we get, the more money it costs APAT, so the decison was not money-driven, it was Member-driven. Where will we put 20 Tables? I must say, Irene & Sean at Grosvenor Cardiff have been absolutely marvellous in working with us to help make this a great weekend. Irene has suggested we use 20 Tables, being 12 in the Main Arena, & 4 + 4, (or 5+3) in the Bar Area & Restaurant Area. The Final will be in the Bar Area, so we can accommodate the Railers, of whom we get a great number in APAT Events. So there you have it, warts & all. It ill be "cosy" for the first 2 or 3 levels, but as players bust out, we will immediately revert to 10 to a table. Not ideal, we know, but with demand so high, I felt we needed to look at this as an exceptional case. A little discomfort for the first 2 or 3 hours seems a small price to pay to allow 40 extra members to play the Event. In Season Two, we will resolve this in a number of ways, but there is not much we can do about it in Season One, so we just need to get on with it. We will, as usual, do everything we can to make it a very special weekend for the APAT members, many of whom are making their Live "debut". I am utterly confident we will achieve that goal, as I think we we did in Birmingham & Newcastle. The APAT Team will work hard to make sure everyone has a grand time. The APAT guarantee! Title: Re: APAT Wales Player List and Player briefing Post by: taximan007 on January 30, 2007, 02:07:34 PM Just like to add my thoughts to this:
Nice to see the "members" being considered for once (i mean that in general not the APAT); i am sure the extra 40 being accommodated are more than grateful for being to able to play in the tournament. Its all to easy for people to knock organisers, committees etc, but as in all walks of life there are those "that do" and those who "just like to moan". My opinion for what its worth (not much i know) is that Tikay should be supported for his decision. Title: Re: APAT Wales Player List and Player briefing Post by: tikay on January 30, 2007, 02:08:55 PM Just like to add my thoughts to this: Nice to see the "members" being considered for once (i mean that in general not the APAT); i am sure the extra 40 being accommodated are more than grateful for being to able to play in the tournament. Title: Re: APAT Wales Player List and Player briefing Post by: Rozza1 on January 30, 2007, 02:12:27 PM I've got no problem with starting 11 handed, more the merrier i say plus it boosts the prizepool. I will just make sure to wear lots of deodrant lol See you in Cardiff! And well done to all involved in organising the event.

Ks KingPoker Ks As I said, it's a compromise, & I felt it was the right thing to do in the circumstsances. Many Members wll be disappointed, but we needed to look at the wider picture. But it's NOT 11 handed all the way, we revert to 10 handed as the players exit, so some tables will go 10 handed within the first hour, & all of them within 2 or 3 levels I imnagine. That's not the end of the world, I don't think. Ks KingPoker Ks It's certainly not ideal as it IMO takes away a fair amount of room for creative play early doors, but fully understand why the APAT have done this. My only concern for this would be with the 11 handed tables the chance of more 'creative' play drops. As this is the case would the blind structure get tweeked a little to accomodate for this? I am sure the inclusion of a couple of levels like a 150/300 would be a fair shout. I am sure 90% of the players would not complain in playing till 2-3am if that meant more play. I know i would not :) Anyway just my 2 cents on it 7c 2h Title: Re: APAT Wales Player List and Player briefing Post by: TightEnd on January 30, 2007, 03:17:53 PM Tilkay My only concern for this would be with the 11 handed tables the chance of more 'creative' play drops. As this is the case would the blind structure get tweeked a little to accomodate for this? I am sure the inclusion of a couple of levels like a 150/300 would be a fair shout. I am sure 90% of the players would not complain in playing till 2-3am if that meant more play. I know i would not :) Anyway just my 2 cents on it 7c 2h Interesting point. Structure previously has been 25-50, 50-100, 75-150, 100-200, 200-400 on a 40 minute clock I'll mention it to the team. Cheers Did anything come from this?? I'm bringing my cheerleading squad (mum and dad) down for the weekend too so I would assume they can fill their details out on Friday as well?
I've never been to Cardiff and want to make the most of the weekend after I've busted out early again. Any recommendations of local attractions/decent pubs? 1) They bay is gorgeus. You go down there in the summer when the evenings are long and drink the night away in the ouside bars. 2) Fair enough bout the futura Inn- but what about out millennium centre and numerous other beautiful art and artitecture. 3) And if you think derbyshire is nice, come up the Brecon Beacons with me and climb to the top of pen-y-fan and tell me its not the most breathtaking view you have ever seen. If the wind doesnt doesnt blow you clean off the side! Wales is the most naturally beautiful countries in the world. There. That will do for now! im sure i will have to rebuttle some more in a few cinical posts time! And those pics are of the magic roundabout. A very good place for picking up prozzies after the sun has set (i have been told!) I was in uni there for 3 years, hope to go back agin but to the different uni in a couple of years to do medicine, it has everything i need, completely different to my home home whcih is well in the sticks (Beautiful but nothing here to do apart from drink and hunt!). And then main reason being of course it is home to my casino. Which from march onwards i will be frequenting a lot more to try and make some $$$'s.
And its where me and the missus met! (even tho our home homes are around only 15 minutes apart i never knew her before!) But i suppose thats the only bad one i can think of! Might actualy start venturing over the border towards the summer time to a few english tourneys. Meet the old timers!
