Eck is breathing deeply, looking perplexed and thinking "how on earth have I got this far?"

or at least that is what it seems like

in truth he caught a break when getting massive action with his AA and is probably second chip leader now behind Starrs

Interview with Eck

TE: "So Eck, how do you feel right now?"

Eck "Still very nervous, I have been shaking for the last twenty minutes"

TE "Is this the biggest poker game you have been in then?"

Eck "It is only my second ever live event"

TE "Really?"

Eck "Yes I only took poker up 18 months ago, I played a blonde bash and now this"

TE "Tell us about the final table so far"

Eck "my biggest hand was me raising on button to 40/- with Jc9c. BB called, flop 8 5 2. He bets out 40/-. I called. I didn't think he had much. Turn Ace. He checked, I represented it, he passed. I then breathed out!!"

TE" Well played."

Eck "only if he passes! apart from that it has been small pots wherever possible and blind on blind battles for me"

TE "Plan from here?"

Eck "just take it as it comes. I have position on the big stack and he is desperate to win the trophy. I think I can take advantage of this"

TE "Good luck, a lot of blondes are ecking egging you on. "

Eck, "thanks"

HU has been dramatic and see-saw with the pokergods turning against Eck

Phil regained the chip lead by constant aggression until all the money went in pre

Phil had K9, Eck 10 10

flop K K 9!

this left eck with 85/- out of the 1.3m in play and visibly shaken. Nervous all day he was tantalising close to victory until that flop

Eck then outdrew QQ with 10 5, two 5s on the board to double up, did so again and then lost the final hand with an up and down straight draw against top pair flopped. He missed

Eck therefore finishes second and the Scottish Amateur Poker Champion is Phil Starrs from Whitburn

Gutted to see Eck didn't win, he really deserved to, I met him on the first table and when he told me today he had been nervous all along I was amazed as he seemed very in control in the early stages.  Never scared to raise with bugger all.:)

Can i say I had a fantastic time in my first proper tournament and a lot of that was because of the many Blondes I met over the weekend.  Lovely people one and all. :respect:  think I will need to look into one of these Blonde bashes sometime. ;letsparty;

Just home from the tourney having railed Eck and my mate Stevie P.

Very well played Eck, and as we discussed, can't believe Phil risked all his chips on a K9 after you had pushed with the 10's.

Great to meet you and hopefully we'll get together again soon.

Top man.

Geo

It was my first APAT event and most enjoyable it was too. Must be by far the friendliest event in the UK and the best organised. It was great meeting all the Blonde's including DanDan, Dewi,  Des and loads more

Thanks for all the encouragement folks it was very much appreciated. Didn't have much expectations for my 2nd live event so would have been happy with second before it began. But getting HU slightly in front and i knew he was so desparate just for the trophy i thought this might give me an edge. He actually offered in a deal all the cash if he could get the trophy i just wanted him to confirm this before i told him no deal (i know flushy will be disgusted but hey ho not playing for 2 days to throw it HU)

Chilling now with a glass of wine as was driving today and getting a bit hyper after my fourteenth can of irn-bru!!

thanks again, and Horneris I will totally understand if you want to substitute me in the HU, otherwise you'll have to do it on yer own again. But i will buy the beers tho

Just want to say a special thank you to the blondes in Edinburgh. Dan Dan and Ed sorry i missed you before you had to go but thanks for the nice message on my ciggies packet. Cheers to Bain and harmony we had a very enjoyable few beers discussing the "quite average canyon"  rotflmfao (you had to be there)

Great to meet Mickyp, great fun at the table, ImMrchips, GeotheSarge, all glasgow contingent Laz (I never get any cards!! alright i had aces but they don't count cause it was the first round), Teacake, Billy (newmanseye), Scottm for the first time (hard luck mate you were looking good and playing really well, thought you were going to go the distance) and also Laz's bro unfortunately didn't get much of a chance to have a chat, but hopefully will get another chance, if the invite for the home game is still open I might have a few more brownie points after handing over the prize money when i got home.

Nice to meet the previous winners  ;tightend; ;tightend; Kinboshi and JJandellis (if only i could play HU), also Glorious. Didn't really get a chance (proberly cause i'm not the greatest at introducing myself) to Sherrif and Mel ( Tikay only realised i was a blonde when we down to about 20)

Finally a huge thanks to tighty, Tikay and Des for a superb weekend had a blast and can't wait to see most of you in Luton and please don't take the piss when it's on the telly  ;hide; sure if forgotten loads but more wine is calling and might even think about playing some more tonight (ffs do i have a problem!!)

Congrats to Phil and unlucky Eck (not that I know who u are sorry), a crazy harsh way to lose.

Thanks to Des, Tighty and Tikay for putting on another great event.  I think we all appreciate immensley the work you guys put in, not just on the day but in the weeks and months preceeding.

A point aside, apologies I had to get away Des, Ill be honoured to help out next event.

One point for next time, can you make sure you invite the Scottish popstar wannabe guy again, hes not my cup of tea, but if he brings his girlfriend along again Ill be a happy man indeed - Des I am expecting some crafty pic coverage, dont let the side down!!!

Well done to Phil and Eck.  Just completed my six hour drive home and have stopped steaming after donating all my chips on a steal 5 minutes into the final table!!

What a donk after 2 days hard work.

Roll on dublin.  Thanks again especially to kinboshi and jjangelis for their support over the 2 days and thanks for a place to crash last night lee.

Des Tighty and TK are really building something special here

Spooky corner::

Wales knocked out the bubble with pocket aces
Scotland knocked out the bubble with aces

Final table. Wales a massive all in battle first hand knocks a player out
               Scotland ditto

Wales finish 8th
Scotland 8th

surreal!!!

Just got back from Edinburgh and want to say a big thanks to all the APAT team who worked tirelessly to put on an excellent event.

I thought the venue was super they really looked after us with great dealers, staff and buffet! Oh and a dice table which was a bonus.  ;whistle;

Played with some v.nice folks, hats off to duncthehat, he really steam roller-ed the first table I was on, never really knew where I was so tried to stay out off his way. He really deserved a big cash and was v.unlucky to have the B.B. wake up with a monster.

Played the £20 rb in the evening at the Maybury (10th  :( ) where I had to endure a nice "are you bullying me chant" when I went all in  Ad Jd, only for the main event winner to turn over  Aspades Ahrt  :dontask:

Highlight had to be the crazy sng, where we had to keep getting told to keep quiet as we were having too much fun!!

Thanks again to Tikay, Tighty and Des, my conclusion is that for players who can't afford big buyin tournies (me) this is such an excellent event, it provides a real benchmark for your longer game and personally I have taken alot from it, watch out in the next one!!

Just got back from Edinburgh after a top weekend.

Big thanks to Des, Tikay & Richard for yet another fantastic event.  Also thanks to Gala for looking after us so well, the staff & dealers were excellent and the buffet was top notch.

I went out 22nd in the end.  I had a playable stack but got moved to the table of death with chips everywhere, every pot was getting raised early and I couldn't find a spot to get my chips in first.  Eventually I found AK in the SB and all fold to me and I push (actually I had only seen the king and decided they had to go in).  MickyP was in the BB with only a few thousand more than me and made a brave call with pocket 3's.  No help and I was out, good call mate.  Absolutely gutted to go out.  I felt I played really well all day, I had laid down some big hands and kept my patience when things were not going so well.  No complaints.

Returned on Sunday to rail the final.  Well played Eck, so unlucky with the K9 insta call by the champion for all his chips.  Well done to Mr Starrs for a great performance.  I feel the standard of APAT events is getting better all the time, it was a real grind on Saturday and some top poker was played.  Must tell everyone about the play of the tournament by Kinboshi.  All fold to button who raises the standard amount.  Dan is the SB and goes into the tank for several minutes before flat calling.  The flop is jack high rainbow and Dan bets out, the button quickley puts him all in for his tournament.  Again he goes into the tank and folds pocket queens face up... the button showed pocket aces, amazing fold.  My chips would have been in so fast pre flop,  but thats why he is the English champ and I'm not.  Amazing play mate.

The APAT goes from strength to strength.  The atmosphere is truely unique and the tournaments are so much fun to play.  I cannot wait till Ireland, see you all in Dublin.

I know I am going on a bit now, but a quick quiz question to end with.

Q:  How does a 10 player SNG freezeout with a £10 buy in end up with a total prize fund of £290???

Answers on a postcard...

Talk about moving goal posts!  Cracking fun - especially my nines turning a set on the turn to Tikay's paired ace.  Wasn't the last time he was 'knocked out' - but like Lazarus, you can't keep a good man down.

A big Thank You to everyone who attended the weekend's Scottish Amateur Poker Championship. It was a success because the players, dealers, Manager (Ally Myles), Des & Tighty, all made it so. Enormous fun!

I am afraid I was a little under the weather all weekend, so a special thank you to Tighty & Des for carrying a passenger this time.

As for the crazy SNG, the £10 thing that made £290, I can officially confirm that Compo is a lucky fish.

Here's to next time!

Well, another APAt event, and another success, well done to our Tikay, Des & Rich and of course the staff at the venue.

I have to say that i am proud of Harmony for putting in a sterling performance, her 4th live event in a field of 130 good players led to 34th place finish.  She even held her own against the eventual winner and his "Speech play".  As for me, well, for once i go in ahead and come out behind but i did get pass the dinner break this time, so i am improving.

A big round of applause goes to "Eck", what a performance by the man, and even when fortune dealt that blow, he was determined to fight his way back into it.  We can all learn a great deal from him.

And to all the Blondes we met, some for the first time, it was great to meet up and Harmony and i are really looking forward to BB4.

As for the Sunday SNG (?), well, compo hit his runner-runner-runner-runner to win, but well done to him.  The Fish

Cheers to Bain and harmony we had a very enjoyable few beers discussing the "quite average canyon"  rotflmfao (you had to be there)

Have to admit that i don't normally drink, but it was a ruddy good time, but you forgot about -

"Stubbed toe valley"

"The Hoover dam, a big drop well made"

All the best to you and Debbie.

See you all in Dublin....

Really? I do apologise. I was actually rather unwell, but had been obliged to go up there to do some filming for Poker Week with Dave Compton.

The entire 3 hours we were there - walking up & down those steep ramparts, paved with the unevenest bumpiest cobbles ever seen, was a nightmare for me, & I was very out of sorts with myself.  I dread to think how bad the Filmed stuff will look, I was not at all with it.

Anyway, no offence intended, & I do apologise.

I would just like to say a real big thank you to the APAt team, Tikay, Des and Tighty, for putting together yet another brilliant tournament for APAt members, this time in Edinburgh.  'Twas a great event, fine venue and location and the APAt team and Casino staff did a fine job of having things run very smoothly for us players, giving us such a fine opportunity to play a deepstack tourney like this. It was my first APAt event in which I played and, though very nervous, I really enjoyed myself and settled into it. I have to say that I am very pleased with my play and outcome and especially dealing with the speech play fired at me.  Now I have come home and am itching to play again!

It was great to meet up with "old" friends once more (Tikay, Des, Richard, Mel, Sheriff and Dewi), and wonderful to make new friends (Hazel and John, Steve and Margaret [first met at Newcastle but without exchanging names!], JayCBee1 [welcome to Blonde from Bainn and myself, thank you for your kind words, and it was interesting to be on the eventual winner's table for most of the first day, was it not?!  We three were the surviving members of the original line-up on that table, before we were moved!] and Glenn, [glad my chips helped!] and Philip who took me out but was a real gentleman about it!), and especially put faces to names on the fora and get to know people better! So glad to meet you all especially,  Digger (thank you for your kind words, but beware, next time...! Bet you are quaking in your boots now...!), ThinkerJE, mickyp, Foggy and Jean (sorry I missed you to say goodbye), DanDan (good to actually chat and trust you will be able to make a future BB!), Compo, Kinboshi and Michelle, JJandellis, Geo the Sarge and Glorious. If I have forgotten anyone, or got their name wrong, I do apologise.

It was great to meet Eck and watch this guy play so very well in only his 2nd live game.  What a player and what a real good guy - Bainn and I thorougholy enjoyed meeting you and look forward to seeing you again and meeting Debbie soon at BB4.

Also, what a family the Blonde forum is... I am thrilled and proud to be a part of it all.

I have to say that I had the most amazing SNG on Sunday night -  a real madcap, interesting and fun game!  Rounded a wonderful w/e off very well! Thank you folks!

I would also just like to thank those who railed from afar, in particular our good friends, Brendan, and Kevin and Karen, and all those folk who know they have given me much encouragement and support - in particular Bainn - could not do it without you and so glad you introduced me to poker and the Blonde forum.  Proud of your play too and your promise re: not playing the infamous hand - but so sorry it would have come good this time...grrr!  That's poker, isn't it!  Thanks for a brilliant w/e!

Look forward to seeing you all at BB4.  Take care.

Yes, it was suit & proper suit & shirt job, for the Cameras. Then back to the venue, change into APAT shirt, then change back again for the "wrap-up"...... Not the best of days for me to be doing the quick-change artist thing.

Next time, I'll be back to normal, & will tell you a train story. You can see the trains coming & going out of Edinburgh Waverley from the Castle, that's pretty cool. I tried to coincide an Interview with a train soundng it's klaxon, but we could not manage it. How sexy would that have been? I could have said "and that's the 12.17 Edinburgh-Kings Cross GNER, stopping at......."

Did you know that.......hello - HELLO - is anyone there?

Sorry, I have messed up the quotes!

Sounds like you are feeling a little bit better.......that's good......you take care, Tikay.  You did a grand job at the w/e considering you were not 100%.

Thanks very much. LOL re: the sig!

Forgot to say that we had a lovely drive back home in beautiful weather and I have quite fallen in love with the immediate surroundings we saw in the locale of Edinburgh.  Although I was nervous I also know the w/e did us both the world of good and I have come back home tired and yet refreshed from a real good w/e away!  Cheers, APAt and cheers, Blonde. :)
