A new woman at work has just started, sitting opposite me, and quite frankly she hums...    All day long, to every song, even the cr*p ones, well, there all cr*p, its Century FM.  She's 'decided' to listen to it, loud, every day, every hour, humming, to every song...

Can she be stopped without saying, politley, 'shut up'????

do it with a jokey outburst, summat along the lines of 'argghhhhhh, If you keep humming to every record im gonna go mad' thenlaugh and tell her she is a rubbish hummer.

who's choice is it to have the radio on at work?

pop it onto Radio 4....watch her fall asleep, tape her mouth up, and then put Century back on..job done

I'd just have a word and say that you don't want to be rude, but that the humming really annoys you and it's putting you off your job.  I have to confess to being a bit of a singer/hummer/whistler/non-stop chatter box myself.  I would find me so annoying to work with :D

Sack her. Never heard anything do disgraceful in my life. They are there to work, not listen to music.

But if she must listen to the Radio, insist it's Radio 4. The Archers is particularly hot right now, & there was a terrific Desert Island Discs last week. Gardeners Question Time continues to impress, particularly Bob Flowerdew.

Only if it's 'broadcast' to the public.  Not sure how many people would have to be in audible range for it to constitute a broadcast or performance.

I dont have a problem with the radio being on, quiet mind, but on... Also I wouldnt chose Century... But the real annoyance is the f*cking humming!!!!!!!!

I read in the paper it's if more than one person can hear it, nothing to do with the public, the example they gave was a husband and wife working from home should have to pay.

Ask her if she would mind humming a little louder. Tell her it really turns you on.

But I'm truly astonished that Staff are permitted to listen to the radio whilst working. They'll be allowed to use the Office PC for surfing the internert, next, or make & take calls on their mobiles. Or blokes will go to the office without a suit & tie, perish the thought.

Now that is an answer from a genius... The only thing wrong with it is if she is a Croc, then she will be humming all day even louder, then u will have to slap her...

get headphones and plug em into your computer and listen to whatever you want. thats what i do.

girl next to me sings a lot, but shes mental so it makes me laugh, especially when she does it when the compnay owners are hovering behind us during a crisis.

In a lot of companies, people listening to radio staions on their PC take up bandwidth, and if a fair amount do it, then the internet bandwidth gets hammered, so, in our company we ban it and tell people it is not allowed, but also we (as techies) port block the radio station ports so it just wont work if tried..  Occasionally some new port needs blocking but in general NO RADIO...!!!  Stop it at the gateway using rules and access lists in routers or firewalls...

Tell your techs, and they will stop the radio working without going near her humming, LOL...

She works 10-4, so thats a no go, plus its an Apple Mac, so I probably wouldn't even be able to switch it on...

sit there with your Ipod on in work - if she is allowed to listen to her music then you are allowed to listen to yours. If anyone in management tells you to take it out then say "sorry, i only do it to drowned out the humming".

so either you get to listen to your Ipod all day or you raise awareness of the problem with bosses without appearing to be a snitch.

OK the AK47 idea was a bit strong bearing in mind the heightened security in place at the mo,plus you could get in some heavy shit for carrying it,so how about splicing her head phone cables and running a discreet pair of speaker wire back to your desk attach to a electric circuit then we she puts them on next throw the switch and watch her fry????

send a request to Century asking listeners not to hum to the tunes as other co-workers would like to listen to the words.  If they don't comply, go round with AK47 and poison darts
