Title: November monthly goals.
Post by: Royal Flush on November 01, 2005, 03:21:15 PM
Hi guys this is something we do on the P4C forum each month.

We all list a few objectives for the month then come back at the end of the month and see how we all did. It doesn't matter how big or small they are as long as they challange you!!

Examples last month on P4C ranged from making $1500 to winning an EPT event!!!!

Mine were with $8k online, stay in the unusual suspects and win a ranking event, i managed 2 out of 3 which aint bad!!!

I have yet to think of my goals for this month, so someone else will have to get us started!

Ummmmmm oh go on then,,,,,,,

1) Make the money in the HUPC in Slovenia (would be nice to win, but I think making the money is a more realistic goal)

2) Continue to progress in the Omaha Cash Games (live and online)

3) Double my online bankroll

Depends how big your bankroll is and how you plan to double it. If your bankroll is $5000 and you entered the $10 rebuy on pokerstars with a $25guarentee then you will win at least $5000 for an outlay of between $11 and $101(only the big fish).

You've doubled your bankroll but you're not playing outside it.

Mr End, looking at your picture, you're gonna have to get up of the sofa and stop sleeping...

May I suggest running on the spot whilst you're online calculating whether you're getting pot odds to call...

I beg to differ matt. People seem to think the only thing to consider with comps is buyin size. Field size is nearly as important.

James,,,,, u know FULL WELL that my "TOTAL" bankroll is quite sizeable. I did say my "online" bankroll.

Like many people i suspect, I myself dont like putting money online - so no I am not playing outside my bankroll.

Also, you know that I only play one (maybe 2 MTT's each day) so even if I won the 7.5k twice in a month ie $8000, that would do it.

So are you saying that a bankroll of $8k is too little to play the $12k guaranteed on VC??????

Title: Re: November monthly goals.
Post by: redsimon on November 01, 2005, 04:28:13 PM
No I think he is saying expecting to win two MTTs a month only playing 60 maximum of them is not a realistic aim for most but the luckiest players. I just looked up the TLB 2005 leader on pokerdb and he's "won" over $200K since October 2004, but the guy plays tons of MTTs. I bet his net win is a bit lower

Title: Re: November monthly goals.
Post by: redsimon on November 01, 2005, 04:30:52 PM
Anyway, my monthly goals are:

1. To finally get "ahead" in SNGs online so 2005 ends up in the black in all aspects.

2. To start dialysis.

3. To win a MTT on Blue Square (Well if Flushy can I must have a chance :)

RED, you may or may not have noticed, that whenever I post, James ALWAYS has a sarcastic reply (mostly tounge in cheek i know, as I do the same to him)

Indeed, in this case, he makes reference to "winning an EPT event!" in his opening post, yep that was me! lol

My reply was also tounge in cheek, and the example of winning the $12k twice in a month was exactly that, an example. Another would be to have a top 4 finish in the £35k on Hills. Do you see what I mean?

I just dont think that doubling your bankroll in a month means that you are playing "outside" your bankroll. Maybe I should start another thread? (Done)

Title: Re: November monthly goals.

Nah we just joking, i brought it up as i read a piece Ben Grundy wrote about how he was happy to have doubled his BR but figured he was outside of his limits to have done it!!!

I am also half way through a piece on field variance i am writing for my blog, so its fresh in my mind.

I think its a good objective, and i hope it challanges Paul!!

RedSimon, some good objectives, i am still trying to figure mine!

dont forget the tlb can be misleading as you can win points without cashing. However i dont see how the aim of two tourney wins a month is unrealistic especially if you have the bankroll to be able to pick and choose the tournaments you think will be most profitable to you.

I beg to differ matt. People seem to think the only thing to consider with comps is buyin size. Field size is nearly as important.

Whilst field size has implications on determining the profitability of a tournament i dont understand how it can affect the ability to play within your bankroll.

If you have $5000 in your bankroll a $10 rebuy is the same and will cost you between $11 and $101 regardless of whether there are 100 runners or 1000 runners

I don't think it affects profitability but the bankroll needed to play because the higher the field size the higher the variance and the longer you could go without cashing?

The chance of getting a decent return is less, however if you get 1 it will be huge.

Take for example WSOP sats, now a $100 freezeout say with 1 package for the winner, with only a $10k bankrol.

You play 100 of these, so $10k worth, do you not see it is easy to go broke in this situation?

Now i know that is an extreme example...but look at the WSOP this year, come 50th and you only get 17 buyins back!! You make the top 1% and only get 17 times your money!!!! You have to have a very deep roll to play monster fields.

Probably more important is how good you are compared to the field. I still think you need a lot of luck and a good dollop of skill to regularly make enough to cope with the periods when you don't cash. I had a look at my tlb position for 2005 on Stars today. I'm 56000th for 2005 yet I'm at a 200% ROI there. Just a very small sample size 8)

The thing you need to do is keep getting the small wins to keep your bankroll ticking over, if you look at my results on the pokerdb for the last 12 months there arent any monster wins and yet the total is still quite healthy and i make a decent amount each month. Its the constant cashes that keep you going until the next big win comes along.

You also need good bankroll management to find and choose the tournaments that will work out most profitable to you. On my page of the pokerdb i have a lot more final tables than "other" cashes because i try to play the tournaments where i think i will make the most profit rather than win the biggest amount. This usually means me playing a tourney with 150 runners where i only need to beat 132 others to make the money rather than a 1000 runner tourney where i need to beat 919 runners to make the same profit

my aim for november is

1) to play a little less mtt's as without a win for a week can cost a bit usually playing 4 or 5 a day!!!
2) concentrate on the stt's instead and use the winnings for freerolling in afore mentioned MTT's
3) try not to play games just because there are a few fish on table in which you have notes on if it is not my choice game.
4) rick, stay away from those crappy speed tourneys and stt's they don't suit your game you are a rock!!  oh god $4000 guaranteed speed tourney starts in 5 mins doh!

This month I need to improve.

I'm going to read the Harrington on Hold 'em books.

I need to get better at cash games.  I seem to be losing recently (only cheap games) after a nice winning streak - I do something wrong and cant compete with all the aggressive just betting no matter what hands you have tactic.

And I'd like to get some more cash in my account!

My targets are -

1) to finally win my first MTT torni after final tabling 13 out of the last 20

2) To try and win a sea via a sattelite for a biggy, and then do the above in the torni itself

3) to find out the sex of my unborn baby, so that I can paint the nursery

Avoid getting knocked out of the blonde tourney to a slowplayed AA AGAIN!

Maintain a top 8 place in my local tourney (top 8 playoff after end of year, plastic trophy whoo hoo!)

Make sure I play in the Nov Cheesey game. (missed the last few but love it when I play)

That's it really. I am also looking to play in my first festival game at Luton in december the monday £200 I guess for a taster.

I don't think so either. If you play Sng's and have a decent roll of about 20 buy-ins it's certainly not outwith the realms of possibility to double your roll in a week, let alone a month.

In limit cash a roll of 300BB could be doubled in 100-200 hours decent play. When I played exclusively online I put in about 45hrs a week so would expect to double my roll every month.

If you were to double ur bankrol over 1 month, would that not mean you are playing outside your bankroll?

When I was building my roll/working my way up the limits I played one at a time and found 20 to be plenty. (excuse the rhyme)
Yes I had bad runs, when I dropped to 10 or so I'd move back down a limit for a bit. Nowadays I keep around 40 buy-ins in the online roll as moving down online isn't something I plan to have to do. Breaking into the live game now having fun trying to build that roll.

20 buyins!!

1) To improve by reading and applying Harrington on Hold Em.

2) To enter a festival for at least one of the freezeout events.

3) To do well in said festival event.

4) To buy in to the main event after doing well in said earlier festival event.

5) Pray to god for a dream trebble up in said main event and limp into 8th spot and get some ranking points.

Okay, I'll wake up. COFFEE PLEASE.

I used to be able to win at 6 max 50nl and 100nl and the odd bit of heads up. The games got harder, and i couldnt be arsed to improve my game. And the last few months i have floated around online mtt's/live cash/live mtt's with not a huge amount of succes. So im gunna drop back down to 25nl this month and try learn how to play again(with the help of some lego/cardrunners). Im gunna 4-6 table and aim to play 30k+ hands for the month and hopefully try and win around 4 BB/100 plus rakeback. Not so much fussed about the $$, just wanna put in a half decent grind for once with a bit of structure. Maybe by the end of the year il have built my roll back up enough to play 50nl, or maybe i will have quit poker.

I have also just started going to the gym again as i think i would have killed myself in 6 months had i continued to live the way i have done the last 18 months. I aim to go the gym atleast 3 times per week for an hour each time. And eat a little healthier (i aint cutting out all the takeaways and meals because i like them too much.) I want to try and lose a stone or 2 before the Xmas period.

I also aim to complete watching every WWE RAW episode from '99 and '00, as i have recently found a link containing 90% of these episodes over the years and i am enjoying reminiscing from my (earlier) childhood.

Think this is my longest ever post on blonde, and it probably contains the least amount of spelling mistakes too.

5. Striaght - Any five consecutive cards of different suits. Aces can count as either a high or a low card. The Strength of the striaght is determined by the highest card in use.

6. Flush - Any five cards of the same suit (not consecutive). The highest card of the five determines the rank of the flush. Our example shows an Ace-high flush, which is the highest possible.

Only two targets for November

1) Play not one hand of live poker
2) Avoid any poker related dialogue with Cos.

a, sat into monte carlo or win a decent score so i can buy in direct.

b, run between 200-250 miles.

c, rid my roof/loft of the wasps nest that I have noticed over the last few weeks.

Think you might as well just leave the wasps at this time of year can't you? They'll be gone soon and as far as I know they don't use a nest again so they won't be there next year.

I hate to piss on your dreams, but the black card is shit, aside from the fact you get a BLACK CARD, which is obviously very cool.

If the card itself is cool then it will exceed my expectations ;)

It's a volume based goal for me to achieve.
