Title: Why do companys like Betfair always want to screw u for more cash
Post by: chrisbruce on September 08, 2008, 03:01:08 PM
Received this today -

Dear customer,

We will shortly be making changes to our terms and conditions that will come into effect 22nd September 2008. From this date we will be introducing a new charging mechanism (Premium Charge) that will affect a small number of our most successful customers.

We are writing to inform you that had the new charges been in place over the last 6 months then you would, at some point, have been required to pay Premium Charges. If your betting in the future continues to be as successful as it has been in the past then you could be required to pay Premium Charges in line with others who, like you, fall into the top 0.5% of our customers.

T & C states

Separately Betfair may levy a premium charge on your account should the amount of commission (together with any other Fees described in these Terms and Conditions) generated in respect of your account be less than a specified percentage of profits you have made over a given period of time. Again we will use reasonable endeavours to inform you if your activity incurs a premium charge.

I have read this several times now to and to be honest it would be laughable if it wasnt going to cost me money in the future....this part is just unreal......If your betting in the future continues to be as successful

If they want more cash from me I will be walking.

I am very good customer of Betfair with a decent monlthy rake and regular sports betting. this sort of greed makes me sick.

First of all........shameless brag post.

Second of all, that is pretty disgusting. Basically saying ' he can afford it, lets get some money off him'. I could understand it more if your monthly turnover was big, but just because you are a winner is awful. I'd get this posted on all the big betting forums and see if BF respond.

Shame Betdaq are not anywhere near BF just yet. Id open another account for sportsbetting (you are allowed ten) and see if it still applies, if not get a mate to place the bets.

What sport you winning on? Got any tips?

Wow! How would they even begin to justify this? Additional exposure because of the big bucks?

Dear customer,

As you know, you're not one of them, so continue as you were.

The way this is phrased you would think I was up mega bucks.

total sports betting profit for the year is less than 10 grand and that is primarily due to a few good results in golf betting. (Graeme Mcdowel + Ross Fisher both came in for me)

It is just the audacity and cheek of the statement...If your betting in the future continues to be as successful...I just cant get out of my head.

Its like a letter the headmaster has sent home for your mum + Dad

Unreal

And yes I will be posting this on other forums

they make enough by not risking anything anyway! why try and run customers away by trying to go over the top and make more. Surely the most sensible (and most profitable) punters will try and find somewhere else to earn.

Dear Ben,

We will shortly be making changes to our terms and conditions. These changes will come into effect on the 22nd of September 2008. From this date we will be introducing a new charging mechanism (Premium Charge) that will affect a small number of customers (less than 0.5%).

In line with more than 99.5% of our customers, you will not be affected by the changes. However, we are letting you know about the changes we are making to our terms and conditions as there is a small possibility that you could be affected at some point in the future. If you are required to pay Premium Charges in the future, we will contact you before any additional charges are due.

The changes to our terms and conditions and full details of the new charge can be found here.

rotflmfao..."let's chase our most successful customers away"

I reckon now would be a good time to have someone at the BHB go to Betfair and say "Well, you have loads of new money coming in...nice..how's about a little contribution to horseracing?"

that'd shut them right up about their 0.5%

It seems the idea behind this 20% jobbie is to make the traders pay. I am not a trader. Watch this space but I'll be f**king livid if they take 20% off me.

Dear Graham,
Thank you for your e-mail.
Put simply, we are introducing this charge because as a business we spend more on the customers that will incur Premium Charges than they generate in existing charges.

You couldn't make it up...

I love the phone calls from betfair

Betfair    - 'hi chris, do you like to bet in running'

Chris       - 'not really, i normally back in the football markets and let the bet ride'

Betfair     - 'i like football betting, i enjoy betting on a game you can watch on a sunday'

Chris        - 'yeah, can i have a free bet'

Betfair     - 'ok, we will deposit £10 next time you place a bet'

Chris       - 'Thank you, Betfair is brilliant'

Had about 4 of these calls.

I was thinking maybe different poker clientelle on Betfair ie some punter who just made 2 grand on a horse that came in and wants to give some of it to me in the poker while he waits for the next race to start. Betfair did suggest to me that this happens but I dunno...

Well, I'm part of the 0.5% and there's nothing I can do about it. I paid Betfair five figures in commission over the past year but apparently that is not enough. It's now to be pretty much trebled. Good for them.

I would love to be able to switch over to Betdaq but I only bet in running and there is no alternative to Betfair. They obviously know this and I now have a major dislike for a company I have always adored. Funny how things can change over the space of two or three days.
