Hello all - joining the far more organised Mr Snoopy finally after fighting with the good people of vodafone over the right to give them lots of money... apparently the word 'poker' doesn't look to good on their credit checks...

But the dealers are in place and ready to go.  The players are still milling disorganisedly around, though, blondes included.

Title: Re: Walsall Main Event - Day One LIVE UPDATE
Post by: Djinn on November 26, 2005, 06:22:32 PM
There are currently (not definite as registration has been somewhat stretched) 109 players but that might change in the next couple of minutes...

Tikay just had a check of the starting chips and was having a moan about how the £750 gave you 10k in chips, but this £1500 event just gave 7,500, until it was pointed out to him that it was a double chance event...

Title: Re: Walsall Main Event - Day One LIVE UPDATE
Post by: snoopy1239 on November 26, 2005, 06:23:51 PM
109 players so far.

It's a double chance freezout all. So Tikay has another chance when he does his chips first hand.

Other participants:

Jeff Rogers
Andy Louca
84 yr old - Alan Mclean
Derek Baxter

JR here while Jen goes on her rounds. Snoopy has just relayed a hand to me. It goes something like this...

E Katzi raises and get callled by D Sami

Flop comes an ace and two rag diamonds. Katzi bets, Sami calls.

Turn is another diamond, Katzi bets and Sami folds, declaring he had AT.

Katzi shows a King high flush.

One of the first 'second chances' goes to Shaun Sharam at the hands of the Kid James Atkin:

He held  As Js against the kid's AK, which looked tempting on a flop with two spades, but did him no good, and the "chips!" shout rang out across the room.  Thanks to Jonathan for notifying us of this early episode (how helpful is he?)

Quick hand of note on table 8.

Mateyboy battle.

Seat 9 raises preflop with AK. 1 caller.

Flop = KQ3

Seat 9 bets, receives call from mateyboy.

turn 10

check check

river 2

Matey boy bets - seat 9 calls.

Mateyboy shows AJ for straight.

Dan Samson gets involved in a pretty big early pot too, which I caught on the turn when the board looked like:  2c Qd 3d Js.  The river was just appearing:  Qc.  His opponent bet 1,000 on the river which Dan just flat called holding  3c 3h!

Junior picks up a 5k or so pot calling an all-in of 1,500 on a board of  Jd Kd 8c with the nice-looking  Ad 8d.  He was up against K 10, but the  As and  3d finished the other guy off conclusively (well, his chip stack number one anyway) and gave Greg a nice start.

Burnley John doubles through.

Holds pocket aces versus ace 4.

Bets 150. Called.

Flop = A47

He bets 600. Mateyboy makes it 1200. John smooth calls.

john checks rag turn. Mateyboy bets 1000. John sets him all in. Mateyboy calls.

I believe he was drawing dead.

Lovely!

And Shaun Sharam the official first casualty - after losing his first chips to the kid, he had KQ on a Q44 board, but he was up against Kings and the monster of A4, which scooped the lot!  (The turn and river being 3,2).

AlrightJack here again.

Martyn Cavanagh, who finished 3rd in the main event at Blackpool last week has doubled up via Pete 'the bandit' Evans. He's limped with 78 off and the flop comes A78. He bets, bandit raises, Martyn makes it some more and a few raises later all the chips have gone in. Pete turns over AK and the jack and the three on the turn and river dont change the situation.  "Chips please"

Right, we're working on an initial FULL chip count, two tables at a time.  Giving thoroughness a shot, with the excellent and very quick chip counting of Mr. snoopy:

Robert Binelli    7,300
Ian Woodley   14,000
Kevan Simcock 5,725
Simon Millington  8,350
Tikay                6,600
Dave Finney      6,225
Darren Grosvenor  2,800
Trevor Reardon   6,000
Kevin Zarandi      22,000
John Stamatelopoulos  4,650
The Camel          11,500
D. Shearer          8,050
Michael Greco      5,600
Ash Pervaiz         8,900
Michael Fletcher   11,000
R. Rauf               8,800

The counts are still in a sort of fledgeling state as not everyone has had their second set of chips, but hopefully it's interesting anyway... They're into the second blind level now.

Snoop Doggy AlrightJack here.

Hand between Greg Hill and James Atkin. UTG flat calls, Greg makes it 500 to play. Its folded round to Atkin in the sb, who bumps it up to 1500.

Greg asks how much James has left, then calls after being told he has 8,000 or so left.

Flop Jd Jc 7c

James bets 4,000. Greg passes after a delay that could just about be called a dwell but would be lightning fast if it were Carlo (who is also on the same table) playing the hand.

Semi-Texan John Hewston is out.  But he was already wandering off when I saw his empty chair and thought better of chasing him for the story...

Snoop is getting the final few tables' counts, and gathering a little list of interesting stories for when he returns, while I assign names to stacks courtesy of the list provided by the ever-helpful cardroom staff here.

Just caught up with Mr. Burnley John, who I've seen having a cigarette by the bar, having a cigarette by the TV and now by the blonde workstation, but who I asked, "Have you actually been at your table long enough to play a hand?"  "I played trip Aces," he said.  Here he is talking to the gent who paid them off...

John is actually the loosest player around!!!

Its just that he smokes so much that he is never at the table to play a hand... sorry except for trip aces!

Come on BURNLEY WOMBLE BAZZA and MARTIN CAV... and JUNIOR! Theres just too many! MICKEY I KNOW IT... anyone else i miss CAMEL CARLO BINELLI G HARLE... the list goes on and on and on and on and on... oh yes nearly forgot that TIKAY fella!

Greg Hill lost 4,500 in a hand to Alan Mclean who "must have 30,000 now, he took another guy out," according to Greg.  "Just say I played it like a nob," was the only rather blunt detail he was prepared to give away.

According to Carlo, he's only played one hand in 2 hours.

Not a bad 1 though.

Limps with 33 under the gun.

Matey boy in the small blind puts in a raise with pocket queens.

Carlo dwells, obviously, then calls. A Mclean also calls.

Flop is 363. - 2 clubs. Blimey! Quads.

Funnily enough, Carlo checks. Mclean checks his flush draw. Matey boy in the small blind bets his queens. Both Carlo and Mclean flatcall.

Turn comes the 6 of hearts.

Everyone checks.

River comes the ten of spades.

Carlo checks, Mclean checks his missed flush draw, Matey boy bets his queens and Carlo moves in with his quads.

Carlo is paid off and doubles his stack.

3 way action with quads. How often does that happen?

Dan Samson just lost a huge pot with  Kc Kd.  You think you might like to see this hand on the big blind, as he did, with a raise to 400 and a re-raise from the small blind to 1,400 in front of him.  But when he made it 3,400 to go, the others folded but the small blind moved all-in with  Ac Qs.  The two folders had passed Aces, so it was the Case Ace which cracked his Kings sending him down to just 2,500 total.  Never the defeatist, he says, "I can come back, you know me."

Lucy Rokach is OUT

Matey boy raises preflop and receives 4 callers, including Lucy.

Flop = 893 rainbow.

Matey boy bets out. Lucy is the only caller.

Turn = 7

Matey boy checks, Lucy bets around 1.5k, matey boy flat calls.

River = 4

Matey boy checks, Lucy moves all-in for 7k.

Matey boy thinks and thinks and thinks, in true Carlo style.

He then calls with QQ. Lucy shows T7.

Matey boy takes the pot and Lucy is sent spinning down the motorway.

Michael Greco OUT. Taken out by R Rauf.

Rauf limps under the gun with  6h 9h. Barney Boatman raises with  Ac As. Greco flatcalls with  Ks Kc. Rauf also smooth calls.

Flop =  6d 6c 5d

Rauf checks. Boatman bets 500 into a 1300 pot.

Greco calls. Rauf reraises to 2000.

Boatman folds his bullets. Greco moves in and is quickly called.

He received no help on the turn and the actor is gone. Rauf rakes in a nice pot.

Bad news blondeites: Tikay is OUT - I thought he was just coming over for a cigarette, but he's managed to do all of his chips (at least he outlasted Michael Greco) in the following manner:

Holding  Th Jh he saw a flop for 600 along with three other people.  The deadly flop was  Qd 9h 4h, and when Iwan Jones bet out 1200, the 4200 pot was just too tempting and he pushed all-in for 7,000 with his big old draw.  Iwan took a while before calling and knocking him out, to his credit calling Tikay's hand exactly before doing so... but our fearless leader looks a bit deflated, especially as his computer is now being used rather professionally by snoopy.

Here's a pic of Tikay and Iwan before the one disposed of the other.

The 'Ol fella here.

Iwans hand was  Ac Qs.

The board came  Qd 9h 4h.

Iwan bets 1,200, I move in. Iwan dwells, puts me on EXACTLY the right hand, & makes a huge & brave call.

Turn  7s

River   Ad

I don't think I can play the hand any other way, except to pass pre-flop.

Good Luck to Iwan, no complaints from me.

I don't know what to do with myself now! But these two guys seem to be doing a quite splendid job, so I think I'll head off home, tail between legs.

I'll be online later, all jealous!

Barry Neville takes a chunk out of Burnley John with a straight which John bet on the river.  Barry just flat called the final 1,500 and John is down to 6,500 while Barry is on one of those up swings.

That table has sat in a row, Burnley, Barry, Geoff Duvall and Joe Grech.

Elsewhere, Robert Binelli has been "stealing," according to Tikay, who's on his way home, but I saw him win a few thousand with  Ah Qc after calling 1,700 on a flop of  9d 2s Qs and, getting a check to him on the  2h river, he took the pot by throwing in one of those purple chips (5k).  He showed his hand, which makes my job more interesting...

Sorry, ifm.

Tom Burns is OUT

As a result Jeff Duval is now on 37k.

Tom raised to 1200 with 10-10.

Matey boy flatcalls.

Geoff Duval reraises with A-J.

Tom moves all-in. Matey boy folds 9-9. Duval is pot committed and calls.

Board comes 10-Q-K-rag-rag and Tom's trips lose to Duvall's straight.

Afterwards, Tom tells me that Geoff didn't realise that Tom still had a 5k chip and thought he was putting him all-in with the initial reraise. If he'd have known this, then perhaps he wouldn't have reraised. We may never know now. Unlucky Tom.

Dani Versace has just posed a question.

You're in the middle to late stages of  big comp and have Aces in late position. You're the second biggest stack at your table and one of the chip leaders. There's a raise, a reraise and then a rereraise from the table chip leader. The raises are all big enough that all three of the other players are committed. What do you do?

Well I've been off air for a half hour or so thanks to the collective muppetry of the vodafone guys.
"You've been barred because you have a spend limit on your card."
"Can you unbar me?"
"Yes."
"Thanks."
Still not working.
"You've been barred because you have a spend limit on your card."
"I know, I had the bar lifted."
"No you didn't."
"Yes, I did."
"It's still there."
"I know."
"Would you like it lifted?"
"Yes."     Repeat over five phone calls.  Finally get back online.

Here's a pic of chip leader (or thereabouts) Alan Mclean, looking rather wistfully at his pile of chips.

On a break now, Alan no longer has all of those chips. He lost almost 20k of them to Atkin with AK versus the youngster's pocket sevens! Atkin's stack now approaching 40k!

Next blinds are 300 - 600, and a rather fatalistic Dan Samson tells us it's all likely to go in next level (he's got just over 6k)

80 players remaining.

Some counts pre-dialup freezeout:

Jeff Buffenbarger     15,000
El Blondie                25,000
George Harle                  13,000
D. Clarke                 11,300
L. Pattern               18,400
Howard Plant           18,500
Steve Bovis             30,000

The sharp rise in Steve Bovis' chips came with a set over set scenario - he held  Qd  Qs on a  Kh Qc  4c board, while Mr. Harle held the unfortunate  4d 4s.  It all got in and Steve doubled up.  Apparently that's the second time in a week.  Ouch.

Mad Marty raises 3,500 from the button, it having been folded round to him. Welshman Ian Herbert goes all in for another 6k or so. Marty gives it some chat then passes. Ian shows pocket twos. Marty reels.

Mad Marty is out! He has AQ and the flop is A rag T. Carlo has pocket tens and to rub it in, an Ace falls on the river.  His seat has now been taken by a chipped up to the eyeballs Joe Grech.

Update on the Snoopy laptop situation...its either dying or very slow. He's right next to me so it can't be the reception, cos mine is great.

Nice hand between Matey Boy and Sonny Jim.

Matey boy raises 3k preflop. Sonny Jim calls. So does Jeff Duvall.

Flop 7c 8h Qs.

Matey Boy bets about 5k. Sonny Jim goes over the top for another 8.2k

Matey Boy thinks for an eternity then passes, even though he has another 35k in the bank.

Matey Boy asks for a show and Sonny Jim holds up pocket kings.

Sonny Jim builds his stack.

John Shipley went OUT just before the break.

He raised preflop to 1000 with AK and found 1 caller in Anthony Nicholls.

Flop = KT7

Shipley bets the pot, Nicholls flat calls.

Turn = 2

Shipley bets 2000, Nicholl's reraises Shipley's final 3000. Shipley throws his 3000 in and turns over his Big Slick.

Nicholl's shows his JJ and rivers a thrid.

Shipley drowned by the river. Ouch.

Junior is pictured here at the break with just 4,000, trying to hide from the camera, but I just checked on him and he's up to 14k!  I asked "what happened here?" and he said. "I got lucky" first of all with J 10 against AQ, which hit the A and Q only for the straight to appear, and then he raced to his second double up with JJ against AQ.  Looks a bit happier now...

Womble just saw a flop of  Ts Js 5s on the button, along with Junior and Joe Grech.  It checked round.  The turn brought the  8s.  Junior checked, Joe bet 1,600.  Womble thought and carefully counted out 1,600, before raising. Junior passed.  Joe put in 5k, Womble moved all-in fairly rapidly and when Joe folded we all saw why - his hand was  As 6s.

Atkin raises to 2,100 utg.

Womble, 2 positions later calls. The rest of the table folds.

flop is 3s 9h 9s

they both check.

turn is Ks, check check

river Kd

Atkin bets 3k. Womble passes showing 2 black sevens.

Hi there boss - good to see you got home OK and are enjoying the update - yes, we aren't as good with your temperamental laptop as you are, but having rested it for a little while snoopy looks to be able to get it up and running again.  He's getting the full live update experience: all the fun and excitement of the tournament, and the sometimes nail biting wrestling with technology.

Jonathan has finally snapped with it.  Just now heard to mutter, "Three bars! Surely not.  I used to think you could get away with three but once you've had 4!  I blame this wire....."  Bats.

Rumit is OUT - he eventually made a move with pocket tens, ran into AK and lost his small stack attempting to double it through.

A 40k pot was just taken down on a  3d 4d 8s flop by James Atkin (it looked like his opponent was yet again Alan Mclean).  Almost immediately afterward, he (Alan) got involved in another monster pot, this time with newly-deposed chip leader Anthony Nicholls.  Anthony limped preflop, then called Alan's 7k raise on the button.  He bet out on the flop though, 10,000 when it came  4d 2s Ts, and couldn't keep the extra 9.100 from going in when Alan Mclean pushed his whole stack.  He showed  Ac Qs, and Alan's  6d 6c were good.  Non-stop action over there...

Mickey Wernick   30,000
Ali Mallou            35,000 (down from 50,000 a few minutes ago)

And here comes James Atkin!  Somehow Carlo got all his many chips - oh, and here's how:

Carlo limps on the button, James calls with  Tc Jc, the bb then raises 2.5k with both players following him in.
Flop:  8c 4c 9d
James goes for the minimum check-raise on Carlo (who bet 10,000 and pushed in after said check-raise) and went for it with his big draw.  Carlo held  Kh Ks!

Turn and river were the irrelevant 8 3 (i.e. not clubs) and the young hellraiser is over in update corner giving us the story of how he nearly had SO many chips...
"It's hard to put him on Kings, and it's such a perfect flop for me..."  Look familiar, Tikay?

Bit of a debate on Junior's table regarding the hand that knocked James Atkin out. Carlo is confident that the kings were favourite on the flop. Greg thinks otherwise.

Alrightjack is currently running it through cardplayer.

Title: Re: Walsall Main Event - Day One LIVE UPDATE
Post by: Djinn on November 27, 2005, 01:21:59 AM
For 'Carlo' in that hand with James Atkin, read 'Alan Mclean.'  We got the exit from the horse's mouth, but it's easy to mix those two up :)

So Alan's back up there amongst the leaders.

And here is the knockouter come to join us and the knockoutee:  Alan Mclean has 120,000 and looks to be the chip leader.  "Long way to go yet, but I'd be happy with 120 at the end of the night."  Fair enough.

Junior - 13k
Dave Clark - 25k
Ian Foster - 25k

Mine's OK now afer the barred/unbarred/barred again fiasco.  Yours went haywire for an hour but Snoopy is persevering and we're alright.  Calm calm, no need to rush back over and pretend you can fix it ;)

So what you are saying is that you don't need me any more ;reallyamsorry; ;reallyamsorry;.........

Well unless they've invaded his living room Tikay will be of absolutely no use...

Martin Cavanagh has 16,000

Iwan Jones just OUT.

James Fisher is (I believe) out as of a long time ago.

Iwan Jones - OUT
James Fisher - OUT
Carl Thomas - OUT

Martin Cavanagh is flying the flag for that little group with 13.6k, but he seems to be in good spirits.

OK consider bait taken:

We would collectively only benefit from your experience and calmly unflappable technological and personal expertise.  But we want you to rest and work on stuff as you've been working so hard, and couldn't possibly insist you stay and update after such an unsettlingly early exit...  It's good for us to struggle with your idiosyncratic equipment - we just appreciate you more.

There that's enough.

The Cardiff boys normally have a last longer wager, and it could just be that Martin C has just won it with Iwan's untimely exit, as it sounds like the rest have fallen by the wayside

Well, James is out as we know, but I think most will agree he's made a positive impression and has done very well to have consecutibe 3rd places in the £500 and £750 events. If he'd hit on the hand it may well have been a sublime three finals in a row. I'm sure there's more to come from him in the future.

I may be in my living room, but I can confirm that poor James Fisher went out in the first 15 minutes. His QQ was turned over by JJ, & he lost his second tranche pretty damn quick too.

As to Jen's riposte. Well,, that's told me good & proper. "Unsettlingly". Another new word coined by Jen the wordsmith. No education, that's her problem.

About an hour to go here and it looks like as per usual they're not going to get close to 18, but we're in for a long second day, commencing at 3pm tomorrow.
Here's Jonathan Raab showing no signs of flagging in his job moonlighting as an updater.

Trevor Reardon has been short stacked all day and is starting to look slightly sour faced. A good double up should solve that. Big TR is currently on 9.2k.

Junior is also struggling - 10.6k

Binelli - 17k
M.Tyler - 13kk
M. Wernick - 55k
Don Jones - 15k
El Blondie - 24k
Andy Gomm - 8.5k

I still have 10000000000000000000000000k.

He was knocked out by N Hussain.

Anthony Nicholls, an early chip leader, is now back up to 55k after dropping down to 30k.

Tikay my chips would've been in faster than yours! You have to make these plays in my opinion, or else you never build the "bullying" stack! Your playing well, just a little hiccup, it would be unfair if you locked up a seat in every last 2 tables in a comp!

Just caught some of the program tonight, and saw a long and very very close up on compton... all was revealed at the end with an empty chair, not the same program without the co anchor/anaylist!

Martyn Cavanagh is OUT.

All-in preflop with  7d 7c v  Dave Smith's Ah Qc.

First card was 7h to make Martyn trips.

Followed by...

 5c 3s 2h 4c

Ouch. Dave Smith makes a straight and Cavanagh is gone.

At this yawningly late hour they've somehow found the energy to knock out another whole table's worth of players so they're down to 36 and counting... but I reckon the whistle is getting blown imminently and we'll hang around for those end-of-day counts for you.

Title: Re: Walsall Main Event - Day One LIVE UPDATE
Post by: snoopy1239 on November 27, 2005, 03:05:46 AM
Andy Gomm is on a roll. He's now climbed up to 44k after being low stacked.

1st hand:

4 limpers, no raises.

And Gomm bets 3k into a K74 flop.

Dave Smith calls and raises 5k.

Gomm moves in for the 5k and his remaining 1700.

Dave Smith calls the 1700.

Gomm shows KQ, Smith shows K6.

Turn and river were blanks, Gomm doubled up.

Second hand:

Another battle with Dave Smith.

It appears as though Gomm had JK v Smith's J9 on a JT3 flop.

Turn = T

River = 5

Gomma doubles through again with his 2 pairs Jacks and Tens, King kicker.

We are waiting now for the END OF DAY ONE chip counts... having seen off Mr. Colclough who is still in, but only just, after an unlucky run-in with  Ac Ad ("Again.").  He got it all in with his Aces against Steve Bovis' J9 on a 10 10 9 flop, and you fill in the rest.  Never mind, he's still got 6k or thereabouts and is heading back tomorrow to give it a shot.
