Title: UK Citizenship test
Post by: Claw75 on July 06, 2009, 09:43:12 PM
Someone I know posted this link on facebook, and I thought I'd share it here.  This is a practice version of the 'life in the United Kingdom citizenship test' that people looking to become British Citizens have to pass (75%).  The questions aren't what I was expecting at all.  I failed :(

Bear in mind if you take the actual test you get to revise from the little book.

I would fail as well if I took it.

Mainly because the questions are wrong though;

In which TWO of the following places does the European Parliament meet??

A London
B Strassbourg
C Paris,

Oh really?

I selected B only

Answer is; Incorrect. The correct answers were B  Strasbourg and D  Brussels. Information on this topic can be found on page 53 of the 'Life in the United Kingdom: A Journey to Citizenship Handbook.

no option D given...that's one way to keep the foreigners out, I guess.

just seems to me that if they're going to do a citizenship test it should be more geared around social and cultural stuff: local customs, etiquette, that kind of thing.  Found it very Bizarre!

There is no way this is the actual test or a close approximation of it.

wwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

You have failed the practice citizenship test.

Questions answered correctly: 5 out of 24 (21%)

Time taken: 06 minutes 47 seconds

Please select 'Test summary' for a full summary of your test and for advice on how to use the Official Handbook and Study Guide to prepare for the actual test.

Please note: At the end of the actual test, your answers will not be displayed on screen. At the end of the test session the test supervisor will tell you whether you have passed or not.

what do i win? ;D

Quite right.

Don't stand on the left on an escalator.
Don't queue-jump.

That's about it.

Probably very easy to pass with a little bit of studying which makes the thing a complete waste of time in the first place.

14/24.

Some of those questions are like the jackpot questions they put on quiz machines when they want to screw you.

Like how many baked beans has someone eaten in an hour?

A: 336789212
B:336789213
....etc.

And with maybe more relevance to citizenship..

Questions answered correctly: 11 out of 24 (46%) (I got 3 half right, so I'm giving myself an extra point or two for fun = 13)

Time taken: 04 minutes 50 seconds

The time available is very long given that most of the Qs are either know or don't know.  I suspect that you might be allowed reference material in the exam, in which case its just a test of reading rather than knowledge.
