Title: Re: WSOP-E 2009, sponsored by Betfair Post by: tikay on September 18, 2009, 02:51:37 PM ABOUT WORLD SERIES OF POKER EUROPE The World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) was established in 2007 by Harrah’s Entertainment to bring the excitement and entertainment of the World Series of Poker to destinations around the globe. WSOPE is the first live tournament brand extension of the world’s longest-running, richest and most prestigious gaming event. Betfair, the world’s largest betting exchange, serves as the presenting sponsor of the event. WSOPE in London complements the WSOP held annually in Las Vegas. During the first two years of the WSOPE, a total of 1,740 entrants have competed for seven gold bracelets and been awarded £9,997,500 in prize money. The 3rd Annual WSOPE will be held from September 17th through October 1st at the luxurious Casino at the Empire in Leicester Square in London, England, where four gold bracelets will be at stake. The biggest names in poker have participated in WSOPE, including: Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Annie Duke, Phil Hellmuth, David “Devilfish” Ulliott, Daniel Negreanu, John Juanda, Gus Hansen, Eric Seidel, Mike Matusow, Joe Hachem, Vanessa Rousso, Andy Bloch, David Benefield, Ivan Demidov, Sorel Mizzi, Jennifer Tilly, Layne Flack, Andrew Black, Barry Greenstein, Tom Dwan, Chris Ferguson, Scotty Nguyen, Max Pescatori, Chris Bjorin, Allen Cunningham, Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer, Patrik Antonius, John Phan and Annette Obrestad. Obrestad won the largest amount ever for a female in any sporting event, £1 million – or U.S. $2,013,102 when she won the inaugural WSOPE Main Event in 2007. John Juanda, the 2008 Main Event champion, won in an epic battle. The final table lasted a record- 21 hours. Juanda took home a cool £868,800 and the coveted WSOPE bracelet for his efforts. The host country is still looking to win its first bracelet on its home soil, while six different nations have captured a WSOPE bracelet: Denmark (2), Afghanistan, Germany, Italy, Norway and USA. The list of WSOPE bracelet winners is as follows: 2007: Annette Obrestad (£10,000 Main Event No Limit Hold’em) Thomas Bihl (£2,500 H.O.R.S.E.) Dario Alioto (£5,000 Pot Limit Omaha) 2008: John Juanda (£10,000 Main Event No Limit Hold’em) Theo Jorgensen (£5,000 Pot Limit Omaha) Sherkhan Farnood (£2,500 H.O.R.S.E.) The inaugural Caesars Cup is a unique Ryder Cup-style poker tournament pitting teams of the best players from both sides of the Atlantic against each other. The Caesars Cup takes place on Friday, September 25 at 10:00 AM at the Casino at the Empire in London’s famed Leicester Square as part of World Series of Poker Europe Presented by Betfair. The Caesars Cup will feature the game No-Limit Hold’em with two teams of eight doing battle over a series of Heads Up and two-man doubles matches, with single points awarded for each match. The doubles formats will include alternate betting. The first team to 4 points will win. Each team has eight players. They are: AMERICAS EUROPEANS *Daniel Negreanu *Annette Obrestad Phil Ivey Peter Eastgate Phil Hellmuth Dario Minieri John Juanda Bertrand Grospellier Doyle Brunson Patrik Antonius Jennifer Harman Ilari Sahamies Pro TBD Pro TBD Qualifier TBD Qualifier TBD * Team Captains The Caesars Cup is a made-for-television special that will air on ESPN-branded channels around the globe and syndicated in markets without ESPN affiliates as part of televised 2009 WSOPE coverage. The first match will be Doubles: Alternate Bet where two players compete per side. One player per side will play pre-flop and on the turn; the other player will play the flop and the river. Once players are designated, their roles will not change. Two matches of this format will be played, so that 4 of the 8 players on each team will be featured. The next two matches will feature Doubles: Same Stack where two new players compete per side. They share the same chip stack. They alternate playing two hands at a time so both have the button. After the doubles matches conclude, the matches change to Heads-Up – if necessary. Team captains will select which members of their teams play heads up and it will be an alternate selection process, where if the European team names their player first for Match 1, the Americas team will have to name their player first for Match 2. That format continues until one team has accumulated 4 total points. The strategy of when to use a player and whom they match up with will be critical in determining which team will come out victorious. Pride, bragging rights and claiming the inaugural Caesars Cup are all up for grabs at the event. It will be included in this year’s World Series of Poker Europe Presented by Betfair taking place at the Casino at the Empire in famed Leicester Square from September 17 to October 2. The unique event will be played on September 25th, with the tournament being fought out on the feature table area of the main casino floor to determine whether the Americas or Europeans are home to the best tournament poker players. Title: Re: WSOP-E 2009, sponsored by Betfair Post by: TightEnd on September 19, 2009, 11:56:36 AM Report courtesy of Betfair Poker, on the current £1000 tournament
Day 1a ended in the £1000 No Limit Hold'em tournament at the WSOPE with a familiar name leading the chip counts. JP Kelly goes into Day 2 with an impressive 65,000 chips. Hot on the youngster's heels are Richard Kellet and Ian Frazer but it was a day of carnage for some of the other big names. Tournament director Jack Effel got the 2009 WSOPE underway in earnest, following Thursday's Million Dollar Game, and a plethora of star names were seated for this one. Phil Hellmuth was quick to head for the exits. The 'Poker Brat' managed to get all of his chips into the middle with an open-ended straight draw versus his opponent's pocket kings. The straight didn't come and Hellmuth found himself on the rail after only one round of play. London locals Neil Channing, Willie Tann and Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott were also eliminated early on. Channing fell victim to Richard Kellet. Kellet was one of the chip leaders throughout the day and looks in good shape for Day 2 but it was JP Kelly that ended the day as the leader of the pack. Kelly claimed WSOP glory earlier this year when he picked up a $1500 bracelet in Las Vegas and he must be one of the favourites to win European WSOP glory here in London. Players continued to hit the exits at high speed throughout the day. The 3000 starting chips given to each player saw many all ins, early on, on various occasions. The 295 players that started the event were whittled down to just 40 before midnight where play was stopped for the day. There are still many household names left in the mix, though. Roland de Wolfe, Joe Grech and Eddie Hearn are clinging on in there as we look towards Day 1b for more frantic action. The current top ten players and their chip counts look like this: JP Kelly - 65000 Richard Kellett - 65000 Ian Frazer - 60000 David Stucke - 40000 Swee Chai - 40000 Andy Kyprianou - 35500 Andrew Seden - 30000 Raymond Rahme - 24000 Adam Matusiak - 22000 Raul Paez - 20000 Day 1b starts at noon UK time today. We'll have all the important action and news here at Betfair Poker Title: Re: WSOP-E 2009, sponsored by Betfair Post by: mondatoo on September 19, 2009, 11:58:04 AM Tikays update had JP on 95k ???

This is why we haven't pitched up in London to do some updating The Photography section is interesting :D Media Credential Requirements for 2009 World Series of Poker Europe ® The following rules constitute the media credential requirements for the 2009 World Series of Poker Europe(the "Event") by Harrah's Operating Company and London Clubs International (LCI)Please read each item carefully. Strict compliance at all times to each requirement is an express condition precedent to continued use of the media credential. Granting of media credentials is at the sole discretion of the World Series of Poker Europe and Harrah's. The following criteria will be utilized to help determine eligibility for media credentials: 1. Applicant must be a full-time journalist. 2. Work must be for a legitimate news outlet whose primary objective is to disseminate news information to the public. 3. All work must use a byline. 4. Applicant must provide news editor or producer contact information. 5. Submission of representative past work, including both feature and news reporting is a requirement. Any unauthorized use of credentials may subject the bearer to immediate ejection from the The Empire Casino and prosecution for criminal trespass. It may also subject the accredited organization to revocation of its credentials for future World Series of Poker Europeevents. Media credentials are non-transferable and must be worn at all times when on-site at the Empire. Credentialed media may provide content only to the outlet listed on their credential. It is a violation of use and grounds for revocation if a credential-holder provides content to an outlet (website, magazine, blog, newspaper, radio station, television station, etc.) that is not listed on holder's credential. Media credentials are required to gain access to the WSOP Media Center and admittance will not be permitted without an approved and official event credential. Possession of a credential and verification of identity allows the bearer to register for the media charity tournament. ELIGIBILITY 1. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Government issued photo identification must be presented to receive a credential and must be available upon request from organization staff at any time while bearer is on casino property. 2. Each accredited media organization shall be limited to three credentials due to the limited capacity of the event. It is the responsibility of the accredited media organization to determine in advance of the event which representatives for whom it plans to submit applications. 3. Freelance journalists requesting media credentials must provide either: (a) an original letter of assignment, on letterhead, from an editor at an approved media outlet or (b) an email letter of assignment from an editor that originates from an approved outlet's formal domain. 4. Authors requesting media credentials must provide a comprehensive treatment of the book being researched, in addition to a letter of intent to publish, supplied on letterhead, from a representative of an approved publishing house. 5. Documentary filmmakers and representatives of independent video production companies will not be eligible for media credentials. A separate licensing agreement will be required for access to the tournament, which may or may not be granted at Harrah's sole discretion. 6. Journalists without a specific assignment from an accredited media outlet will not be eligible for media credentials. PHOTOGRAPHY 7. Credentialed photographers can use images only for editorial purposes and may provide photos only to the accredited organization listed on their approved credential application form. Any other use is strictly prohibited. 8. Photos posted on websites may be archived for 72 hours only from the specific event date. Following 72 hours, photos are deemed to no longer be for standard news usage and must be removed. 9. Flash photography is strictly prohibited inside the tournament room. 10. Once any tournament event gets overcrowded due to space constraints, photographer access inside the ropes will be restricted. (Photographs may be taken from outside the ropes.) Photo requests may be made at any time to any ImageMasters staff member, the official photographer of the 2009 WSOP. Photographers are allowed at the final table only after the winner has completed contractual interviews and promotional obligations. 11. Credentials do not authorize photography outside the tournament area; accredited organizations are prohibited from capturing images of the Empire Casino without prior consent of a member of property staff. 12. Representatives of photo collection and merchandising houses are not eligible for media credentials. VIDEO 13. Under no circumstances can video from anywhere in the Empire Casino including the tournament area or casino appear on any website. No video cameras are permitted inside the tournament room without an escort from a member of the Harrah's media-relations team or Betfair PR representative. Filming of hand-by-hand play is prohibited. 16. Video interviews shall be conducted inside the tournament room only with an escort from a member of the Harrah's media-relations team or Betfair PR representative. 17. Television stations can record (but cannot go live with) a maximum of five minutes of non-table play video footage from inside the tournament room on a single day and include up to two minutes of footage in a regularly scheduled newscast. If the regularly scheduled newscast also streams live on the TV affiliate's website that is permissible as long as it is the exact stream of the live television signal. Archiving, storing or streaming video on a website outside of a live newscast is strictly prohibited. TOURNAMENT ACCESS 18. Credentialed media may not in any way distract players during tournament action. This act is subject to immediate ejection. 19. Once any tournament event gets overcrowded due to space constraints, media access inside the ropes will be restricted. All media will be escorted outside the ropes and then tournament staff will rotate media in and out according to demand and capacity limits. Media must be escorted by event staff to be inside the ropes and failure to comply with staff requests will result in forfeiture of access. 20. Accredited media organizations can file a maximum of one online update per hour per event, provided the web site covers each event on a separate page of the web site. This includes posting of chip counts. An event is defined as any of the individual poker games that make up the WSOPE. 21. Live Updates: No continuous live updates in the form of text messaging, podcasts, blogging or live remote audio or video feeds are permitted. Updates in these formats may be filed once an hour and may only include information preceding the update, not any action or event occurring while the update is in progress. 22. While an event is in progress, media organizations can only post Top 10 chip counts once per hour. Media organizations can post the entire order of the players only once the event has been completed and/or at the end of each day after the WSOPE releases official results/updates. Definition: Once an hour. Once an hour is determined from the start time of any event. If an event begins at 12 noon GMT, the first update cannot be posted before 1:00 PM GMT, and each subsequent update must follow an hour after the last update. ELECTRONIC DEVICES 23. Members of the media with a credential are forbidden from using, carrying or setting up electronic equipment such as computers, Blackberrys, Personal Digital Assistants, cellular telephones or transmitters of any kind inside the tournament area. (This includes any device used in conjunction with live radio remotes). These devices may be utilized in the Media Center or Press Box throughout the duration of the tournament. SELF PROMOTION 24. Credentialed media displaying or otherwise promoting any product or service on the grounds of the The Empire Casino will be deemed to be non-working media and have their credentials revoked. 25. Credentialed media are permitted to wear as part of their clothing one standard logo of their organization that is no larger than four inches vertical or horizontal and commonly accepted as normal dress attire. Provided however, Harrah's reserves the right to prohibit the display of any logo(s) that are considered distasteful or otherwise deemed inappropriate by Harrah's, in its sole and absolute discretion or that violate the Business and Registration Policy. http://www.worldseriesofpoker.com/pdfs/Businessregrules2008.pdf TRADEMARKS 26. 2009 WSOPE Event 1: £1,000 No-limit Hold'em The first event of the 2009 World Series of Poker Europe is completed and we have crowned the first champion. He ended Day 1 as the chipleader and finished the tournament in the same vein, step forward Mr JP Kelly. The £1,000 entry-fee appealed to pros and amateurs alike, with Day 1a attracting 295 runners including the likes of Phil Hellmuth, Roland de Wolfe and Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliot with the former being eliminated very early on into proceedings. After raising preflop, then calling a re-raise from Eddie Hearn, Hellmuth somehow managed to get all his chips in the middle holding 5h6h which gave him an open-ended straight draw. He definitely needed to hit as Hearn held pocket kings, but a 9s turn followed by a Qc river saw 'The Poker Brat' heading for the rail. The action was thick and fast due to the shallow starting stacks and hour long blinds and by the end of play only 41 players still had chips remaining! Day 1b showed no signs of slowing down either, despite it been a more pro-heavy day with Phil Ivey, Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson, Annette Obrestad and 2008 WSOPE Main Event winner John Juanda taking to the tables. Out of the 313 that started, only 58 would return for Day 2. JP Kelly was the overnight chipleader with 99,000 chips but Richard Kellet, Ian Frazer and Fabian Dunlop were all hot on his heels with stacks around the 65,000 mark. Of the 89 remaining players, only 63 would make the money, meaning 26 unlucky players would be going home empty handed. Robert Lim was the unlucky “bubble-boy”, after being eliminated by Raymond Rahme in 64th position. Rahme raised 'Under The Gun', a raise which Lim called on the button for almost one third of his stack. On a flop reading 6c9h7h Rahme open-shoved only to see Lim instantly call. Rahme showed a pair of nines for top set and was way in front of Lim's pocket aces. No help arrived on the turn or river and Lim walked away with nothing but memories whilst the rest of the 63 players would be guaranteed £2,006. One by one the players fell by the wayside and with each elimination the dream of a WSOP bracelet came closer to reality. Eventually the 89 players who started has been whittled down to just 10 and they all gathered for the unofficial final table to play ten-handed until the final table bubble burst. That honour went to the extremely vocal Ganesh Bathmanathan who saw his push from the hijack with As7h called by Richard Allen's AcKd. The board changed nothing and our final table was set, with Fabian Dunlop leading the way with 538,000 chips. The remaining nine players returned to The Empire the following day but James Tomlin was soon leaving again after pushing his short-stack in the middle with Ac7s only to see William Martin re-shove and Thor Drexel call! Tomlin was in bad shape as both his opponents held Big Slick and when the board ran out JcKc4c4d8s, Tomlin was eliminated with £13,115 for his efforts. Drexler was next to go when his queens lost a race with Adnan Alshamah's Ace-king and he was quickly joined on the rail by William Martin who's AsJs could not outrun Fabian Dunlop's pocket sevens. Dunlop then took his stack to 985,000 when his kings triumphed over Neil Suarez's pair of fours but JP Kelly was trying his best to keep up with him when he eliminated Anthony Roux with a kings versus tens situation, all-in preflop. Play went from four-handed to heads-up in a remarkably short space of time, first Richard Allen's Ace-four came up short against Kelly's pocket nines and then Dunlop's Ah8h turned an ace to beat Alshamah's KhQs which had flopped a king. JP Kelly started the heads-up battle with a 498,000 to 1,365,000 chip defecit but this was soon wiped out when both players were all-in preflop, Kelly holding AcTc against Dunlop's Ad5d. A flop of Td8sJd brought something for both players but the 4s and Js fell to ship the pot to Kelly. After cracking Kelly's slowplayed aces, Dunlop then lost a huge pot when he and Kelly were all-in, both chasing diamond flush-draws, which hit on the turn but Kelly's king-high flush was much better than Dunlop's Jack-high version. This left Dunlop with just 19,000 chips, slightly over one big blind. Obviously Dunlop was all in blind for the next couple of hands, winning them both but his luck soon ran out when his 4h9h was against Kelly's QdJh on a board reading QhQcTc6sKs. Trip Queens more than enough to beat the nine-high of Dunlop and Britain had it's first-ever WSOPE bracelet winner in JP Kelly. This was Kelly's second bracelet after he won a $1,500 Pot-limit Hold'em Event in Las Vegas earlier in the year. The £136,803 first prize here was enough to take his career winnings to over the $800,000 mark. LOL remember when JP use to sit at the table reading Harrington whilst playing £10 rebuy rookie tournament at Luton...never knew whether he was serious or on the wind up...Class act though Sir... Oh and well Blessed OBV.... Title: Re: WSOP-E 2009, sponsored by Betfair Post by: TightEnd on September 23, 2009, 01:46:33 PM Meet the final five of the WSOPE £2,500 PL Hold'em/Omaha
Play ended late last night in the WSOPE £2,500 Pot-limit Hold'em/Omaha Event with just five players remaining, each of them in with a big shout of taking home a coveted WSOPE bracelet and £104,677. Men 'The Master' Nguyen was born in Vietnam in 1954 but claimed political asylum in Los Angeles in 1978, before becoming an American citizen in 1986. Almost as famous for tutoring numerous successful poker players, including cousins David Pham and Minh Nguyen, as he is playing, 'The Master' is a feared opponent at the tables. This will be his 66th WSOP cash and a win would be his 7th bracelet and take his career winnings over $9,300,000. My favourite for the win today. He starts the day in third place with 268,000 chips. Mats Gavatin is the overnight chipleader with 448,000 chips in his stack. The experienced Swedish pro has now cashed nine times in WSOP events, including an impressive four cashes in Las Vegas this summer. At time of writing, Gavatin has live tournament winnings of $653,446 with over half of them coming from his victory in the 2005 EPT Irish Masters tournament. Richard Gryko is popular figure on the UK poker scene and should have plenty of support from the rail, being on home soil. He starts the day with 329,000 chips, enough to put him in second place, and in a good position to win his first bracelet. This is his third WSOP cash, with his most impressive being in the 2006 Main Event where he finished 50th from 8,773 entrants for $164,932. He's in good form, having won the £1,000 GUKPT Main Event in Luton in August 2009 for a cool £88,850. Erik Cajelais is another experienced pro, representing Canada. This is his fourth WSOP cash with his best result being a second place finish in a $5,000 Pot-limit Omaha Event back in 2007. In 2006 he took down the $5,000 Five Diamond World Poker Classic for $430,730 which makes up a large percentage of his $1.4 million career winnings. This cash is Cajelais' first of 2009. Robin Keston is England's second representative at this final table and despite being the short-stack with just 63,000 chips, could cause an upset. An experienced player, this his Keston's 11th WSOP cash, his most recent a 4th place finish in the $10,000 Pot-limit Omaha Event in Las Vegas this summer, good for $196,993. This is also his second WSOPE cash, having placed 7th in the 2008 Main Event. Canadian Erik Cajelais took the spoils at yesterday's WSOPE £2,500 Pot Limit Hold'em/Omaha tournament. Cajelais faced the likes of Men "The Master" Ngyuen, Richard Gryko and Mats Gavatin as he returned for the final. Despite being heavily out-chipped as the final got underway the man from Quebec fought his way to the front to claim the second bracelet of the 2009 WSOPE. Cajelais cuts a striking and imposing figure at the poker table. The usual image of a poker player may be one of a person who is not in the greatest shape. Cajelais, on the other hand, sports a physique that would put many top athletes to shame. It seems mind and body are in good order for the man with an impressive list of big tournament results in recent years. Once play reached the heads-up stages yesterday Erik had managed to overturn his chip deficit to become a dominant chip leader over Swedish pro' Mats Gavatin. Gavatin put up a brave fight but the writing was on the wall in that contest some way before the official conclusion. Cajelais told the WSOP; "I felt like I really, really, really wanted to win. I had to do everything I could to win, and today I played well and the cards came out my way." But he played down his physical fitness by noting; "I think once you reach 50, 60 or 70, then maybe fitness is a factor. But if you are young and in decent shape, it should not be hard to play for long periods." There wasn't much time for Cajelais to enjoy his new bracelet and £104,677 prize money. He had already registered for the £5,000 Pot Limit Omaha event which began during the latter stages of event 2. Cajelais quickly joined in the action in that tournament, despite being blinded away for the first two levels, in an attempt to re-build his stack. We'll have the news and results from that event here at Betfair very soon. In the meantime here are the official cashing players from the £2,500 PL Hold'em/Omaha event: 1. Erik Cajelais (£104,677) 2. Lederer, Boatman and Kimber make WSOPE £5,000 Pot Limit Omaha final The world's Omaha specialists have been out to play for the last two days at the WSOPE. The £5,000 Pot Limit Omaha tournament was their stage and it's been an eventful lead up to the final. Howard Lederer is once again deep in a WSOPE event following a 9th place finish earlier this week. Alongside him are Barny Boatman, Jeff Kimber and Robert Williamson III. They've all got to get passed chip leader Jani Vilmunen though. The list of final tablists certainly reads like a list of players you would probably want to avoid. There are bracelets, titles and a wealth of experience on offer from the remaining nine which would leave the average player quaking in their boots. One player who will feel she should've been in the final is Sandra Naujoks. Naujoks managed to bubble for the final table after being rivered by Jani Vilmunen. Naujoks held 4c,4s,10c,8s on a tasty looking flop of Ac,4h,5d. Naujoks bet out with her set of fours only for Vilmunen to make the call. The turn looked like a harmless 9c and, as it was soon to transpire, the card actually strengthened Naujoks position with a flush draw. It also served to encourage Vilmunen who was holding 6s,3c,7c,8d. Naujoks moved all in and, with what seemed like half of the deck as outs, Vilmunen made the call. Naujoks was in great shape to win the hand until a cruel 3d fell on the river to give Vilmunen the straight. Some notable players who won't be returning for the final later today include Tom 'durrrr' Dwan, Tony Bloom, Joe Beevers, Barry Greenstein and Noah Boeken after they were all eliminated yesterday. Dwan and Bloom will be comforted by a £12,713 return on their investments. The final nine will take their seats at 2pm UK time with the following chip counts: Seat 1: Robert Williamson III -- 64,000 Seat 2: Ville Haavisto -- 249,000 Seat 3: Howard Lederer -- 320,000 Seat 4: Jeff Kimber -- 133,000 Seat 5: Dan Hindin -- 320,000 Seat 6: Aarno Kivelio -- 608,000 Seat 7: Jani Vilmunen -- 899,000 Seat 8: Roberto Romanello -- 306,000 Seat 9: Ross Boatman -- 180,000 £204,048 and a WSOPE bracelet await the winner. The first day of the 2009 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event has come to an end. A total of 156 players from more than two dozen different nations paid a £10,000 entry fee and competed in the first of two starting flights. £10,000 (GBP) is equal to about $16,000 (USD). After more than 12 hours of play on day one, Brian Powell, from Louisville, KY USA emerged as the early chip leader. The day was filled with several highlights. During an early break in the action, WSOP President and Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack presented poker pro Jeffrey Lisandro with his prize for winning 2009 World Series of Poker “Player of the Year” honors. Lisandro, who won a record-tying three gold bracelets in events earlier this year in Las Vegas, received a whopping three buy-ins into future WSOP Main Events. He will freeroll the 2010, 2011, and 2012 world poker championships, courtesy of Harrah’s Entertainment. Lisandro’s award is valued at more than $30,000. A short time later, Jani Vilmunen, from Helsinki, Finland was officially presented with his first gold bracelet in a special ceremony. Vilmunen became only the second Finnish player in history to win a WSOP title when he earned his victory (and $330,000 in prize money) in the Pot-Limit Hold’em championship held the previous day. The ceremony honoring Vilmunen was the final such observance of the year. In 2009, for the first time ever, all WSOP gold bracelet winners were honored with ceremonies in what promises to become a popular WSOP tradition. The day officially began with Doyle Brunson performing the traditional “Shuffle Up and Deal” honors. Jeffrey Pollack introduced Brunson by saying, “Doyle was there in Las Vegas at the very start of the WSOP forty years ago. Doyle was also with us when we started WSOP Europe three years ago in London. And, we are proud to have him with us today.” Predictably, Brunson’s introduction received a standing ovation from players and spectators. But the spotlight was certainly eclipsed if not stolen outright by none other than 11-time WSOP gold bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth. Replicating his grand entrance into a WSOP event earlier this year held at the Rio in Las Vegas, something which has now become a Hellmuthian custom, the poker bombast was clad in full regalia as a Roman gladiator and rode through Leicester Square in Central London on a chariot drawn by a white horse. As if that was not enough pomp and circumstance, Hellmuth was encircled by several muscled centurions and concubines wearing white dresses. “It’s great to be me,” the poker legend mused. Hellmuth’s grand arrival brought a mix of gasps, laughter, and puzzled stares from the thousands of people gathered around London’s theatre district witnessing the spectacle. Next, Hellmuth entered Empire Casino much like Nero burning through Rome, oblivious to the ongoing tournament and taking his seat at the televised feature table. The bizarre spectacle was ornamented by an army of faux Roman soldiers erect and pretty girls standing at attention, while trumpets blared. Meanwhile, Doyle Brunson, who was positioned at the same feature table with Hellmuth and had his back to the entire Romanesque ordeal, could only muster half smile and shake his head with an unconcealed sense of bewilderment. Notable players who survived day one included – Chris Bjorin, Farzad Bonyadi, Chad Brown, Doyle Brunson, Todd Brunson, Brandon Cantu, Tony Cousineau, Eric Friberg, Peter Gould, Phil Hellmuth, John Kabbaj, Alex Kravchenko, Liz Lieu, Mike Matusow, Jason Mercier, Scott Montgomery, Men “the Master” Nguyen, Nick Schulmann, Barry Shulman, Erik Seidel, Phil Tom, and Marco Traniello. Notable players who did not survive day one included – Jeff Madsen, Hoyt Corkins, Dario Alioto, Max Pescatori, Robert Mizrachi, Roland de Wolfe, Vanessa Rousso, David Pham, Huck Seed, Barny Boatman, Phil Ivey, Dario Minieri, and Andy Bloch. The WSOP Europe Main Event continues tomorrow – on Sunday. It’s not too late to still register and play. Players may register for WSOP Main Event championship as late as the end of Level 2, on day two. Registration is projected to close at about 3:40 pm on Sunday. World Series of Poker Europe championship event coverage and results continues tomorrow and will run daily through 2 October. -- Nolan Dalla Title: Re: WSOP-E 2009, sponsored by Betfair Post by: iwillwinlots on September 27, 2009, 08:33:13 PM is there a live feed for wsope?

Interesting I feel Quoted from pokernews.com's excellent coverage: Quote: "Camel Gets the Hump Not because he's lost a big pot or anything -- but Keith "Camel" Hawkins, newly moved to the upstairs feature table, has fallen foul of the TV crew. As is common among poker players, he was perched on two chairs, stacked one on top of the other, but this was apparently preventing one of the cameras from seeing the relatively diminutive figures of Men Nguyen and Arnaud Mattern across the table. "But my back and neck were hurting," Camel was complaining to the director. Nevertheless, he eventually gave in and now has just one chair like everyone else." I hate this kind of thing. Keith is an unsponsored professional player who stumped up his own 10k to play in the event. He may or may not be pleased to get the TV coverage, but he's at the Empire to win the 800k. If he has a bad back and wants to sit higher, or stand up for that matter, then he should be allowed to do so. I can't imagine the director asking Phil Hellmuth to lower his chair because he's too tall, or not to get up and walk around the table as it spoils his shot. Can you imagine a director running onto the pitch and and asking the defensive wall to move so they can get a better shot of the player taking a free kick? Players like Keith need to focus and concentrate at all times, they need to be physically comfortable and they certainly don't need to have to deal with conflict or interference from outside parties. Of course the TV coverage is important, and some concessions, like holding the cards over the cameras, and being miked up, have to be made. But I don't think TV crew should ever be approaching players and giving them directions during the game. If they have an issue they should approach the TD and let him decide if it is appropriate to ask a player to do something. Maybe there are times when it's really necessary, but ESPN have made enough poker shows by now to know the score. Poker players come in all shapes and sizes, some sit still and some move about. They should set their cameras in such a way that they can record the game with minimal disruption to the players. Maybe they should have asked Men the Master to sit in a high-chair, he certainly throws his toys out of his pram often enough". Title: Re: WSOP-E 2009, sponsored by Betfair Post by: tikay on September 29, 2009, 11:09:32 PM Great Post Tighty. I alluded to the same thing about another Televised Tourney a week or two ago, & was curtly asked "are you real?". Poker players ARE inconvenienced by some TV Crews, & that especially goes for ESPN. A little give & take on both sides would go a long way. The players have accepted the inconvenience, now the TV Crews have to cut them a bit of slack, too. Before play began, by the way, ALL players were instructed that ANY Logos on Hats MUST be removed, or Taped Over. And the Tourney was delayed 20 minutes whilst the Logo Police checked every player. When the players are not getting a penny of Added Value, how can a TV Company tell them what they can, & cannot, wear? The ironic thing is that it was an ESPN guy who suggested I double chaired because there apparently are zero cushions in the Empire Casino. These guys really do nt give a damn about poker or poker players. Read the ridiculous stories Joe Beevers tells in the thread on THM. Bastards. If I'm lucky enough to win, I will make sure the victory interview is worth listening to! I'm sorry to admit I busted Julian ;scarymoment; with AA v 88 with about 40 left. I finished with 330k which is slightly above average and I'm hoping I spend as little time as possible on the feature table tomorrow and as little time playing with Arnaud Mattern as possible too. Hawrilenko, who won more than $1 million for first place in Event #56 at this year’s WSOP ($5,000 buy-in Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em) enjoys a slight chip lead as play now enters Day Four and players have finally reached the prize money (36 players still alive). Some facts about MATT HAWRILENKO: · Hawrilenko is a 27-year-old poker pro. · Hawrilenko is also known as “Hoss-TBF.” · Hawrilenko is 27-years-old. He is a graduate of Princeton University. He earned his degree in Public Policy Administration. · Prior to becoming a poker pro, Hawrilenko was an options trader. He worked for the Susquehanna Financial Group, which has fueled a number of highly-skilled former WSOP gold bracelet winners, including Bill Chen, Jay Sipelstein, Eric Brooks, Jerrod Ankenman, Matt Glanz, and Rep Porter. · Hawrilenko made three final table appearances at this year’s WSOP. · Hawrilenko won is first gold bracelet on July 2nd and collected $1,003,218 for first place. · Hawrilenko won the third-highest first place prize at this year’s WSOP. His career WSOP earnings now total $1,288,948 – with WSOPE Main Event still pending. Title: Re: WSOP-E 2009, sponsored by Betfair Post by: tikay on September 30, 2009, 03:09:44 AM TWO NOVEMBER NINE FINALISTS – ANTIONE SAOUT (FRANCE) AND JAMES ANKENHEAD (ENGLAND) – STILL IN AT WSOP EUROPE Two players who made it to the final table at this year’s WSOP Main Event are still alive in London. Two “November Nine” finalists – Antione Saout and James Ankenhead – remain in the top 36 and have reached the money. France’s Antione Saout is currently ranked 24th in chips. England’s James Ankenhead is ranked 30th in chips. Both players hope to at least match Russian Ivan Demidov’s impressive feat from last year. Demidov, the runner up in the 2008 WSOP Main Event also final tabled at WSOP Europe in 2008, finishing third. POKER LEGEND DOYLE BRUNSON COMFORTABLY IN MIDDLE OF THE PACK, WITH 36 PLAYERS LEFT How cool would it be for Doyle Brunson to win a record-tying 11th WSOP gold bracelet in London? Just about everybody on the poker planet is pulling for “Dolly,” except his opponents perhaps (and even a few of those would certainly make Doyle their favorite pick if they can’t win themselves). Doyle remains “the Man.” There may be thousands of quasi-Cincinnati Kids out there, but there is only one figurative Lancey Howard sitting in our game and he’ll sit down tomorrow with about an average-sized stack of 246,500 hoping to write yet another memorable chapter in what has been an astounding life. Doyle has now made it into the money in the WSOP Europe Main Event, proving yet again that he hasn’t lost a step after sixty years in the game. His play tomorrow will be followed closely by countless fans around the globe who look to him for inspiration. May we all have Doyle’s grit and determination when we reach our twilight years. Go Doyle! BRITISH FOOTBALL STAR TEDDY SHERINGHAM STILL ALIVE IN WSOPE CHAMPIONSHIP English football star Teddy Sheringham is hoping to become a two-sport champion. The famous 43-year-old footballer, known primarily for formally playing for Manchester United and England’s World Cup soccer team, remains very much alive in the WSOP Europe championship. Sheringham, who resides in London, currently has 272,000 in chips, which is about average for this stage of the tournament. What's Sheringham's gooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaal? To win. LAST WOMAN STANDING AT WSOPE – LIZ LIEU FIGHTING FOR HER FIRST WSOP WIN Liz Lieu has been called “the best female poker player not to have won a WSOP gold bracelet.” While some may argue that distinction, there’s no disputing Lieu’s incredible table talent. She has played high stakes poker for many years and has performed quite well in major tournaments. Lieu, from Las Vegas, is the last remaining female player in this year’s WSOPE Main Event. If she wins, she would become the second female winner at WSOPE. The first year of the tournament, Annette Obrestad, from Norway, won the championship. Lieu has some serious catching up to do and must perform well on Day Four, which begins tomorrow. She currently ranks 26th out of 36 players who remain. PLAYERS NOW IN-THE-MONEY – DOYLE BRUNSON, DAVE “DEVILFISH” ULLIOTT, STEVE ZOLOTOW, CHRIS BJORIN, JOHN KABBAJ, BARRY SHULMAN, DANIEL NEGREANU, MEN “THE MASTER” NGUYEN ARE STILL ALIVE Several former WSOP gold bracelet winners remain very much alive in this year’s WSOPE championship. This is one of the most star-studded tournament fields of the year, which promises to provide an exciting final two days for poker fans all over the world. NO REPEAT CHAMP: LAST YEAR’S WINNER, JOHN JUANDA ELIMINATED EARLY ON DAY THREE; INNAUGURAL WINNER ANNETTEE OBRESTAD ELIMINATED MID-DAY Both of the previous WSOP Europe champions were knocked out on Day Three. The first star to fall was John Juanda, from Las Vegas. The four-time gold bracelet winner, who was the defending champ in this event, fell short in his quest for a repeat victory. Just a few hours later, 2007 champion Annette Obrestad followed Juanda to the rail. This now guarantees that the 2009 Main Event will produce a new winner. BIG POKER NAMES CONTINUE TO FALL Notable players who did not survive day two included – John Juanda, Todd Brunson, Ben Roberts, Freddy Deeb, Jani Vilmunen, Joe Beevers, Antonio “the Magician” Esfandiari, Annette Obrestad, Amnon Filippi, John Tabatabai, Philip Tom, Farzad Bonyadi, and others. GETTING READY FOR DAY FOUR – DOWN TO 36! The WSOP Europe Main Event continues play at noon on Wednesday. Play on Day Four will last until the final table (nine players) is reached. World Series of Poker Europe championship event coverage and results will run daily through 2 October. I've seen some funny stuff from TV crews, having once full on been twatted in the face when a dealer announced 'all in and a call' and the posse of what must have been former documentary makers sprinted over to the table like keystone cops oblivious to those in front of them. Worst thing I have seen was deffo the first WSOPE when a player was away from the table and a director thought it would make a great shot for a cameraman to sit in his sit and get a still shot of the players chips. The player couldnt get sat down and ended up having his hand declared dead in the blinds. I think perhaps the biggest issue, and this was prevalent in the WHUPC thread, is that there seems to be a really strong assumption that we should all be delighted that the camera crews are there and more than happy to be paying for them with our rake, that they are doing us a big favour and we need them more than they need us etc. gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Camel Title: Re: WSOP-E 2009, sponsored by Betfair Post by: Tonji on September 30, 2009, 08:53:36 AM Run good Camel ;goodluck;

Yep, while I dont think he is necessarily a great player, he certainly is a 'proper poker player' and not some halfwit celeb who barely knows the hand rankings, he takes it very seriously. Played against him at the Vic and were it not for the fact that Fran came and had her picture taken with him, you almost forgot he is a former football star, he fitted in well. Jason Mercier was just too good, I drew the worst possible seat and he really pounded me on the last two tables. I had one chance where I might have 4 bet him with 99 but didn't apart from that his reads were super spot on every time. I'm 90% sure I am going to duck out of the EPT. I am exhausted (only slept about 4 hours a night for the last 2 nights) and mentally not up to playing another week long tournament. It would just be burning your money and mine. I will let you know on Friday for sure. GL Praz and James in the final. Title: Re: WSOP-E 2009, sponsored by Betfair Post by: Marky147 on October 01, 2009, 01:06:13 AM VVWP Keith ul :(

Barry Shulman, father of November WSOP Main event finalist Jeff Shulman, beat Daniel Negreanu heads-up over five hours play to win the WSOP-E Main Event, £801,603 prize money and his third WSOP bracelet. Negreanu had started the final as the shortest stack but over the course of play eliminated all bar one of the players on the way to finishing second. James Akenhead was eliminated in ninth. After pushing all in against Chris Bjorin's pre-flop raise, with A-Q, he saw Negreanu re-push behind him with K-K. Kings held to propel Negreanu to third in chips. Shulman then eliminated Matt Hawrilenko in eighth place before Negreanu took over. He eliminated the next five players to steadily climb the chip counts and get heads-up with Shulman. In order he knocked out Antoine Saout, Bjorin, Ristola, Mercier and Praz Banzi who finished an excellent third. Negreanu held a 6m-4m chip advantage at the start of heads-up play. Over the course of five hours both players held the chip lead for an extended period of time. Twice Shulman was all-in for his tournament life and twice he managed to survive. The real drama came very close to the end though, and was described on the Betfair live updates: Our final two saw a 5 8 J flop and Shulman bet 300,000. Negreanu responded by raising to 900,000. And Shulman responded to that by moving all in. Negreanu turned to the rail in the hope that they might help him with his decision. “So you all wanna go home, right?” he asked them. “I’m not saying I’m gonna lose…” “Ah, I shouldn’t listen to the rail. I call.” On their backs. Negreanu: Q J Shulman: A A Oh dear. But wait! Turn: to massive screaming from the suddenly very awake crowd — J But wait some more! River: … … … A! The hand gave Shulman the chip lead for the final time and the two players each picked up a pocket pair on the next hand. Shulman made a set with his pocket tens to beat Negreanu’s pocket fours. The £495,589 second place money for Negreanu was enough to make him the all-time tournament winnings leader with over $12,000,000 to his credit. 2009 WSOP Europe Main Event Final Table Payouts 1. Barry Shulman - £801,603 2. Daniel Negreanu - £495,589 3. Praz Bansi - £360,887 4. Jason Mercier - £267,267 5. Markus Ristola - £200,367 6. Chris Bjorin - £150,267 7. Antoine Saout - £114,228 8. Matt Hawrilenko - £87,074 9. James Akenhead - £66,533 Title: Re: WSOP-E 2009, sponsored by Betfair Post by: NoflopsHomer on October 02, 2009, 04:40:13 PM Shulman ran incred on the final.
