Title: US Open Golf
Post by: AndrewT on June 16, 2010, 12:39:33 AM
Just got a mail through from Ladbrokes - from 8am tomorrow morning they are going 10/1 on Tiger for the US Open - best price elsewhere is 8/1.

Is this where Flushy is going to invest his $300k?

Rhys Davies @ 150-1 looks tremendous each way value to me he has been 2nd last two times out and although he hasn't played much professional golf in America he did win ten college tournaments over there and should be able to handle ridic quick greens. also had money on Luke Donald @ 30-1 (could have got 33-1 but 30-1 pays an extra place first 6 vs first 5) great form at the moment and good steady player who should be suited to us open conditions. wouldn't put anyone off tiger though 10-1 is huge on a course where he won by an enormous margin in 2000

ive taken stewart Cink and rory mcilroy each way a couiple of weeks ago, at the prices n ow Inthink Cink is coming into form at just the right time and has form on similar courses to this.

The best tactic might be to have no bet pre game but make a selection after a cple of rounds as the US Open has a histoiry of winners that were in the top 5 or 10 after 2 rounds.

I have a fe quid on thslese 4, only a few as I'm saving my money for the World Cup:

Woods
Choi
Cink
Cabrera

these are the 4 I usually take, not going on form as I haven't studied anything due to world cup this month.

This is just a wee interest for watching after the 7:30 game of world cup.

Not really studied much on this due to the world cup, and will only watch once the footie games have finished.
But had a couple of bets just for interest, all to win and top 5 finishes

David Toms @ 210
Mike Weir @ 120
Ishikawa @ 350

Might have a couple more bets after the first 2 rounds

What are the USPGA playing at having the players finish in near dark conditions!!!!!!!! I can only imagine it is to try and get peak time air coverage for the TV but so unfair for the players leading the tourny. Golf is hard enough
without having to putt through long shadows and Tee off straight into the sun

That said it didnt seem to bother Dustin too much.

Fair play to Tiger, great round of golf yesterday, brings rushing back all the good memorys of Tiger at his best. That said I will be laying Tiger at 4.5  ;hide; ;hide; ;hide; good luck Flushy you do need it.

Really disapointed with Lefty yesterday his swing went to peices IMHO I hope Butch has time to sort him out before today.

I ve still got a decent sweat on G-mac who can play well on a sunday and finish out a golf tournament. I dont know how Dustin will handle it on a major sunday ???

This is my least favourite of the four "majors" because of the USGA's dogged determination to ensure that scores are high.

Nobody has ever won a US Open with a "double-digit" or -10 total, and maintaining that tradition seems to be their #1 priority to the detriment of the tournament as a spectacle imo, unless of course you enjoy the schadenfreude aspect.

Tiger was -12 last time the Open was at Pebble Beach!

I just backed Johnson at 9/5 here at the Bellagio.

Not sure whether to keep it or trade with it.

Yes, it's 2.8.

I had everything I had in my pocket on it - $1500. Although I doubt they would have laid much more anyways.

Dr Dempsey correctly said I should have approached Ivey and told him about it, he could have got 100k on!

They chopped the price after my bet to 6/4, a mate had 2k on that and it went to 6/5.

Massive ricks on sports that aren't NFL, MLB and NBA are pretty common in Vegas.

Last year I backed Vettel to win some grand prix at 5/1 after he qualified on pole and was 2.4 on betfair.

i'd be tempted to trade, so easy to get a 9 on this course from what ive seen this week.

I would keep it.  He is a totally different player on this course to anywhere else and I cant really see why he isn't a shade of odds on.  Obviously having to think about it going into the final day of a major can mentally kill some players but the pressure didn't seem to be getting to him towards the end of the round yesterday.  Ultimately you are on a player that is three shots clear on a course he loves and has strong mental association with.

Title: Re: US Open Golf
Post by: chrisbruce on June 20, 2010, 04:28:28 PM
What can mentally can kill some players is sleeping on the fact that you are 3 shots clear in a Major tournament that could set you up for life if only you can stay 3 shots clear!!!
Its a lot of thinking time between finishing your 3rd round and starting your final round.
This course has the potential everywhere for tripple bogeys etc and it wont take much for the wheels to drop off.

Either way I am looking forward to a late night watching golf that will definately have some drama to come, while also trying to win a WSOP seat on stars.

Yeah I dont doubt that but if you have bet at 9/5 and are trying to decide whether to trade or not then it is a case of assessign the price on BF at this time which is 2.04-2.06 I believe (am in states at moment so cant check).  I would say that on balance laying 2.06 would be giving too much EV away.

Stuck £10 on Lefty @ 13/2, he then set up an Eagle, an johnson tripled!

Lefty fails in the eagle and the birdie and only gets a fuckin par!

Only 3 back now tho.

Only runners I have left are:

Mickelson for £75
Woods for £90

I just found out Dustin is a distant relation of Jean van de Velde.

Funnily enough I was just thinking about that myself.  When I was a young odds compiler working for Victor Chandler I backed VDV for that at a 125-1 pre tourney and then with mates in the office at all rates down to about 7/2 in running for more than was prudent given what I now know about bankroll management.  The resulting meltdown affected my punting for about nine months after.  I am on Johnson here at 10-1.  Hopefully I have learnt something over the years!!!!

no way a player should be 1.90 before the start of a major in the last round even 3 shots clear. 1.98 on betfair was a lay. and will always be in my eyes.

Group B / US Open 2010 / Winner
Dustin Johnson   Lay   11295905826   20-Jun-10
19:45       1.98   200.00      1.98   20-Jun-10 19:45

no way a player should be 1.90 before the start of a major in the last round even 3 shots clear. 1.98 on betfair was a lay. and will always be in my eyes.

Group B / US Open 2010 / Winner
Dustin Johnson   Lay   11295905826   20-Jun-10
19:45       1.98   200.00      1.98   20-Jun-10 19:45

knew it would go out, but not that fast and far.

Either post it before the start of the round or keep quiet imo.

Have you ever heard the phrase "after timer"?

to answer your question, yes i have heard the phrase ''after timer'', did you want me to post this before the start then? as you can see the time of the bet place.

all i was saying, no player in a major, even 3 shorts clear should be 1.98 IMO.

no problem. i'll keep it to myself next time.  ;booboo;

Dont worry about the after timing surely EVERYONE has done it at some stage on here.

Just irritating that I've had a grand on Johnson and this guy comes on after he's collapsed telling us what a terrible bet he was.

If he had posted his opinion two hours earlier I might have traded out (I wouldn't but you get the gist of what I'm saying)

Get it quietly.
