Not in the same scale - but Celtic selling vuvuzelas in the club shop didn't please me. They've been taken off the shelves now apparently. Title: Re: The 'stupid decisions made by my Football club' thread Post by: bobby1 on July 27, 2010, 08:45:47 PM On 20 October 1976, Maradona made his professional debut with Argentinos Juniors, ten days before his sixteenth birthday.[1] He played there between 1976 and 1981, before his £1m transfer to Boca Juniors. Joining the squad midway through the 1981 season, Maradona played through 1982, and secured his first league winners' medal. Whilst playing for Argentinos Juniors, English club Sheffield United put in a bid of £180,000 for his services but the bid was rejected.
What acrually happened was we bid for two players, Maradona and Alex Sabella and were told that the asking price was X amount which meant we could only afford to sign one of them, we chose Sabella instead of Maradona. Sacking Robson wasn't the problem IMO, it the guy who took his place.
Agree about Les Ferdinand. Buying Tino Asprilla, cost us the title. Title: Re: The 'stupid decisions made by my Football club' thread Post by: mondatoo on July 27, 2010, 09:39:52 PM He deserved a lot better treatment then to be sacked 6 games into a new season

Re Employing club legend Gunn again after relegating us to the third tier for the first time in half a century, then becoming the laughing stock of the whole country for a few days last year. Title: Re: The 'stupid decisions made by my Football club' thread Post by: TightEnd on July 29, 2010, 10:32:58 AM the list is too long to remember all of them
Going back to 78, sacking Jimmy Bloomfield (because he couldn't get us from top 10 to top 6!!) and replacing him with Frank McClintock, who promptly took us down Most of David Pleat's signings. One of them, Ricky Hill was signed on a three year deal at 35 with a proviso that if he was released early he'd not only be paid off but thay he would be provided with a Sierra Cosworth and a second car as compensation!! He left after a year when Pleat was sacked. Replacing O'Neill with Taylor. To be fair any manager replacing O'Neill would have struggled. Taylor had £18m to spend from Heskey and Lennon sales and spent £5.25m on Ade Akinbiyi, and the rest on journeymen. Even now when I see him as our record signing in the books I cringe. Furthermore the fee is unlikely to be broken ever! Taylor bumped up the wages of the whole squad when O'Neill left. By the time he "lost" the squad and we went down we were stuffed financially Signing Dennis Wise. A cancer on team spirit, La Manga incident and then he and the excrecable Eric Hall sued us and took us into administration The way my club handled administration, with regard to its long term suppliers, and the way it did so on the sly just before points penalties came in. Ugh. Not too many in the last three years fortunately, but they're coming. It wouldn't be my club without them. Listen, I cant stand the guy, but Souness in his prime would piss all over Gerrard. Players are getting fitter all the time, the game is quicker now, players get less time on the ball and teams are more organised. I think alot of players that are held in a high regard from the past wouldn't stand out in modern day football. They were just good for their time. In nearly every sport the performances advance as time passes but as there isn't any way to measure it like the 100m we rely on other people telling us how good players were and older people tend to think the football that they watched was better. It's nice to look back and think that a player was great but in reality Souness was probably Glenn Whelan standard and just a level above the players he played against. Title: Re: The 'stupid decisions made by my Football club' thread Post by: The Baron on August 06, 2010, 01:42:45 AM Gerrard vs Souness is a tough one. Souness is better in the very middle of the park yes. Gerrard is more influential through his peak years and better all around, especially as an AM. Champs League final as a make shift RB, 30 yard screamers non stop for about 5 years plus the ability to stick one up the opposition and pass like a hero, the list goes on and on. He's not nearly the player now he was between 25-28 but Souness was arguably never that good.
