Post by: kinboshi on August 19, 2010, 10:08:29 AM get desk top million times better than any lappy Erm, they can be better - in terms of getting more memory, processor speed, etc., for your money. But less useful if you're on a train, want to take your computer into the back garden, etc. Horses for courses really. A Ferrari might be 'better' than a Transit van, until you need to move a sofa and a fridge-freezer... Title: Re: OMG Not another new Laptop Thread. Post by: kinboshi on August 19, 2010, 10:11:02 AM Acers seem to have a bad rep, but I have bought two and they've been excellent for me.
Try acerdirect.co.uk The second one I got was an 'A Grade' one. Nothing up with it at all (it hadn't been used, but the box had been opened and so they couldn't sell it as 'new'). Ended up with a laptop that would have been £800+ for £550. Title: Re: OMG Not another new Laptop Thread. Anyone bought one recently and can recommend one, or should I just look on acerdirect...

I currently have a 5537 which has the Core 2 Duo proc, 4GB RAM, 500GB HD, seperate graphics card etc and it was 489+vat from staples 8-9 months ago. The equivalent tosh or sony would have been 700+!! Title: Re: OMG Not another new Laptop Thread. Post by: the rage on August 19, 2010, 08:16:48 PM I've got a Samsung R730 which i bought from Amazon about 4 months ago. So far so good. It's my first laptop so can't really compare to others. The battery life doesn't seem too brilliant, but, i use mains power mostly anyway. Other than that, i'm well pleased with it so far. It cost me £451 at the time. The prices seem to fluctuate a bit though.

The weight of Girgy's new laptop is 3.52kg (unpacked weight) A hefty Brachiosaur could weigh as much as 73 metric tonnes according to the people who find bones and make up these numbers. If you wanted to make a pile of Girgy's laptops that would collectively weigh the same as a big Brachiosaur after his dinner, you'd need 20,000 laptops. With that many laptops you could use a brand new one every day for over 50 years. If you were to do the same thing with the worlds heaviest rabbit, you'd run out of laptops within a week.
