did you watch the klitschko fight last night? i got all excited about seeing a decent heavy weight fight, total anti climax. Title: Re: DeGale vrs Groves Post by: donttiltboy on March 20, 2011, 03:03:29 PM please win groves
Title: Re: DeGale vrs Groves Post by: DaveShoelace on March 22, 2011, 07:25:38 AM Fair play to them both having the fight this early into their careers.
When did DeGale transform from the next Frank Bruno to the next Naseem Hamed (as a talker not a fighter?). He is way too thick to pull off the talker role. It all looks a bit fake but British boxing does need a spark like this. DeGale is a very classy fighter, if he doesnt get drawn into a scrap I fancy him to win, it wont be a knockout if he does. Title: Re: DeGale vrs Groves Post by: kinboshi on March 22, 2011, 09:21:08 AM Definitely staged.
Some of the comments are a bit cringe-worthy, from both sides. Like children who are imitating adults, but can't find the words they want to use to make a decent argument so resort to name-calling. But, it'll be a decent fight. Title: Re: DeGale vrs Groves Post by: millidonk on May 21, 2011, 09:48:18 AM Definitely staged. Some of the comments are a bit cringe-worthy, from both sides. Like children who are imitating adults, but can't find the words they want to use to make a decent argument so resort to name-calling. But, it'll be a decent fight. LOL. Definitely staged... I know Groves personally and i can 100% guarantee this is no way whatsoever staged! Groves did Degale in the ABAs, and the winner of that fight should really have gone to the Olympics... this was when they both boxed out of the same gym, after the loss Degale refused to go back there. Apart from that in short, they just don't actually like each other. I do admit some of it has been a bit childish but if you have watched ringside Groves turned up in a suit and did his best to rise above it. Unfortunately on other appearances DeFail brought him down to his level. With all the Ugly kid, smelly breathe etc comments. Degale can barely string a sentence together and just makes himself look like a mug when he tries to outwit George. It has got so heated they have actually bet the purse on it now. Groves has been sparring really hard out when he was in Miami with southpaws who would piss on Degale, you might have seen him doing press conferences with filthy black eyes. He has also worked on the mishaps of the Kenny Anderson fight which he still won by stoppage. Gonna be an absolute BANGER, i can't wait!! About to crack open my first drink. Obviously i am massively biased and am betting with my heart here, the price they have Degale is redic insulting to Groves!!! Can't see George being given the decision if it goes to points so I am on @4s to win my KO/TKO/Disqualification At the end of the fight if Groves won Degale would show no respect and just go off sulking, but i don't think that would be the case if Degale won. LETS GET READY TO RUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMBLE! Title: Re: DeGale vrs Groves Post by: TheChipPrince on May 21, 2011, 10:14:45 AM is anyone really gonna pay £15 for this panto?

Errrrrr. yea. Would i pay to watch the fight built as the biggest event in British boxing since Benn v Eubank.... 22 wins between them, zero losses where the two have a genuine hatred for each other. One Ohhhhhhh has to go. Tough choice.... Wlad Klitschko vs Haye July 2nd, might give that panto a miss..... is anyone really gonna pay £15 for this panto? not me. i don't understand how the f this is PPV Would i pay to watch Cleverly vs Kuziemski or the rest of the undercard in isolation? no. What do you want a fight to have if you are going to pay for it?? or do you just never do ppv. Title: Re: DeGale vrs Groves Post by: millidonk on May 21, 2011, 10:28:52 AM Groves not the smartest either- he bet the purse at evens when 3s is readily available I know Degale should lay it off, Boxers are not known for their brains though. You have to earn being able to sell PPV subscriptions and they haven't done anything yet. Try selling this level of fight in America, they'd laugh themselves silly. Try selling this level of fight in America, they'd laugh themselves silly. 100% agree with Cleverly and I agree with Degale fighting mainly jokers, apart from Paul Smith who is a very good fighter. Groves has dispatched a few that had never been beaten and put ppl down who had never touched the canvass. Obv we are not talking Pac man levels here, but I still think this fight should have been on a bigger bill, but in all honesty i think if it wasn't on the card then not one single person would get ppv for this. Why would you? The Main Event is a joke and the rest of the undercard is a joke, so they had to sell it somehow and they know a lot of people want to see this fight and have wanted to see it pretty much since the day they both turned pro. The fact that they are both unbeaten, hate each other, the bitter rivalry, the fact that the under dog has already beaten the fav and just their differing styles i think will make for a great fight. I can't wait. Hope its not just my bias and loyalty to Groves blinding me on this one. Ding Ding. Groves is the bigger puncher but good luck trying to land a meaningful blow on DeGale. DeGale will wear him down for a late stoppage.
As for this being on SBO just LOL. It barely merited SBO status with Braehmer v Cleverly on the card. Mayweather is probs the best technical fighter i have ever seen, but Manny is the best out and out fighter in the world imo. Love that lil guy. Looks like he couldn't hurt a fly. Title: Re: DeGale vrs Groves Post by: kinboshi on May 22, 2011, 09:25:15 AM In other boxing news DLH just checked into rehab http://msn.foxsports.com/boxing/story/Report-Retired-boxing-legend-Oscar-De-La-Hoya-enters-rehab-052111 If it wasn't for the rivalry it would've been a pretty boring fight. I guess we just have to dream that pretty boy floyd stops wimping out and making excuses amd him and manny get it on, oh and fades jail. How sad is that about De La Hoya? A bloke who appears to have pretty much everything in life, made more money as a fighter than anyone (I think) and has continued to make loads since retiring as a promoter. Would have been one of the last boxers I'd have expected to have to go to rehab. Title: Re: DeGale vrs Groves Post by: kinboshi on May 22, 2011, 09:28:18 AM Also how sad was last night's PPV? Is that really what PPV boxing is about? Two, British/European standard boxers on a card with nothing to really get anyone that excited at all.
I pay enough for my Sky Sports subscription, and I'd expect that card to be part of it. I suppose they have to generate tikay's wages from somewhere. So Khan's last fight and now this one. British fight fans are generally shrewd enough to know when they're getting ripped off. Chisora walked past Fury and said soemthing which resulted in a bit of a scuffle. Fury ripped his shirt off and gave it the old incredible hulk impression which was pretty funny and got himself thrown out. Was certainly more entertaining than 'funtime' Frankie Gavin. Title: Re: DeGale vrs Groves Post by: DaveShoelace on May 22, 2011, 12:02:49 PM I actually thought the main event was really good, not the tear up they promised but a fascinating chess match of a bout. Very well executed game plan from the Groves camp (and that for me was clearly a team effort) and I had him a couple of rounds ahead, DeGale took too long to get going. I'd watch a rematch.

Would you pay for a rematch? Anyway, other boxing news - Bernard Hopkins gets the Light-Heavyweight belt, and becomes the oldest World Champ ever at 46 years. Doing press ups in the ring, while Pascal was late coming out of the corner was immense. WP Mr Hopkins, great boxer. In reference to my original comment of 'its deffo not a PPV' I still think it is deffo not a PPV. PPVs should only be reserved for world level title fights, and very good world title fights at that. This was just a good match up between two up and coming domestic fighters. (I disagree with any boxing on Sky being a PPV btw, robbing swines) Title: Re: DeGale vrs Groves Post by: Bazzaboy on May 22, 2011, 05:00:30 PM I actually thought the main event was really good, not the tear up they promised but a fascinating chess match of a bout. Only if it was part of a proper PPV card. They should both go their separate ways for a year or two and let the rematch build, ideally they will meet for a World title in a couple of years time. DeGale should go and find himself a proper trainer in the meantime.
