Thought i'd start a new thread after my experiences in Istanbul this week. Out there they eat whats known as a Wet Burger. Its bascially a wet burger, soaking wet! Imagine a dirt burger that you might buy after a night on the piss, then drop it in a puddle for like 5 mins and then eat it! [  ] delish. Def the dirtiest pissed up munch i've ever eaten. Whats the dirtiest food you have ever eaten? Pics would obv be good to go with the story

I can remember in Faliraki a few years ago they had a doner kebab machine about 2 ft wide. It was huge.

The thought of it spending all day cooling down before being gently reheated for the piss heads was truly vomit worthy.

I had one every night obv.

When I saw Amatay had started this thread, I thought, ban coming!

It also brought back terrible memories, as did the phrase wet burger!

Anyway back to food!

My aunt made this 'orange chicken' dish once. It was fking minging. I wanted to spit it in her face and slap her.

Ate rotted shark meat in Iceland (Hakarl or something like that it was called), it was the most disgusting thing I have ever had. It just tasted fucking rancid as you would expect, don't know why people eat it out of choice.

They bury underground to rot for a couple of months and then cut it up and hang it for another couple of months (http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/sick/sick0021.gif)

Posted these before of fried insects in Cambodia, they tasted ok actually. Got a few other things I've had I'll post about another time.

Here you go mate. They taste ok but I often get the shits from them so give them a swerve as a result. They also cut through the bone with the knife instead of filleting them so you can often find yourself crunching on bone which I hate.

Really????  Of all the places I have spent anytime I thought the food in Taiwan was the worst of anywhere.  I worked there for six weeks and they wanted me to go back full time and the food was one of the major reasons i turned them down.  Everywhere else in Asia I have enjoyed but Taiwan....urgh!!

i lived in hong kong for a year, and the street food was rank (chicken feet puke), however the "cheap" open air resteraunts in the new territories were incred.
  Thailand street food is awesome, however expect food poisoning :)   tried the deepfried insects woodsey refers too (only when hammered obviously) and they were suprisingly nice, but tried black scorpion and that was like eating coal, pretty disgusting tbh

I always stick to stuff that is cooked fresh in front of me now and I haven't had a problem for a while, generally noodles and stuff that is fried freshly.

Also the barbequed fish is normally ok, they cover it in salt first which makes it look a bit rank after cooking, but you just remove the skin/crust and as long as its fresh its normally ok.

whilst in Bosnia in 94 we had kids coming up to our camp offering to go to the shops and buy us drinks and sweets beer and brandy etc,

one time they said give us ten dm and we will go get you a pizza 4 of us bargain !!!

hour later they came back with 4 kebabs saying they could get no pizza.

it was really nice after days and days of ration pack food this was awesome.

a few days later we saw the kids and asked them to go get us some more kebabs........they said sorry but they could get no more ? why ? cos they only had one  dog!!!

i think the town we was at was called jelleua ...not 100% we was the first company to move so far north at the time we  acquired an old factory and then an abattoir.

There was a kebab shop that sold them for £1 in Nottingham... £1.20 sounds a right rip off! ;)

One night we all wanted a kebab and the only driver offered to drive us if we bought him one, so we accepted his offer and went to our favourite kebab shop for ours and got him one of he £1 ones from next door. He wasn't happy but his was actually tasted nicer.

I live in nottingham and have never seen one for less than £2.50  :)

Have the lamb seekh or chicken tikka kebabs. The doner tastes same as everywhere else. I normally have a mixed kebab on nan bread with a combo of the first 2 mentioned.

Its an urban myth, started in Mcdonalds with a story about their milkshakes many years back.

Not entirley a myth, a disgruntled employee from McDonalds in Northfield, B'ham left a deposit in 1 one the drinks machines.

Its not just Koreans mate, they do it in various parts of Asia. I know for a fact they eat it in eastern Thailand, and parts or Laos and Cambodia too, certain ethnic groups eat it. I've been told about other places by expats that live in different parts but cannot confirm personally.

I'd guess there was no news story, I assume when she pressed charges they paid her off then she isn't allowed to go to the press etc. I knew her cousin well and her brother. I never believed it until both the cousin and brother said it was true. They never seemed to have that much money then afterwards had a brand new car and where getting an extension on there house so I assumed it was true.

Well you see Monty this is the problem I have with it. Over the last 15 years I reckon I've heard that same story about 20+ times, it always happenS to be the 'mate' of someone somebody knew and its nearly the same story every time. Its got to the stage now where I'm just yeah, yeah........

that's one thing.  it's quite another though to suggest that any branch of mcdonalds would employ not only the one guy to a) come up with the idea and b) present it to his colleagues, but also 4 others that thought it sounded like a fun idea to stand around and toss off together over a beef patty, whack it in a burger and sell it to some poor unsuspecting customer, and seems more than a little far fetched.

You'd also have to serve that burger to someone who is paying enough attention to think they have sperm in their burger and send it off to be tested.

Ok tried Balut last night. Got chatting to some American Filipinos when out on the piss and the subject got round to this, so we insta went outside and decided to have a crack, the girl in the pic troughed 4 of them while her Filipino BF was watching and he was practically honking up just watching her.

I bit into about a quarter of one, the initial taste was that of a boiled egg and them the rancid after taste kicked in, I chewed and swallowed it but my stomach wasn't  having any of it and I insta honked up on the spot, it was every bit as disgusting as you can imagine. I think it was as much due to the thought of what I was eating as the taste, but meh it wasn't staying down. I even honked again this morning when looking at the pics which brought back thoughts of the taste, but I suspect that was in part due to the booze but the pics were a trigger. Anyway here are the pics......

I was going to say that I had Goat Brain Curry in Akbars (Headrow, Leeds) the other week, but after seeing the balut post my opinion of the curry has gone from "Arrrgh, I'm eating brains" to "Please sir can I have some more, just don't give me any balut"

Oh god, I've just looked at it again to check the spelling - about to vom...

Spent most of this afternoon munching my way around a local market trying random things I have never seen before. Most of it was pretty meh, but I've finally found a local food here I like and would go back for more!

This guy was carrying around these 2 silver canisters over his shoulder attached to a stick.

He stopped me and asked me if I wanted some so I enquired as to what is was. It was some sort of curd in one canister, not sure what type maybe bean which I'm not fussed about really.

Then in the other one there was these little fruit things that look like little fish eggs, forgotten the name. Also a pot of strawberry juice, he explained he would mix them together to make a drink so I thought go on then as you do lol.

The result was this really tasty strawberry yogurty type drink that was really nice, all natural obviously.

Looks a lot more palatable than the Balut for sure. Like the last shot especially, crisp.

I went to a chinese shop in Glasgow this week, they import tons of unusual stuff. Surprised to see a giant bottle of Soy sauce for only £2.....well I got it home and it tastes more like I'd imagine Wood Dye to taste, but I've adjusted to it a bit. Is that kind of stuff the norm over there? Much more viscous than Kikkoman too...

cba with going through the whole thing.. but the balut looks a lot like the chinese 'half born' eggs I've had suggested to me in the past.

Basically the chick is allowed to germinate (correct term?) for a longer than normal period so that when you eat your egg it is 'crunchy' with bones and the like.  Not got the cahones for it myself.  Serious credit to anyone that does.

I've had the relatively standard..
- chicken heart, feet, head, liver, entrails etc
- brains (think it was sheep or pig) :actually tastes almost exactly like scrambled egg... its in a video on my blog I think, if not i'll upload later.
- 'meat' on a stick.. awesome post night out food!
- 'bamboo rat' curry/ steak/ pie... by this i mean in places where there aren't cows and even fewer dogs we refer to any 'meat' as bamboo rat.. think its a real thing...???


And like the photo above I've seen the bull's head on a stick.. still dripping... in Algeria and the like.  Little scary, but meh...


Lame scary food though - GREEN KETCHUP!!!! WTF! a few years ago Heinz decided to make haloween ketchup or something.. and despite being chemically identicle except for colouring... I just couldn't eat it.
