Title: PDC/BDO World Champs
Post by: Snowball on December 14, 2011, 06:48:08 PM
It's Christmas time which means wall to wall Arrers.

PDC-Taylor at evens looks a very good bet, I have him at around 8/13.He's been superb this year and looks really determined to win his Title back.Losing it last year looks to have inspired him to get it back. His draw looks decent enough.Coral go 10/11 but are paying out anyone you bet on the outrights as a winner if they hit a 9 darter.Boyles will refund you if Lewis wins it.Outsiders-Terry Jenkins @80s.

Looks some decent priced 1st round games to look forward to.

BDO-.I'm going to go with Waites 4/1, he's consistently averaging around 100 and it seems only a matter of time before he moves across,  he should meet Winstanley in the quarters which will be a cracker.Fitton as an outsider from the top half @25/1.

Really hope Fitton wins the BDO.  Seems like an absolutely top bloke whenever I see him interviewed on TV.

Think Burnett could nick a set of Webbby tonight so backed 3-1 Webby @ 5/2

Lewis should cruise through 3-0 @ 11/8

Each way punts on Nicholson at 50/1, Chisnall at 66/1, although of course both in Taylor's quarter.  Barney surely value at 40/1 but again in Taylor's quarter.

Phillips looks tasty at 22/1 in the BDO

Was that not before the draw???
Fancy him @7/4 to have the most 180s of the night.

The lady in question may have a tiny bit of excess Terry, though I felt she gave the walk on her all as she stepped out with Roland Scholten. Her agent has obv advised her that she's doubtful to get the post Christmas gig and she needs to make a name for herself now. Faultless debut for me! Agree Miss Adams ain't too shabby either.

Lewis somehow gets there - Heydon threw it away on several occasions - was still scoring but choked to death on doubles!

He's started to show signs of improvement to be fair.

I will be looking to take Lewis on in this tournament, Heydons bum collapsed but someone with more experience won't give him a second chance playing like that.
Unreal amount of 180's tonight.

Crazy game.  Heydon bottled it good and proper.  Can't believe Lewis was so affected by a wasp sting on his non throwing hand.  I will be laying him next game irrespective I think.

When has he showed signs of improvement? he doesn't practise enough to win it or play as many tournaments as he did when he was in his pomp!

Dennis Ovens came on stage with a Back spasm, as soon as Mardle mentioned it his price drifted like a barge.Managed to get his opponent at 7/2 with Sky and as it was in play they paid out.
After 1 leg Munch was 1.16 and Ovens retired after the first set.

Barney in a game here!

And going home.

Title: Re: PDC/BDO World Champs
Post by: Sighmuns on December 18, 2011, 10:10:06 PM
I blind-laid Barney at 1.05, then watched 2 mins and doubled my bet at 1.06...

He got CRUSHED! James Richardson... remember the name!

He took out 140 to take 2nd set, came back from 2-0 in legs down in the 3rd set to win 3-2... so that's 3-0 in sets

Just managed to pick up £6 at 500's in the outrights and feeling happy about it!

Terrible from Barney, I was just saying to a mate the other day I was thinking of backing him as a lay.  Even when out of form I though the 40/1 that as available was a bit big for him in this event, as I expected him to come through the first 2 rounds unscathed.

But that was rank.  thankfully for me I never got involved.

I have laid a fair chunk on Walsh in this game with the intention of greening out, but again what a terrible start from both players.

It did look generous as he had averaged over 100 at the GSOD and you would have thought he would have put in everything to peak for the next 2 weeks.
Honestly don't know where he goes from here as he shouldn't be in the PL.

Been having loads of internet issues bud which make posting selections and updating it a pain in the backside.  I should hopefully have everything sorted for the new year with a house move and a new ISP.

Will still try and post over Christmas for the bigger races if I see anything that jumps out at me.

I would agree with this, I took the line that it might be a slow start and Walsh might not come out the traps if he did then its an easy clickback to get out as his price wasn't really going to drop below the 1.11 that I laid at. Worse case scenario is a break even.

My style of betting is laying at short prices on betfair, but I did the same as you... laid at the start then after watching 1st set backed it all onto Walsh.

I very rarely back at short prices but I've gone with this one and have a sizable liability on French; hope our instincts are right!

Done okay in this first game by laying Walsh pre match and then backing him after he lost first set.

In the Wade v Klassen match I have steamed in on laying Wade with the same intention as I had other night to back as soon as he starts to drift after a slow start.

I don't know enough about darts to have that great an opinion on it as I only ever have a bet on televised tournaments.

I would say though that the price was based on the fact that the German lad was a qualifier/German both have pretty bad records so I understand at this stage of the tourn.

Ladbrokes were 5/6 UNDER 11.5180s in Stompe/Jenkins game- one of the most ridiculous set lines ive ever seen. Bear in mind they priced up Hamilton/VDV the same price and line- if i was match betting on most 180s in those 2 games it would be 7-2/1-5

Please forgive my clueless question as I am new to betfair

If I wanted to make today's 4 games an accumulator is that possible?

ALso modern odds (4.2 ) for example. To do the maths do people just take 1 off the price?

Scott Rand bet of the round today

Fancy King and Whitlock for the early jolly acca

9/4 with Sky as an enhanced acca

Couldn't see it better anywhere else on oddschecker

Just saw this now mate... any game that hasn't started yet you can put in an Acca with Betfair by going Multiples-->All Sports--->Darts

And yeah, 4 is 3/1, 7 is 6/1 etc, but if you hover your mouse over the price it should tell you the traditional odds

I don't know Rand too well... just based on recommendations in the thread I guess I'll only have a bet if Lloyd has a good start to get a bigger price.

The crowd is turning into basically just a joke now- load of 100iq knuckle heads who aint even watching the game. I been going darts for years and this crowd must be one of the worst, not even noticing 140+ and 167 finishes. Instead huge groups of lads singing songs across a hall to each other at 4 in the afternoon?

Just what Barry Hearn wants.

Loads of tickets sold, 25% share on all the beer sold and do you still have to buy beer tickets when you go through the door? A brilliant idea to make even more money on beer tickets sold but not drunk.

Haven't had a single bet since the day i excluded myself from all my sports accounts for 5yrs... Been hard though. Wanted to go huge on a couple of things, obv they both would have won for sick rubs.

Just gone 1-1 but to say he has no chance against anyone is just wrong- he is obviously the biggest scorer in darts and can take games away from people in a matter of minutes. Cant think of anyone id want to back at evens against him other than Taylor

Ok maybe not no chance, but he clearly has mental problems when his opponent is anywhere near him

You can watch him score heavy AND hit doubles, then the first trip sends him all over the place. He seems to get it together in breaks, but semi's/finals is not the place to be choking

He won prem league and 2nd in Worlds and Players this year! I agree he has a bottling tendancy, but he is good enough to get away with it against nearly everyone and probably anyone bar Taylor cos he just scores so heavy.

Should have had my house on it. The price was huge.

Been a great match. Peterson is the comeback kid. Would be great to see him come back from here but i doubt it.

Anderson is by far the best scorer in darts but as it has been mentioned his head goes down massively when the pressure is on. Still I would always put my money behind him, even against a modern day Taylor.

These sheep are all over the cricket at test level. Pretty embarrassing last year when Tendulkar is getting jeered, then various sections of the crowd who have little knowledge of the game start goading each other because the Indians in the ground do not react to their insults. Pathetic!

um..... exactly ....... i think

Wadey is renowned for doing enough, more importantly doing it against the guy he is up there with.

What about the premier league when Taylor threw 2 9 darters? His stats that night were amazing and he finished 2nd. The stats wont always win you matches.

For players like Wadey its all in his attitude. From his interview pre xmas he seems really in the right frame of mind, and with his side of the draw it is going to get gradually more difficult, which is a good thing.

Just think you rate Wade far too highly. He's done some awesome things in darts, but always failed on the biggest stage... I seem to remember you saying he would have beaten Taylor after the way he played in his last match and I disagree with that too. Not often, if at all, that you'll see Taylor losing to a player averaging 95.

Definitely think he's in the running for it, but I make him no more a favourite than Anderson, Lewis and Whitlock. Think it's absolutely wide open.

Out goes the biggest gimp in darts.

WP Huybrechts.

Could be some really awesome betting opportunities from hereon in. Could do with Chisnall getting through tonight as I think he will represent a huge laying opportunity vs Huybrechts.

In the top half:

Chisnall/Huybrechts
Wade/Anderson

Bottom half:

Lewis/Jenkins
Wade/Part

Looks an awesome line-up this year.

Hard to argue which section is more difficult tbf.

Copy and paste fail.

Don't forget that Whitlock/Anderson knocking each other out means it'd be one of them vs one of Huybrechts/Chisnall so you could argue that a Wade/Lewis semi is tougher and makes up for the slightly weaker quarter final opponents?

Either way will be a cracking few days of darts. No idea who the favourite should be right now.

Title: Re: PDC/BDO World Champs

Wade has a tourny avg of 92.96 with 8maxes in 3 games
Chisnall has a tourny avg of 98.78 with 11 maxes in 2 games

Arguably Chisnall would be a tougher semi

Wouldnt be on Wade with counterfeit against Lewis and think  winner of Anderson/Whitlock v Lewis is the final

Title: Re: PDC/BDO World Champs
Post by: Dubai on December 29, 2011, 05:30:22 PM
Wade appears to have cruised through but interestingly all 3 of his opponents had sub 90 averages and that includes a lot of legs where they dont get to a finish, so either Wade freezes them or he has ran good. Dont think King John is good enough to take advantage tho, he is basically a decent journeyman who is gonna be consistently averaging low-mid 90s- tourny avg so far 90.98 in 3 games is probably a little under what he is capable of, but needs to avg 97 to beat Wade id guess.

Tbf to Wade, as much as I don't think he'll win it, like Guy said he's won his matches comfortably so in some respects knocking his average is useless (admittedly I have done it in this thread). Think we'll have a much better understanding of where he's at after the quarters as I'd expect a 97/98 average at least vs Part.

Chisnall known choker as well. Fair enough he beat Taylor, but he's not exactly known for being able to hole out at the crucial moments. Would fancy Wade vs him personally as Wade knows how to get the job done.

Think the fact you can look at it and say, "oh I fancy A, B and C because of these reasons" whilst someone else can say, "I don't, I fancy X, Y and Z because..." is a great thing. Has made this World Champs the best imo as normally its one name from two at most rather than from perhaps 3-5 players.

Given some great betting opportunities too!

Jenkins averaged nearly 103 last night against someone who plays very very slow, I thought he would struggle last night but seems he played his best Darts in years.
Hopefully he can keep it up for at least the next 2 games.

Had a couple of small outright bets. Hamilton @ 46.0 and Huybrechts @ 20/1.  Former just seems way too big.  Chisnall likely to suffer from letdown a bit tonight and didn't actually play that well the other night and he is a big enough scorer.  Huybrechts bet may be a bit muggy tbh.  I don't know that much about him but was massively impressed by the way he went about his business tonight and it didn't seem to fluster him at all.  He could be unexposed and 20/1 seemed fair to me but all with the proviso that backing a relative unknown after a big upset win is pretty much the nut worst thing you can do in sports betting.  Front of the market all seem to have flaws to me with possible exception of Lewis.

From 180 perspective u just want everyone to hold throw every leg. I think the games gonna go 6sets+ anyway, just dont want Hamilton switching too often for 177s- which makes u wanna kick the nearest object

spread is 11.6-12.2 so not much damage done by 1 quiet set

Was a good bet I think, nice tip Dubai.

I wanted to put more on at one point when it became apparent one more set was all we needed, but the prices werent there so I ended up getting out for £0.

Fun ride though! It's like betting on goals in Football with South American commentary- when what you want to happen happens everyone goes crazy!

Overs in next match?

Title: Re: PDC/BDO World Champs
Post by: Dubai on December 29, 2011, 09:45:07 PM
They averaged 2.75 maxes per set, so need 5 sets. Therefore took 5/6 about a theroetical 1/5 chance

Post by: Dubai on December 29, 2011, 09:47:41 PM
Backed Anderson over 7.5 mixture of prices 4-5 thro 4-6, prefer that to backing over 12.5 as think more chance Anderson scores 8+ and finishes 12 or lower than the match having 13 or more and Anderson 7 or less- i make the latter a nigh on million to happen

His conversion rate when first dart is in T20 is scary. If he misses the first one he just lobs the other 2 without care or he would avg 110+ every game

Under 12.5 180s Part/Wade 8-11
Over 132.5 highest checkout in Anderson/Whitlock 8-11
170 finish in Anderson/Whitlock 8-1 NAP
Lewis straight up 4-9

Title: Re: PDC/BDO World Champs

Some simple maths for Anderson/Whitlock game later

Anderson has 29 maxes in 72 legs, 1 in every 2.48 legs
Whitlock has 24 maxes in 58 legs, 1 every 2.42 legs

Spread companies have the midpoint of total legs as 30

Therefore we can expect 12 maxes from both players on average. (30/2.48 and 30/2.42)

Yet the over/under is 20.5 and in some spots 19.5- it looks high compared to others but the maths suggests overs is a real good bet- I'd be a buyer at 20.4 with the spreads as if the game is real close and goes 5 legs in a lot of sets could huge upside- and even if somehow someone won 5-0 the downside will be smaller then potential upside imo

Exactly, the first 5 sets were rotten.I'd be surprised if Wade was much more than 95.He throws a lot of strange Darts, switches when he doesn't need to and sticks when their's a Wall over the t20 Bed.

OMFG, only just caught up!!

It's 4-4 in sets, 3-3 in legs and the door bell goes... obv I send the wife to the door as I am glued to the tv and sat on the edge of the couch screaming my bollocks off... next some bald geezer walks into my loving room and says " hi, i'm [can't remember name] do you fancy coming over tonight for a few drinks", it turns out it is my neighbour who I have never actually bothered speaking to.. I immediately press pause, I have one last glance at the tv, then turn back to him with a confused look and say " the darts is on [long pause] and also its Newcastle v Liverpool... not tonight mate " Then my wife asks him if he would like to seat, I am close to spontaneously combusting at this point as he reels off this and that about his life as I sit their twitching like an ex junkie.

Anyways he finally leaves. Did leave me with one amusing anecdote though. When i first moved in my mate Dave was round and we were kicking a ball around in the back garden, the neighbours kids were also in their garden and an impromptu game of over the fence footy volleyball began. Anyways unbeknown to me the kids have gone in and told their parents Dave and Dave live next door, my missus was working away at the time, so since September they have been going around thinking that they  had a burly gay couple living next door! Oh behave.

Anyways incred darts. Hope Whitlock Anderson lives up to my expectations later.

LETS PLAY DARTS!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolute belterama of match that, gutted by the outcome I've always been a fan of Part from his lakeside days and the commentary he used to do when he switched to the PDC, not a big fan of Wadey at all.

Hated when the crowd were barracking Part just because he paused to compose himself, then booed his next few throws at doubles.

Mentally went on walkabouts. I backed Part at 3/1 when Mardle announced it then laid the shit out of Part when they had the break at 4-3 as I felt it had come at EXACTLY the right moment for James Wade.

oh and I know, aftertiming and bla bla bla!

That performance won't be good enough vs Lewis or Jenkins as it stands. He can't just switch off for a few sets at a time against those guys.

this was his wife who he has 3 kids with, binned her in 2010.

Then he started going out with a woman darts player from Melbourne called Jasmin Quinn

The woman on the tele now is his new missus called Stefanie Luck a Geman darts player who has a kid of her own. https://twitter.com/stefanieluck (https://twitter.com/stefanieluck)

The boy doesnt mess about. Everytime he moves up the rankings he moves onto another chick. Takes this down he could be in Lewis' or Huybrechts' league.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying here. Wade is as prone to off days as anyone, he's the first to admit it. When they are both on it I'd have Anderson over Wade, when they are both on an off day its anybodies.

Wade will need to play much better if he is to win the tourney, I'd fancy Lewis to beat him comfortably.

Title: Re: PDC/BDO World Champs
Post by: millidonk on December 30, 2011, 10:05:21 PM
Guy, A lot of what you say is right, darts is a sport like not many others where if you have an off day/ your mind isn't in the right place, there isn't a team of players behind you to pick up the slack. its massively about the mental aspect. Anderson and Wade have both been known for being prone to going to bits, but Wade has overcome a lot of his prior issues imo, Anderson still lets his head drop whenever he loses a set or a couple of legs and doesn't enjoy a battle. Anderson is the better scorer but Wade is a better finisher imo and is still a very good scorer, both playing at the top of their games it is very close and i wouldn't like to call it. Wade has a weird ability of being able to up his game to match each individual opponent. Certainly don't tear your betting slip up yet!

Jenkins always displays the perfect mental game as we can see now. Barney of the last few yrs shows one of the worse, i once saw him throw 3 darts at the board at the same time before as he was so fed up. Can't find the clip on youtube though.

Lewis is sickly good, but go on the BULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.

Unless you are playing Kirk Shepherd in the final you can't average less than 94 and win, the stats prove that- whilst it ain't all about scoring it don't half help!!

Title: Re: PDC/BDO World Champs
Post by: Dubai on December 31, 2011, 10:56:37 AM
From what I remember the player with better average wins the game ~80% of the time, so it's obviously the best starting point to working out who wins

Title: Re: PDC/BDO World Champs
Post by: Dubai on December 31, 2011, 11:16:07 AM
For the stats fans- 3rd round 8/8 winners had best average. Quarter finals 4/4

Obviously longer the game the more likely average=win due to lowering variance

A breeze coming across the stage, Lewis started to complain when he had darts to level it up. The crowd jumped on him, wade was not happy though knew he would win whilst Lewis was chucking his toys out. 2 nil wade, then a 10 minute break.. Now it's best of order!

I was just looking at this myself, I think Hamilton is a bet at 9/4.  I certainly can't have Lewis at 2/5 and will prob be a layer with the intention of trying to bet back if he makes a slow start, but giving how he has come back from adversity before I am not sure the market will overreact in the final, I guess your sort of looking for bots to get the drift going if he goes a set or 2 down.

i think betting lewis 7-0 and 7-1 and hamilton to win isnt a bad approach,  lewis is a great front runner

I'm on over 58.5 140+ at evens, think only danger is a 7-0, 7-1, 7-2 which is reflected in price. I've  also had small bet 7-0, 7-1 Lewis although I hate him.

Title: Re: PDC/BDO World Champs
Post by: outragous76 on January 02, 2012, 07:58:58 PM
agree the 7-0 is the bet to go for and i know nothing about betting! Price seemed huge given Hamiltons potential to buckle

Ladbrokes have massive ricks on this market- they try not to pay out, as their odds compilers obviously keep forgetting that 180s are tracked separately on the PDC site and therefore forget to add them onto the spread. Yesterday Hamilton was 22.5 o/u- he had 20 140s and 10 180s- they settled it as a loser but after 5 phonecalls have changed it to a winner after i explained what had happened. The 58.5 tonight could be passed in as little as 8 sets, the spread is around 20 wrong so its a total max bet- the only downsides are hassle of getting paid out and Hamilton switching to 19s and throwing 137s/139s for fun

I even rang up before the game yesterday to get rules of market read out to me so it was on tape :)

Cliffs- Go all in on over 58.5 at evens

what happened in the martin adams match, chris mason going crazy on twitter?

You've probably found out by now, but from what I understand Mason was bleating on about some match being fixed and it costing him 11k etc. Read on a darts forum that it's a real possibility it was fixed as the lad who lost is supposed to have previous for this kind of stuff.

Then as I understand it Adams was being interviewed in the players bar and was pissed and making a show of himself, which given he's now on the board of the BDO wasn't exactly the smartest thing he could have done.

Mason's a cock either way.

hi mate,

Its a good watch as its pretty balanced and shows both sides in the split to be very right and also very wrong in equal measure from the naivety/love of the game of the guy running the BDO to the way the new breed spotted an opportunity but struggled to get it off the ground. It doesn't paint some of the players in a great light if you view them as deserting the ship but makes it understandable that they were trying to maximise their earnings

The person Olly? who run the BDO and banned the players from virtually across the globe and had no choice but to form the PDC. When they went to him with a proposal they were railroaded out. Can't blame the top players, they couldnt make money/ a living from darts anymore and just wanted a fresh approach, with the BDO but again were left hanging.

Max bet tomoro- Kist to beat Hankey, averaging miles more than him in every round, will score far too heavily and Hankey been hugely inconsistent and drifting darts both ways- Hankey flattered by opponents averaging even worse than him in low 80s. 8-11 with Blue square, cant see it lasting- i was maxed to 625,similar bf but with commission

Agreed, Kist has been a sensation at this Tournament tho I think Hankey will up his game I don't think that will be much more than a 92 average.
If Kist averages/doubles the same as he has in the previous 3 games he wins.
Also like the over 13.5 180s line in the other Semi.

4/7 Kist, the only thing pushing his price up is his inexperience. If he had played at the latter stages of a Tv Tournament before then he would be 2/5 or lower.
Hankey said in his interview that if he plays like he did last night then he will get hammered and I think he will step it up a bit but imo it's all about what Kist does.

I think Kist will play a lot better tonight as O'Shea won't adopt the slowing down tactics like Hankey done yesterday which clearly affected his game.
His tournament average is more than 4 points better than O'shea and his doubling is also more consistent.

Kist legs played 71, 180s 21=1 180 per 3.38 legs
O'Shea legs played 58, 180's 12=1 180 per 4.83 legs

O'Shea 140s =1 every 1.26  legs
Kist 140s = 1 every 1.2 legs

Tournament average

Kist=95.92
O'Shea=91.64

Toatal legs spread is around the 45 mark so going by the above averages it would end 13-9 Kist.Total 180s is 8/11 over 17.5
Kist to win is 10/11 and most 180s evens

This was the report on the official BDO site after Ana beat Gulliver.

Nine times world champion Trina Gulliver crashed out of the championship, whitewashed 2-0 by Russian Anastasia Dobromyslova in just 31 minutes.
In a repeat of the 2008 world final, the Somerset third seed failed for the first time to reach the final as the unseeded East European played mind games to topple the Golden Girl.
Arrogance and self confidence exuded from the Russian but Gulliver let her darts do the talking, as took the opening leg against the throw after Dobromyslova missed 10 doubles.
A maximum steered the Golden Girl to the next, the snarling black-shirted Russian taking the third on double 12 and in the fourth she set the pace, levelling the match on double 12 and turning to salute the crowd, the Somerset player bemused by her opponent's behaviour.
Dobromyslova, clearly slowing the game and playing the crowd, missed double 18 for a set-winning double 18 and a further three for the same double but it was catching - Gulliver missing bull for 81 to steal the set. The Russian made no mistake on her return to the oche, nailing double 18.
The unseeded player – who beat Gulliver in the 2008 world championship seemed to grow in confidence with her mind games over the tense nine times world champ, who fluffed darts for doubles in the opening leg of the second as the Russian exited on 56.
Gulliver was first to the double in the next leg but missed double five for 95, Dobromyslova missing bull for 121. The Golden Girl missed a further two chances as the underdog clinched her favourite double 12 to move within a leg of victory.
Again in the third, the player from Cheddar requiring 105 saw her form desert her as she hit 92, opening the door for Dobromyslova to move into her second final with a match-winning 50.
Both players failed to hit the 24 per dart average, illustrating the tension which had affected both competitors
