So we're down to two tables of 10, and apart from the extremely rapid exit of Marc Goodwin (who warned us in the lobby as we were signing in that this might happen) they've settled down and not much is happening.  We saw tikay back in the main area being filmed nodding sagely which although presumably an integral part of the filming process does look a bit silly, there's no denying it.

Jeff Buffenbarger is OUT as well - short stacked after his  6d 6h flat call got a move-in by Z. Aslam on the small blind with  Ac Tc - which he called.
On the  Qd 9s Jh flop, he said, presciently, "Straight?" and sure enought the 8 came to put him nearly down to the felt.

So his actual exit came when he flat called on the button with  Qh 7h.  The flop came  Kh 8c 6d, and there was a threeway check.
Turn:  6h   C. Constantinou bet 4k which was nearly enough to put Jeff in, but he reluctantly decided to go for it and threw the rest in.
Constantinou's hand:  Qd Kc

And with no heart coming (Ks river) the Michigan Man is out.

Yes, the Oooh signified Bob taking nearly every chip in Steve Jelinek's stack.  With Aspades Kh.  Against  Ahrt Ac.

There was one  Kd on the flop, then three low hearts (no real panic for Steve's AA yet) but the  Kc on the river set the table a-wincing.

Sure enough - Steve Jelinek down to a couple of thou and muttering something along the lines of, "I don't mind in a £20 rebuy.  Well, actually, yes I do..."

ActionJack and Z. Aslam get it all-in on a 5h Qh 4d flop...  But they both had KQ (the Kh being in AJ's hand).  He said "Just give me one more heart on the turn, just to give him a heart attack.  Then we'll let him off."  Unfortunately (from our perspective) there were no tension-producing cards to follow on the turn or the river.

Here's another interesting split.  There was a button raise and a big blind call (from Wayne Fitzpatrick, we think).
Flop:  5h 2s 3h    check-check
Turn:  2h   And all hell breaks loose - Wayne bets out, raise from the button to 6k, re-raise another 15k from Wayne, call.
RIver:  8c   Immediate all-in from Wayne.  Call.

It's  Ac 7d for Wayne, and an extraordinary call with  Ahrt 7c for this gentleman:

Barely minutes later, and Joe Grech eliminates Wayne Fitzpatrick who was making a bit of another move with Kh 6d when the board looked like:

Unfortunately, Joe felt his Th Jc to be good and called.  And won.

Incidentally, we are now down to 11, and therefore hand for hand (the final is 10-handed here).  Personally, I like there being odd-numbered finals to avoid the unevenness oat the hand-for-hand stage (who wants to be five-handed when there's a 6-handed table next door?) but little rules are different absolutely everywhere.

He folded pocket sixes to a preflop reraise. Opponent showed fours.

Then he called a bet with an ace, moved in on the raggy flop, but found his assasin with a set.

ActionJack just went fishing with a minimum raise preflop (blinds are 1k - 2k at present) with the old  Ad Aspades.  No one even looked for a second like they were going to nibble on the bait though - he won himself 3k in blinds and showed the table with a resigned look.

Meanwhile, Peter the Bandit wins in quite another way, with a pre-flop re-raise all-in which pushed M. Shafiq right off.  Peter showed 5s 7s and tikay rather loudly said, "Was that a misread?"

Hmmmm, she was not in the best of moods on Thursday  ::)

In a momentary lull in the all-ins, hi to everyone joining us via the miracle of the internet - including Mum Legume (you are getting to be quite the computer addict, eh?)

It is pretty quiet here apart from the final two tables but we are assured that there is some kind of comp here this evening, a £50-er which will presumably start to attract players in an hour or so.  But the Final Table is being set up out of the way of that (so only a brief obstacle course through the room to get to our update computer/tournament clock)

To put this in perspective, the hand involved a battle of the blinds with Joe raising from the small, and Pete calling in the big.  They both checked the flop, Joe bet 7,000 on the turn (was called), and the decisive check by Joe on the river gave Peter an opportunity to try to nick the pot right there with a large all-in bet (26k or so).  But it turned out he held Qs 8c and Joe's Ts Td were good.

Ken Broad is OUT in 9th place, winning £2,050

In a big battle of the blinds, Ken Broad flat called on the small, and Joe Grech made a 6k raise from the big.  After a few moments, Ken pushed all-in for the remainder of his stack (approx. 17k) and Joe beat him into the pot - he held  Aspades Kd.
Ken held:  Ac 8d.

A King came out first card and with the rest of the board never threatening Joe's lead, he adds another 20-something-thousand to his stack and busts Mr. Broad.

I was short (7k) with pocket 10s - decided to reraise AJs utg 3.2k and went all in. AJ calls with AQ (is that a relative?) and Q on turn - game over! btw even on a wedding anniversay the answer was still no!

Whahoo! tikay here - tell the big Man to get the job done.

In a well-spectated hand, AJ raised from the cutoff to 7,700 (blinds are 1,500 - 3,000).  C. Constantinou on the big blind thought that was suspicious (as, I have to admit, did we) and re-raised another 15k.  Paul moved all-in.  Then a little flurry of chat went off:
 
CC "I didn't want you to do that."
AJ "I'll be sick if you beat me, just fold."
CC "So you have the Aces?" and so on and so forth.

Eventually he called and Paul showed the  Ad Ac, up against  9d 9s, and with a 6 7 Q 4 6 on board ActionJack is in quite healthy shape.  Chip wise.

The chips went in with Shafiq walking away from the table leaving a Q-T on the showing. (hmm, lots of -ing words there. Bad grammar must bee that.)

In another couple of places the payouts are going to start heading upwards ending in a double from third to second, and another double from second to first - with this kind of structure I'd be surprised if there were no business discussed... but at this stage that clearly hasn't come up, for with the exception of that extraordinary A2 hand there's been little superagressive play.

With Joe taking yet another chunk of chips, he's more than double the next player and looking ever so confident.  With ipod installed, he even appears to be humming along.  Easy for some, eh?

Bob raised 11.5k from the cut-off with Qh Qs

C Constantinou reraised to 50k with Ac Ks

Bob moved all-in.

C Constantinou called the remaining 11.5k.

Here's bubble boy bandit who lived up tho his name when he tried to steal a pot off Joe Grech with Q-8.

Flop was very dangerous for actionjack with two hearts, but he managed to survive.

Dennis Troake is OUT in 5th place, winning £4,920

In an absolutely ENORMOUS pot with, guess who, Joe Grech, I saw the tensest bit when on the river Mr. Troake pushed all-in for his remaining 50k.
The board:  8h Tc Ac Qc Aspades.   So not at all scary.
The pot:  Already around 200,000.

We knew something was up as the spectators were leaning in... and eventually Joe called, with a straight - Jc Ks.
Dennis flipped over Ad Kd and it was all over - he goes to be interviewed by Rhow and Joe stacks his mountain of chips.

From the permanent big stack, to the permanent short one - George Geary survives yet another all-in.  Okay, so he was ahead of C. Constantinou's 5s 5d with his Qc Qs - but hitting quads was surely over the top...

And here's the man himself, quietly in fourth place, but still in.  I reckon people are going to give up putting him all-in soon.

On a board of 5d 6s 7h Qh Constantinou bet 30k, and was called.

The river: Th and again Joe called the 35k bet which came here (albeit after a bit of a dwell) showing Qs 8c - which was good, as it turned out, against C. Constantinou's Qc 4c.

ActionJack just picked up a tidy pot (also at the expense of Constantinou) with A5 on an A 6 5 10 7 board.  He bet the river, and showed when he was called, which was good enough as his opponent mucked.

There's no folding preflop (at least while I was standing there) - with every pot being around 50k Paul goes from being a genuine threat to being potentially all-in.  Just now, having lost a couple of sizeable hands in a row, he checked to Joe Grech with a  Qs Qh Qc 9s 3d board, called the 50k river bet with  8d 9h and his full house was good.

On a flop of 7c 8d Aspades, Joe bet out 40k or so, and ActionJack called.

The turn was the 7s - AJ bet 100k, and Joe Grech dwelled for a good long time before passing.  I have to tell you that Snoops got a peek at his hand, and it's nothing like you might think... "Cheeky monkey!" is all he was prepared to say...

And at the last count, it's one of those even-er moments..

I would love to bring you some riveting description of a huge tide-turning pot, won at showdown with a huge call, with maybe a side of card-throwing or some great banter.  But sadly, I can't just at the minute - with the blinds at 4k - 8k they have slowed right down.  But it is refreshing to get a bit of proper heads up play.

Why does this always happen?  I make some serious sounding comment on the game and then it does something to prove me oh so wrong -

Joe Grech is down to just 85k after a huge pot involving his  Qs Qh and Paul's, er,  Ad 8d.  The fact that the majority of the money went in on the 8 8 4 flop might clear it up, if you were wondering how that happened...

Keep up the good work, it sounds like a really good HU match.

They're back, and the heads up pendulum has swung back in favour of Joe Grech.  Paul is reduced to one stack of chips - although they are all the top denomination 10,000 red chips, so that should be a comfort.  But it's funny how a big wall of chips always makes one feel secure.  In any case, Joe just took down three in a row, none huge but momentum appears to be on his side, for now.

Wow, it's really cool that somehow I've been allowed to sit right by the heads-uppers.  I can see Paul's cards a lot of the time... makes for fascinating stuff.  Anyway, pretty big pot last hand:

Paul raised to 25k preflop, Joe called (there's a lot of preflop raise-calling).
Flop: Ac 2c Qc  Joe checks, Paul bets 20k, Joe raises to 50k.  Paul calls fairly quickly.
Turn:  3c.  Joe bets out 15k, called by Paul.
River:   Aspades  Joe bets out 80k and this is where it gets interesting.  There's loads of chat - "I'll show you either way." "I really don't think you've got anything."

Well, in the end Paul called and showed Qd 6d.  The winning hand.  Joe held 7h 4h.  The mind boggles.

Ah the fruit of Snoopy's reporting is here, in tidy little notes which put my heiroglyphs to shame... so here's the latest:

Joe is being helpful to our intrepid young reporter, and highlighting play of his hands.  For example, on an  Aspades 4s 6d flop, Paul bet 20k and was called.  Then on the turn (9h) Joe bet out 30k, taking the pot right there.  All this time Joe was talking to Snoops, including the sage advice that ActionJack was probably only trying a sneaky flop steal there because Joe was distracted talking to Snoops.  Confused?  You will be.

Quote - Snoopy: "Do you realise me and Jen get paid the same amount however long this lasts?"
Paul Jackson:  "Yeah - so do we." 

Fair enough.

Flop: Js 3d 2s.  AJ bets 15k, Joe calls.
