Agreed, not charging £10 for the buffet AND having a late bar license puts Luton above the Vic for certain.

You know I was thinking this morning about what makes this such a good forum. I have worked out that it seems to contain all the same people that you would want to associate with up and down the country. From Red in the midlands to yoyo up north to the guys from Southampton in the south and all our new overseas friends. It seems to me that the simple formula of telling people who we like and respect of the forum has worked out. Now we must work with Tikay etc to make sure it stays that way.
I have never seen a forum that gives such genuine support for fellow players when they are near the money etc. I have said it before and I will say it again that it feels like playing an away match and knowing your supporters are in the stand....Keep up the good work. And on this occasion I mean all you blondites who make this site the success it is.

Denis

just got back from the bright lights of luton...played the £750 on thursday , amassed a lot of chips in the first two levels and then proceeded to play like a donkey in level 3 and gave them all away...played a super sat on friday and had the fortune of winning a seat in the main event....unfortunately i was (like sherriff) card dead the whole day..i never once got above 15 000 chips the whole day..a couple of notable hands...all fold to me on the button and i raise to 1200 (blinds 200/400) with k q...small blind folds and monkey harris in the big blind goes all in for his last 1300 with q 2  and hits his 2 on the turn.....a few  hands later three limpers round to me in the small blind , i have a 10 spades and raise it up....monkey harris pushes all in and i call...he shows k q spades and hits his queen,so i would like to take credit for providing a platform for his final day assault..........five minutes after this there is an early position limper , i am in the cutoff and find K K (the best hand i had all day)..i pick up my chips and count out the amount to raise , whilst i am doing this the button and small blind call....WHOA WHOA i shout..the dealer hadnt noticed that i had cards and a ruling was called for...i was then told my hand was dead..wtf...seems to be systematic of the luck i am having at the moment........anyway , the whole day was spent grinding away and with fifteen minutes of the day remaining i have about 10 000 chips left and i am looking to double up or go out , i dont want to be coming back with 6 or 7 big blinds.......utg raises and i have 10 10 in the big blind......it all goes in and the raiser calls with his a j clubs....he hits his flush and i am gone..its been a great tournament as is always the case at luton and made all the more special by the people of blonde, thanks for the support (except kev , i dont mind you bokking mr pearce but me ! ffs)great updating by tikay and mrs merton (loved the dylan references) and well played and good luck to sherriff , jp , matt and the snoopster...

And we've lost a player - David Maudlin, who'd just lost a few calling Ben Grundy's mid-position raise, only to find Nick Whiten on the big blind pushing in for 16k and taking it away from both of them -

He made his stand with 5s 5d, but Mick Fletcher found the   Ahrt Ac and knocked him out, saying, "That's the first time in five days I've seen those babies..."

Ok, I’m here and ready to ride the rails all the way to a blonde victory

Congratulations to Jen for doing a fantastic job yesterday, she made updating and carrying tikay seem easy, just like a woman!

I had good chips early in the comp, and I was playing very positively,  4th street re-raises forced me to lay down top pair a couple of times, once to a stone bluff on a massive pot, the cards never forgave me

I’m feeling a bit jaded today, probably old age and one to many mornings, so I’m content to sit in my comfy chair enjoying the updates

Good luck to Snoopster, Matt and all the blondes, the drinks are on you when the ship comes in!

Btw, did Hollis Brown play yesterday?

Title: Re: Luton Main Event - DAY TWO
Post by: Djinn on April 09, 2006, 03:36:18 PM
Sorry - No Hollis Brown...

But Ben Grundy doubles up with the  Ahrt Aspades too!  A huge old pot was already in progress against Chip Leader Ben Vinson (33k) on a flop of 7s 4d Tc.  Ben (G)straightaway moved in for his remaining 20k or so, and Ben (V) called with 9d 9s, probably reluctantly but looking at both the pot and the flop as being too tempting.

Hopefully a good night's sleep will have turned off the Milkybarkid's Tilt switch...

JP (pictured here sandwiched between J. Dahlbom (left) and Tim Gillig (black hat)) just ran into a spot of trouble bluffing Robert Garfield, who check-called the river with top and bottom pair, way ahead of JP's bluffy  Js 9s.  Still plenty of chips for him though.

From forensically analysising both these updates I now conclude that Milkybarkids has been dealt six AA's in this comp

He won 5 times and then on the sixth occasion when Julian the Ace cracker cracked them he lost bundles.

Always the way!

A belated return by me, my Lappie worked fine at the Hotel, but has been giving me grief here, but I've fixed it now.

Lovely - LOVELY - Post by Irish Denis. He's a blonde, & he understands blonde. Nicely put, thank you Denis. When the chips are down, we look after our own. Denis is a terrific guy, very successful businessman, half-competent player, to whom middle age-spread arrived late.

Booder - Dylan references? Explain, please.

Red - I'm happy to give credit to Jen for carrying me. I mean, I'm a mere waif these days. How's the diet going?

It was claimed that Booder "hid his cards" which he most deffo did NOT. The "bet line" in some parts of the tables is quite narrow, & Boo was sat, half hidden, behind the dealer in Seat 10. He was the Button, & the SB in Seat 1, the other side of the Dealer never realised Booder was in the hand, & "made up", the BB checked because the SB had made up - the domino effect took over - and then the Ruling was requested. It was ruled that the SB & BB had both "acted" (the BB had checked) & a mid position player pre-Boo had limped, so "action had taken place".

So, in effect, Boo did nothing wrong AT ALL - it was the SB who acted out of turn, NOT Boo hiding his cards, that caused the problem.

But Boo took it like the big man he is. blonde are well proud of him.

Laurent Charvet is OUT -

The Frenchman saw a chance against Dave Smith on a 6h 3d  Aspades 2s board to push for his last 6k (holding Ad 5h) and potentially take down the 9k pot.  But Dave called with  Ahrt Th and knocked him out.

There's clearly been a lot of action on JP's table, in spite of the aggressive chip leader being moved near the start of play.  Mark Bartlog, for example, is OUT, and a hefty stack remains in front of Robert Garfield.

Just now, Tim Flanders raised 2,600 from the cutoff, and JP called in the big blind.  He immediately moved all-in on the Kc 4h 6c flop, and Tim passed showing  Ahrt Qs.  He also mentioned, "I thought you were going to do that whatever came on the flop... well, maybe as long as there was no Ace."

There seems a huge groundswell of support here for sloppy in particular, but also Smithers Whiten, J P Kelly, & Matt Tyler.

Whoever wins this will deserve it, there has not been a single complaint about the structure or the clock, indeed not one bad word against Grosvenor Luton.

The only bad stuff actually went down in the Car Park, where John Hewston had his car vandalised yesterday, & Mick Fletcher tiold me that his car had been attacked too - window smashed, & Sat Nav stolen. Such is society these days.......

Luton car park setup is awful - if you've won and have to make that walk back via the alley round the side/rear of the casino, always handy to take a friend with you....

We can sort out the % in vegas mate don't worry. Just dont forget me when handing out your "golden" %s. I am only playing the series this year as a live event and I am not taking it lightly ( I am even giving up smoking before I go out there). five minutes after this there is an early position limper , i am in the cutoff and find K K (the best hand i had all day)..i pick up my chips and count out the amount to raise , whilst i am doing this the button and small blind call....WHOA WHOA i shout..the dealer hadnt noticed that i had cards and a ruling was called for...i was then told my hand was dead..wtf...

wtf indeed. was a reason given for the ruling?
how can your hand be dead because 2 others act out of turn?

vul booder

So if Boo was the button and hadn't put any chips into the pot, he still has to make action.  They can't just say because the SB and BB had acted, thats terrible.   Boo still has to act, b4 any action can take place .

Terrible ruling!!

the problem is the Grosvenor car park is too small for the casino when it is anything more than moderately busy

this leaves everyone else taking the horrible walk though the alleyway to Sainsbury's car park

Good news though is that Luton Gorsvenor is moving to a new build near J 10, on two floors with a huge card room spanning one floor

Hopefully no car park worries there

When the magistrates finally approve it that is, it threw back the application once on the grounds that a casino there would attract undesirable types for the residents nearby!!!

Couple of counts as the blinds raise to 800 - 1,600:

Blondes first, everyone else in a minute ;)

Joe Grech    14,000
Ben Grundy  70,000
JP Kelly        56,000
Matt Tyler    31,000
Snoopy       24,000 - "I made a bad call - battle of the blinds, with  Qd Jd suited I raised. Flop A A J, and he had A7.  I could have folded, I think."

We also forgot Nick Smithers Whiten, & it was in fact Smithers that busted Sheriff.

So, Sheriff out - bad luck bud, but Smithers doubles up.

that carpark is always going to be a problem on a saturday/sunday nights. once the supermarket closes the security go home and the local hoolies know that most of the cars left there are going to be casino customers who are unlikely to return to their cars until the early hours

I'd just like to add my thanks to all at Luton, they work their socks off to make it a great festival week, it's a pleasure and a privilege to play there

Phil Peters & Mr Morjaria clash.

Phil dominates with AK, & Mr Morjaria has A-J, but as always seems to be the case when the shorty dominates, the deeper stack hit's hit 3 outer, & that's that, Phil Peters is history, but he'll bounce back next week, he always does.

Andrew Lyew doubles up off Ben Vinson... Ben on the button faced an all-in of nearly 40k on the Jc 8h 4h flop.  He called with his drawing  Ahrt Th, and found Andrew with Ks Kd.
Turn:  Td
River:  4s  and Andrew can breathe out, while the chip leader loses his huge lead.

We cant get to Dave, he's at the back of a table by the wall, but he has around 50k, & is more than capable of doubling up & going on to win, or doing the lot in one hand.

No sooner had we reported on Dave Smith's healthy stack, thn this happened, against Mr Lyew.

We see this board......

 5h  5c Kh 7h Td....

After Andrew Lyew tickle bets on the end, Dave Smith quickly says "all-in", & Lyew insta-calls for the rest of his 25k or so stack. The haste is explained by their hands.......

Dave Smith...... Th 9h (for the flush)

Andew Lyew -  5d 7c.....!

Dave Smith down to maybe 30k, Andrew Lyew up to 50k-ish.

J P Kelly is back up to 65k or 70k. He's a real player - does not wait for hands, this boy, he makes his own action, & is busy, busy busy. Amazing game he has, much in the style of The Camel. The most imprressive thing about JP & Camel, & I discussed this with Camel at length yesterday, is that they LOVE taking flops, playing down the streets, & they always seem to know exactly "where they are". An amazing skill. Camel said is was not so much knowing where he was, more a case of taking a view on where his opponent was. A lovely skill to have. I guess.

The Blinds, Kev, are 800-1,600, average stack maybe, what?, 25 runners left, so probably 41 or 42k.

So the average stack is around 25BB's.

Am chatting to Rhow & the 425 Team about doing a few "In-Depth" Interviews for 425 today, who shall we do. My suggestions were J P Kelly, Matt Tyler, Rob Yong (we already did Simon Nowab a while back). And if Willie Tann shows up for the £100 tonight, I will deffo do him - we did him at Walsall - GREAT stuff, but there were technical problems & we had to bin it.

Of those still here, who would you suggest would make an interesting subject for a 425 "In-Depth", & what questions would you particularly like me to ask your chosen subject?

There you go - choose the player. Only on blonde, eh?

Just got back home after my exit.

Was going well today too - I'd gone from 15,300 to 25,000 without having to showdown a hand and Nick, sat to my immediate right, had already promised to call me next time I went over the top of him.

Last hand of the 600/1200 level, we both have similar chips.  He raised to 4,000 from the cut-off.  I flat call on the button with  Ad Td..  Everyone else folds.

Flop is beautiful - rags, no obvious draws and Ten-high.  Nick pushes, I insta-call and he turns over 66.

After some initial confusion where the dealer thinks I've folded and tries to muck my cards, he then proceeds to deal a 6 on the turn and I'm out.  If only he'd let the cards touch the muck!

Can't really ask for much more than that.  Win that hand and I'm comfortable again (for the first time in about 7 hours of play).  I'm a massive favourite when the money goes in and I can't control the turn of cards after that.

GL to the Blondies left in.

Sheriff

PS:  Funny incident then follows.  I'm out in 28th place so they announce a break while they set up for 3 tables instead of 4.  Rhowena pops over and asks for a quick interview for Poker425.  I go over to the camera, she advises that its just an update on progress.  I say to her "You do know I just got knocked out don't you?"  Cue one very sheepish looking Mrs C  :blonde:

Still, at least I got to describe a bad beat on camera.  If its shown I believe this means it is exempt from a 50p fine!

425 In-Depth - I have got J P Kelly to agree to do one, but we can do another one or two if we can find the right subjects, then we can have a few "in stock" for future shows.

Ok, I’m here and ready to ride the rails all the way to a blonde victory

Congratulations to Jen for doing a fantastic job yesterday, she made updating and carrying tikay seem easy, just like a woman!

I had good chips early in the comp, and I was playing very positively,  4th street re-raises forced me to lay down (your weary tune?)top pair a couple of times, once to a stone bluff on a massive pot, the cards never forgave me

I'd like to ask Matt how he'd like his eggs in the morning, ..but then I remembered I am married and more like his older sister....

Short stack Peter Smyth raised 7k out of his 13 total under the gun.  Small blind John Murphy thought for a minute, and raised enough to put him all-in; he followed gladly with the  Aspades Ac.  John's  Tc Ts hit nothing on the 5s7h  Ahrt 4s 9h board and he's now short.  Hand for hand, so bear with us for the action.

Ayyarr, I bokked Tim - he's OUT, and we are down to the ££££'s.

Short break now while they Re-Draw for seats in the Semi-Final.

Sad for Tim, but he's had a good run these last few weeks, & Poker is like that - just when you think it's easy, it bites you.

Rob Garfield is the big chip leader...a local Luton player he is aggressive and has a game based on bluff, fearsomely so

He learnt a lot from Teddykins, Frederick Richardson, and won't be overawed by this. He is though a quiet assassin....not a teddykins type verbals merchant

He finished third in the £500 earlier in the week, only being bettered by Bambos and Mike Magee

Hi All,

We have decided to remove a Post from this thread which was, all things consideredd, a bit "racy" and not, in our opinion, at all appropriate right here & now on this Live Update Thread.

This is a Family place, many wifes, sons & daughters are looking in to support their particular players, & we really like to keep the Updates such that nobody will be offended by their content.

Old-Fashioned, maybe, but that's the way it is.

Please bear this in mind when Posting.

Thanks Guys!

Andy Lyew, an oriental gentleman in his 30s on the other hand I have to make a confession about. I always thought he was a complete fish!!

He is I believe a sales manager for one of the big PC companies...Hewletts or Dell I forget which

Each evening come 5-6pm he can be found immaculately attired, pin stripe suit and all, hitting the tables at Luton.

About nine months ago he took to poker, really only as an adjunct to his other gaming activities.

Immediately he started getting results but it seemed to me he was firing it in and benefitting merely from aggression rather than fantastic play (he won't mind me saying this, we've discussed it)

He then went through a fallow patch but has re-merged a far stronger fundamental player.

Albeit still a lucky fish! Joke!

He'll be loving this chance to shut a few of the naysayers up!

Big Hit For the Milkybarkid...

A big preflop pot developed when he raised from the button and Nick Whiten pushed all in on the big blind.  The money in the middle was 47,000, and with Nick's remaining chips equalling 23,500, Ben eventually (reluctantly) called.

Ben showed:  9h Th
Nick showed:  Ac Qd

Flop:  Jd 6c Td
Turn:  9s  (Nick stood up)
River:  Kd  (Nick sat down)

And Ben down to 35,000.

Double Doubleup News Now -

First, John Murphy doubled up with Tc Ts against Robert Garfield's 6d 6c, hitting a house on the flop for good measure.

Then it was JP's turn, which he took rather stylishly on the river...here's what happened:  Ben Vinson flat called (blinds 1k - 2k) so JP made up the small blind and big blind Michael Ellis checked.

Flop:  Ad 9d 4h.   Checked round.
Turn: 5s.  JP checked, Michael bet 3k, called in both spots.
River: 2d.  JP checked, Michael bet 10k, Ben passed and JP moved in!  It was around 15 to call, which Michael did, rewarded with a sneak-tastic 4d 6d.

Down to about 16k, in the SB, he R'd about 8k with  Ac 4d, & got looked up by the BB who had 17k. On a  Js Jc Tc flop, he moved in, but the BB with  Th Td was never gonna pass. A 3rd club on the turn gave our man some hope, but a hopeless 2 of Diamonds rivered.

He looks a lttle glum right now, but he'll be bouncing later - the boy did great, just great, we are SO proud of him. There will be other days for the Beagle.

wasnt his oppo holding a full house on the flop? good go tho snoopy

Sorry Simon - the third flop card was a 9, not a 10.

Misread Heh! :) :)...any blondites left in?

I lose track of who is & is not a blonde these days Simon, but for sure, blonde have Matt Tyler, Ben Grundy, Nick Smithers Whiten, & J P Kelly still in the comp, probably a few more.

Wouldn't be surpised if half the field becomes people with accounts on Blonde by next year.

Michael Ellis finishes in 17th place...

After shaking his head in frustration at JP a couple of hands ago, the rest of Mr. Ellis' chips went to the same magnet - all I saw was JP with  Jc Th raking in a pot while the beaten  Aspades 6c (?) was turned over.

And Luke Patten doubles up Peter Smyth (although there was no way off this hand for either of them):

Luke called Peter's 10k preflop raise, and the rest of Peter's short stack went in on the 4h 7h Qd flop.  Call.

Luke showed:   Ahrt Kh
Peter showed:  Ac Qc

No further heart and Peter hangs on in there.

The curse of the "Good Luck" Bok continues.......

Details on the way from Mrs Merton, but I'm sorry to say, b4matt - Matt Tyler - is OUT.

Double elimination News Now -

Matt Tyler is 16th place finisher; on other table Bhupinder Kohli is 15th place finisher -

Matt ran into the brick wall of Luke Patten, who, in his own words (and those of some others) "Just can't fold."  He set up a nice tasty squeeze play preflop, with 9c 9d, but it was the wrong person to squeeze and Luke's  Ahrt Td hit after he called the all-in.  Hard luck Matt - whoever just wished you luck clearly bokked you.

Brian Sadler is a Luton old timer!

An almost every nighter, sometimes with his two twenty something sons Ryan and Scott, he is the runaway leader of the Luton poker league

A lovely guy and a mean player, I belive he now makes his living, having retired, from sports betting..horses especially

Field starting to thin out now, but there is a Dinner Break end of this Level - maybe 30 minutes from now, so I don't see us reaching the Final until maybe 10pm or 11pm.

But so what, we got all night, & these Luton Main Events always run the full distance.

It would be a real fairytale were John Murphy to reach the final

John own his own carpet fitting company run out of Hitchin. An occasional player live, maybe once or twice a fortnight, this is by far and away his biggest comp having qualified in a satellite

and, before I shut up for a bit, I must say its great to see so many Luton locals in the latter stages....its a great place to play, the standard is tough and its a great grounding for the Uk circuit

JP may be a special case, but we can just about still call him a Luton local too....

Am a very good friend of John Murphy's, we both live in Hitchin - he has made a lot of money from on-line tournaments - but you are right - this is the biggest 'live' event he has ever been in - he is a good solid player who is not afraid to go when necessary - am just about to leave to get to casino to support him

Good luck to your guys too

I am ASHAMED of that Jen.

Three hands into the £100 Freeze, she is in a 3 way Pot with no Pre-Floop action, on a flop of  Aspades Jh 9h

Geezer bets, Jen Raises, third player passes, Geezer dwells, passes, turns over  Ahrt Qc, saying "I'm behind, yes?".

Jen nods, "Oh yes, way behind" she says, quickly mucking her bag of spanners.

And I arrive just in time to see one of those dreaded/wonderful KK v AA confrontations between P Smyth and Nick Whiten. No dramas, & the Aces prevailed, leaving the KK man with a mere 7k.

And the KK man was......

Nick Whiten.

Ah well, such is poker.

Nick is the comeback king.

He's just TREBLED up to 72k.

All-in, the board of 3c 3h Td Jd 6s is checked down by Vinson and Gilig.

Vinson mucked, Gilig showed A-K, and, to the delight of the Yongsta-Nowab cheerleading team, nick slammed down those bullets (pow pow)

Av it!

Ben Grundy has trebled up his shortstack.

The milky one moved all in preflop with 9-9.

He received two callers in Patten and Garfield who checked the K-6-9-5-7 board down.

Patten looked confident with his top pair, but not so when Grundster flipped over his set.

He busts Ben Vinson's A-J with, of course, in true Thewy Style, K-Q.

which means...

Ben Vinson is OUT and is our 8th place finisher winning $5,250

Battle of the blinds with Ben Grundy.

Aces v Tens.

Aces held up.

Short story.

Ben -- 170k

all that from hitting his 2 outer on the river on day 1 to keep him alive, shows the luck involved, but he has taken advantage of it cery well

sloppy is just inputting the 7th place exit, but with 6 left, it's a bit weird to see Nick Whiten, down to a mere 7k half an gour ago, still there, & in with a chance with blinds at a puny 3k-6k.

He Finalled in a Major at The Vic last year, picking up £28k as I recall. Another decent payday in prospect for the Notts-Based, white-hoodie wearer.

Ben Grundy has had, I believe, A-A 7 times in this comp now, & they have help up every time bar one I believe - we can assume the exception would be against Ace-Buster Thewy.

He had big chips very early, dominated for a long time, went through a bit of a tilt-phase, stabilised himself, & then started playing again. And when he keeps his cool, he can't arf play, there's no doubting that.

But unless luck intervenes, I can't see anyone stopping JP.

You got it.

Nick Whiten OUT in 5th place, for £10,500.

And J P Kelly must have, well, about a wheelbarrow full. I will do a chip count on JP shortly.

Poor P Smyth had QQ when Kelly busted him, but Kelly killed Nick Whiten with QQ.....

Here's the standings with 4 left, all approx.......

T Gillig 55k

Luke Patten 120k

Ben Grundy 100k

Which, if correct, (& they ain't far out) means J P Kelly has 820,000.

Stop the Contest, this is cruelty.

Mind you, in Copenhagen last year, Ram Vaswani had a similar domination heads-up over Noah Boaken, but Noah got the win. Could JP lose this from here?

He looks a bit like Monty - hope he come 4th lol

Ben Grundy is OUT and is our 3rd place finisher winning £20,250

Ben moved all in from the button for about 50k.

Both JP and Patten called.

Patten takes the pot wih A-5.

Board = 4-4-5-J-7

Title: Re: Luton Main Event - DAY TWO

Meanehile, back at Luton.......we have DRAMA!

Luke Patten, exactly the WRONG sort of guy to bluff against, has taken a series off Pots against the ever-at-it Kelly, culminating in a full double-up for Patten, when Luke bet, & Kelly called, every srteet, Kelly showing K bit on an A-K-x x-x Board, with Luke holding A-T.

So we have a new - slight - chip daddy, Luke Patten, with around 550k, to J P's 500k, with Ben Grundy forlornly looking at his 43k.

JP Doubles Up!

He raised to 30k, got re-raised by Luke to the tune of a 100k stack, moved in - Call!

JP showed  Qd Qc
Luke showed   Aspades Jd

And the board didn't bring any help - which means that JP takes back the chip lead to the tune of about 640k to 450k.

Some semblance of reality has returned here at Luton, with J P regaining his composure, & taking a 850k - 240k chip advantage.

Title: Re: Luton Main Event - DAY TWO

Just got home from London, Nick is quite happy about his final finish and £10.5k prize pool. Afterwards he maybe throught he should have waited for a better opportunity that A8s but V JP its hard to put him on a hand. I'd never seen JP play before today and he is top notch, makes his own luck and keep the pressure on all the time. Whatever the result he was easily the best player at the final table in my view and I really hope he beats Luke and the best player wins this comp.

Title: Re: Luton Main Event - DAY TWO
Post by: Djinn on April 10, 2006, 12:49:42 AM
Luke Patten doubles up -

With the board: 7c 9c Jc 4h Kh  he moved in and JP called on the river.  But Luke was holding 8h Td and has re-re-taken the lead.  I'm getting confused.

Title: Re: Luton Main Event - DAY TWO
Post by: tikay on April 10, 2006, 12:55:52 AM

Nice Post Rob.

I think Luke must have messed with JP's head - the last two times JP was on the BB he has given Luke a walk.....! It must have been a while since JP passed his SB without making up.......

Luke 750k, JP 340k.

Title: Re: Luton Main Event - DAY TWO
Post by: tikay on April 10, 2006, 12:58:51 AM
This is weird. JP just turned a flush - albeit a small one - and, with Luke behind him, never bet the flop, turn or River. Waiting for Luke to bet, no doubt, but Luke is a caller rather than a bettor. IMO.....

That is odd, JP knows Luke is much more likely to call any of his bets if he (Luke) has anything because of JP's err....'slightly loose' table image.

Post by: tikay on April 10, 2006, 01:04:10 AM

Luke 640k, JP 350k.

JP keeps his stacks neat & tidy, in piles of 20, all nice & symmetrical, whereas Luke has his more Thewy-style, all higgly-piggly, different heights, the denoms all mixed up.

Possibly, but they have BOTH been playing for the same length of time, JP is much younger, &, I'd dare to suggest, fitter, than Luke.

It's so easy to be critical from the Rail though. All very interesting.

Very true, although i saw Phil Ivey piss away a chip lead last year when he was fatigued, and he did not handle it as well as his opponent.

Well you never know, but a great show by both players.

Post by: tikay on April 10, 2006, 01:11:54 AM

On a flop of ....

 Ts 6h 3s

JP moves all-in, & Luke quickly calls.

JP shows  Qh Th

while Luke has the straight draw with  4s 5c

Turn & River blanks see JP up to 800k, & Luke down to 390k.

I must say, they both look fatigued, & barely a word is being spoken between them.

Title: Re: Luton Main Event - DAY TWO
Post by: robyong on April 10, 2006, 01:12:08 AM
Its a problem for an aggressive player when a guy wont pass average hands, it means you have to hit a genuine hand/flop to beat him. Its easy to bluff all your chips off to Luke and i think JP must have slowed down and realised that so is waiting for a hand rather than being tired, this guy will not pass a pair or bad ace.

Ahrt 2d for JP, and he just moved all in.  He was called by  Jc Ad (rather confidently) but...

2c Qc 9d Qs 6h came the deciding board, giving JP the win by the margin of that little deuce.

Snoops mentions, as an aside, that Luke is 34 and JP 20.  Which is pretty irrelevant, but that's about all the detail we have - unless we listen in on the interviews being held by Rhowena (pictured)

Well, that's another Luton Fessie over, & it must be said, what a feast of poker Luton gave us.

Good comps all week, good attendances, excellent, firm control of the players by Simon & Helen, nice buffets, and not a word of complaint about the clocks & structures.

The Main Event was a 1 hour clock, 10,000 chip jobbie, & there were many who said it would never finish in time, but it did, with 4 hours to spare in fact, despite over an hour of heads-up. Carmel & Helen never panicked when we still had 30 odd runners in mid-afternoon, & she got it right.

Poker peeps are quick to knock & criticise when Casinos don't get it spot-on, let's hope they are equally quick to large it up for Luton this week, for me, they never put a foot wrong.

Jen, as ever, did a sparkling job with the Updates - nobody sussed her Dylan Song-Lyric riddled stuff, & our snoops gave us all a nice feeling in our nether regions with his sparkling big-event debut.

Well that's enough waffle from me. My first Update in a good while, & I'm truly knackered.

Thank you for joining us, the blonde Live Update Crew will be back next Saturday, from Dublin, with the Top Team of Jen & snoops back in command.

And yes, we will be a little more sensitive with the blonde spamming.

Night all.

xx

And here's the Victorious JP, not being at ALL patronised by the bluesquare and Grosvenor important people.  I think he looks all serious, like a cross between Michael Parkinson and Phil Ivey.

Awesome event, and thanks to an awesome job with the updates too  :D Thanks and congratulations to Luton too for hosting such a wonderful festival. I'll definitely be back for the next one.

I only wish that Dan Carter and  I (Matt Dale) weren't so tired, and stuck around the next day to watch JP win! Congratulations!! He was definitely the right man to win the event. Good to see he didn't get bokked (is that right?) by the blondepoker forum curse!  :D

JP, are you going to parlay some of the winnings and play the Irish Open?

Hey guys just got in from a very long 2 days and really a long week!! I thought I played well throughout the 2 days riding my luck at times but the pressure I put on from the bubble time onwards was the deciding factor. People did not want to play pots against me and I used this to my advantage.

I did a deal for a number of reasons and was still rather reluctant. Luke was horrible to play as he bet a lot of flops and he wouldn't fold!! I was also quite tired and I'd assesed Luke as a bit of a gambler who would make it difficult for me to run the heads up battle. We left £7,500 and a seat in the £100,000 Blue Sq freeroll + the trophy and jacket to play for so there was still plenty up for grabs!
That has to be 1 of the hardest games I have played heads up and am quite pleased to have remained incredibly patient enough to wait for the right opportunities. I think the old me would have got frustrated and gambled with him but I waited and my chances came.

Am too tired to decide about Dublin now so will have a think.

I appreciate the support from the forum, thanks guys.

Pats on the back all round. ;applause;

five minutes after this there is an early position limper , i am in the cutoff and find K K (the best hand i had all day)..i pick up my chips and count out the amount to raise , whilst i am doing this the button and small blind call....WHOA WHOA i shout..the dealer hadnt noticed that i had cards and a ruling was called for...i was then told my hand was dead..wtf...seems to be systematic of the luck i am having at the moment........

This sux.

Surely I could call quickly from the small blind if I sensed the button was gonna raise?

Down to about 16k, in the SB, he R'd about 8k with  Ac 4d, & got looked up by the BB who had 17k. On a  Js Jc Tc flop, he moved in, but the BB with  Th Td was never gonna pass. A 3rd club on the turn gave our man some hope, but a hopeless 2 of Diamonds rivered.

He looks a lttle glum right now, but he'll be bouncing later - the boy did great, just great, we are SO proud of him. There will be other days for the Beagle.

This was a battle of the blinds hand with the big having about 1k more than me. With the money not going up for another 9 places, there was no point in hanging around so I raised preflop with A-4.

Very suprised to find the big blind call.

Flop came something like J-J-9.

I knew something was up, but I didn't have enough chips to fold to a bet and I couldn't give him a free card if he had nowt, so I shoved it in and prayed.

Hi gang.

Just finished reading through two days of updates. Whew, I'm more shattered by that than I was playing a weekend of poker.

Anyhow, I'd just like to say a big beagle thank you to all of the good luck wishes that were thrown my way. They truely do make a difference and any1 who says that they aren't spurred on by them, even a little bit, is probably telling porkie pies.

It's 7.30 now and I'm yet to go to bed, so I don't have the energy to hit my keyboard anymore...

but thx again  :)up

just read the whole of the second day as i couldnt follow it live yesterday.

first off fantastic updating team and congratulations to all blondes that done so well in the event (especially booders who was rather unlucky to have his KK ruled dead)

congratulations to jp for winning the event

have played many times at luton in comps against young mr kelly and have found him to be a very good aggressive player.

for some reason from a distance i thought him arrogant, how wrong u can be! had a chat with him thursday prior to the £750 and he comes across far from arrogant a throughly nice young chap.

JP im sorry for earlier false anaylisation and once again congratulations on such a great win. :cheers: ;karabiner; ;letsparty;

For someone to have had such good success at such an age it would be easy for them to be arrogant. Sometimes we are all guilty of pre-judging people.

JP however couldnt be further from arrogant, infact he routinely admits that he wishes he was as good as me!

Cheers to anyone who was funking for me.

It was a bizarre tournament. I hit lots of cards but also had some bad beats so was up and down alot.

I really wanted to get Heads Up with JP ... it would have been fun i'm sure!
