Quite incongrous to be sitting in a casino with a wedding on all the plasmas, full volume

Still it gave me a chance to sing along to a hymn or two. This gave me the added bonus of a space either side of me amongst the pen of bloggers

Welcome to Walsall. The GUKPT is back.

Keep it here

Standing behind Ben Jenkins as he plays a hand from the big blind

Nathan Lee limps UTG for 100

Ryan Spittles makes it 550 in mid position

Charles Denton 1,500 in mid position

Folded to Ben who takes a peek at

 Qc Qs

He has a long think, and folds

Lee and Spittles fold, and Ben will never know if his early cautionwas correct…

LOL anyone who knows Charlie well will know Ben was ahead pre but if Charlie's on form Ben would have been behind on the river once the flop of 237 came.

The very next hand there are two limpers and Ben completes with

5♣

5♠

in the small blind

Nathan Lee in the big blind raises to 525

Both limpers calls and Jenkins calls for value

the flop comes a lovely

9♦

5♦

4♠

Jenkins checks

Lee leads for 1100

Seat six makes it 2200

Jenkins flat calls

Lee passes

turn

4♥

Jenkins checks his full house

seat six shoves for 9,000 and is of course called

seat six has

9♣

10♦

A harmless

A♣

river and Jenkins doubles to over 30,000

Mitchell Johnson just lost 1/4 of his starting stack with AK, running into Mike Da Bookie Hill's short stack when he found AA. Mike now doubled up to 5k. Don't know Mitchell's chip count now as blatantly lifting this from another forum to help Tighty out.

Just had a funny moment in the cardroom where Alan McLean Table 5 seat 9 went for a walk and ended up in the seat of Gary Lindsay which was table 7 seat 9.

Gary had gone out to use the phone and while he was gone Alan sat in his seat, started playing with his chips, posted his ante. Then Rana Gurnam told him he was sat in the wrong seat.

To which Alan replied "Oops! It's getting late"

There is a corking table on 1b

Mo Muse, Praz Banzi, Stephen the Mole Boyd and David Johnson

In reasonably amusing scenes as Johnson took his seat the exhortation went over the PA

"Here he is your 2010 GUKPT Leaderboard winner Dave Johnson" (Ryan Spittles perks up in adoration) "lets give him a big round of applause"

A smattering of applause ensues

The TD persists "A BIG round of applause please"

About half the field obliges. One railbird ASKS FOR JOHNSON'S AUTOGRAPH!!

I think we will try this at Luton one night

Here is our hero. And Johnson

Interesting ruling, though I hesitate to post it

Cut off raises, small blind shoves

Cut off is deciding and the dealer mucks the small blinds hand

the small blinds hand is mucked into the mucked cards

the ruling is that the cut off wins the hand, for the matched bet

but the small blind got his extra chips over the matching of the initial raise, back

Title: Re: GUKPT Walsall: Day 1
Post by: Supernova on April 29, 2011, 08:53:02 PM
Scotty has  Aspades  Qs his opponent has  Ks  Js and is short stacked

The flop and the turn are all red A K Q J  and the river is a black 10 so it's a straight for both and a split pot.

Sounds like a decent ruling to me

Except that the dealer should maybe lose one finger.

Player should of protected his cards IMO!!

I erroneously reported Mo Muse out earlier

It must have been another insanely aggressive tall guy from Northampton

In fact he is on 35,000 and just won a big pot calling a raise pre, calling leads on flop and turn of  Jd 8c 8h 4s and raising on a  2s river

His table with Praz, Jonnyplum, the mole and assorted randoms would be worth watching, except its just been broken. Boo

Steve Warburton raises to 2,000

Will Kassoof, who could have needle with any player on any time and with whom Warburton has been arguing for much of the last twenty minutes, shoves for 35,000

With  Th 5s (editors note, no value in poker anymore)

Most of the time they can't call, a wise man once said, however sometimes they might call with  Ks Kd

As Warburton does .

Kings hold and the Warburton chip loaf rises to the heady heights of 70,000 in Level 4

Title: Re: GUKPT Walsall: Day 1
Post by: TightEnd on April 29, 2011, 10:31:36 PM
Si Cawley makes it 600 from first position, Mark James makes the call from the big blind.

The flop comes K--3--5

check, check.

The turn is another King.

Mark checks to Si who bets 600, Mark raises to 2,100, Si moves all in for around 6,000 more and Mark makes the call.....

Si J-J
Mark K-Q

The river is a 2.

Si Cawley heads out!!

Mark James now has 24,000.

folded to the button Dale Harper who flicks  Ac Kc so i can see it

I can see a hero fold coming. Sure enough he folds

Hickman passes

Lacey shows  Ahrt Ad

A comment I can make is that 1b is a few players apart (Muse, Hicks, Banzi, Mole) tight tight tight

three 4 bets and above I have seen have been Aces, haven't seen a single 4 bet and above with anything else

Anway Harper was so proud of his fold he bounded over like a gambolling lamb to me, and insisted I verbally pat him on the back

Praz Bansi, moving table with just 8,325, lost no time moving in under the gun.  UTG+1, Nam To, then moved in for over 40k, effectively isolating the short stack with his Ac-Qh.  He was racing Bansi's 8h-8s, but lost, the board coming down nine high.

One table over, Mo Muse was continuing his raising preflop trend, making it 1,550.  His neighbour Fari Badiemansour moved all in for 6,700 more, and got the call after a bit of a dwell.  Muse was the one with the pair in the race this time (sixes) but Badiemansour's Ad-Jh hit on the turn to bump him back over the starting stack.

Check, Pound bets 2,000.  Ellis raised to 7,500 and then snapped Pound's all in

Ellis: 9h-8h for the flush draw with gutshot

Pound 10c-10s for toip set

The heart fell on the turn - Kh - and the river 8s didn't save Pound

Mole Boyd up over 50,000

Boyd led 4,000 on a 5h-Kh-4h flop, then instacalled the button's 16k push, saying, sheepishly "I've got the nuts here, like..."

His opponent showed 8h-9h,

Mullered by Boyd's Ah-3h.

As he scooped in the pot Steven Warburton called "Blessed!" and dissolved into Kindergarten giggles

"Steven - I had the nuts on the flop," Boyd remonstrated in mock high dugdeon.

Praz Banzi 3 bet shoves K-J trying to get raiser Ben Carpenter off his hand

No joy, as Carpenter calls all in for a similar 25,000 stack with Ace King

For Carpenter, it was not the top of the world, but yesterday once more as a Jack fell on the flop and knocked him out

Banzi now dangerous with 50,000 above average

Play is concluding for today last 5 hands

Thank heavens for that

31 left, 35 from earlier so, 66 or so co ming back for 2pm tomorrow

I am so tired that if Kate Middleton's sister wandered into the Holiday Inn Express reception at 4am and offered herself to me for the evening I would politely decline and prefer sleep.

However, its no sleep til chipcounts, its the Tighty and blonde way

So, I am about to go into battle with recalcitrant GUKPT organisers to get those counts to you asap

Shaping up to be a decent day tomorrow

Dan Morgan has offered to help out with updating tomorrow. Little does he know that "offering to help out" commits him to 16 hours at my beck and call.
